Are the Road Warriors the greatest tag team of all time?
Watched the Road Warriors DVD.(amazing if you haven't seen it), so this inspired this thread.
Are the Road Warriors the greatest tag team ever, and if not, who is? I believe they are. Definitely paved the way for teams like the APA, Demoliton, and the 3MB. NWA,AWA,WWF tag team champs (only team to do that). Crockett Cup Winner. 4 time PWI winner for best tag team. |
New Age Outlaws.
LOD
Most successful probably. Was never a fan but I won't argue that.
Bushwhackers
...
In the '80s, they were a draw on par with Hogan and spawned a bunch of imitators (most notably, Demolition).
If you go by numbers, it would be the Dudley's, but revolutionizing the Tag Scene, would've had to be the Road Warriors. And I'm talking NWA days, not the watered down WWF stuff.
Road Warriors are top of the list with the Dudleys, and it may be awkward but I might include the Outsiders for historical significance.
New Age Outlaws
Edge and Christian
Road Warriors and the New Age Outlaws both have a claim for it. They barely clashed in 97/98, but outside of that, they come from completely different eras. Overall, I would say Road Warriors are greater simply for the legacy they left. Not sure who was the most over though.
I'll be cliche and vote for the Hardyz since that was what I watched and was one of the main draws to WWF/WWE.
Road Warriors were amazing, made ricockulous amounts of money and were a huge draw everywhere.
Iggy is a smart smart man.
I'd say yes considering they were pretty successful in every promotion they wrestled for.
Some of the tag teams from the Attitude Era of WWF and ECW were just as good name-wise but were missing either the longevity or had their accomplishments mainly occur at one place. The Dudleys might be the closest to matching the Road Warriors though. |
I won't argue it...
Demolition is my favourite and I think quite underrated. |
I'd put them near the top of my list
The Andersons The Road Warriors The Midnight Express The British Bulldogs The Wild Samoans The Steiner Brothers The Crusher and Dick The Bruiser The Hart Foundation Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens |
I can't believe the New Age Outlaws have been mentioned as many times as they have in this thread. Yuck.
Totally overlooked the Steiners.
Based on the fact that the Road Warriors were over as fuck and successful in NWA, AWA, NWA, WWF, and Japan makes it hard to top. The Dudleys are extremely overrated.

The Road Warriors revolutionized the business with their 'no selling' opponents moves. They were dicks and didn't care what anyone thought about them, in the ring or outside of it. I do have to say that when they went to the WWF, they went to hell. Vince ruins everything he touches. |
Maybe they were the most decorated but I wouldn't say they were the best was more of a Demolition guy but they're definitely in my top 10 though.
Gertner with all do respect can you please tell me why on earth would you put 3MB in the same category as L.O.D and demolition and A.P.A. Those are all great teams but really 3MB wouldn't even be able to lace up L.O.D.'s boots
I don't see how you even put the APA in the same breath as the Road Warriors.
The Dudleyz were the 3rd wheel in the Edge & Christian/Hardyz feud. They added power moves and table spots, but there is very little about the Dudleyz I remember other than getting cheap heat in ECW and the matches with E&C/Hardyz. I don't think calling fans cunts and mother fuckers to start riots makes you a good heel.

No love for the R&R Express?
No list of tag teams is complete without:
The British Bulldog and Owen Hart. I have to agree that the LOD is the best ever except when they went heel in the later part of the NWA. It was pretty fucking stupid because they already acted like heels. |
A team that was broken up too soon, IMO, was Doom.

I'm talking about ability and overness. The Road Warriors didn't invent "stiff dickheads who got over by refusing to sell".
Name a team who came before them who were as physically dominant as the Road Warriors, who wrestled like they couldn't be stopped?
I think the Road Warriors are easily the greatest tag team of all time, due in a large part down to how long they were active for and how many other good tag teams that were around in that era.
The Steiners would be second |

Of course, if they were competing at the same time as LOD in the 80's and early 90's, then it probably would be nowhere close. But from a pure historical point of view, the Outlaws happened to be one the hottest acts during one of the hottest periods of wrestling. |
Can't believe no one has mentioned The World's Greatest Tag Team yet. Clearly, that is the greatest tag team of all time.
