Vignettes
I was thinking now that the Wyatt Family have debuted and how good all of the little promos for them were, when was the last time WWE debuted somebody this way and this well?
|
Damian Sandow. Loved the vignettes. Not as great as Wyatt, but still pretty solid. It definitely got my attention.
|
Del Rio's vignettes were pretty well done too.
|
Fandango
Sin Cara my favorite has to be the tease for Taz coming to the WWE |
Jericho's return vignettes 2 years ago or so when people tossed around names like Undertaker, Sting and even Ultimate Warrior were fine. Vignettes seem like they only exist for high priority talents, which isn't a bad thing but just an observation.

Lol like Kizarny

Hmm, WCW should have gotten this guy to do the "Berlyn" gimmick instead of Ol' Das Wunderkind.... |

Always loved the ridiculous Carlito vignettes.

I remember pretty vigorously ignoring the Alberto Del Rio vignettes. It was only after he debuted and was around for a few weeks that I was like "Wait a second, this guy is actually pretty decent"
|
I thought his vignette promos were a thousand times more interesting than anything he's said since showing up.
|
In today's wrestling world, I think that an unheralded approach like the Shield and Curtis Axel had are better than vignettes.
|
Kharma's were pretty sick
|
I miss that Carlito. oh the old days
|
Remberzi ze vizigente fozi Kizarny?

It got me thinking about RVD's return, would it have been better if he was a surprise or how they have done it by advertising him before hand. |
If it was just a random 1 on 1 match with Christian or something, than either a surprise or return on RAW would have been great. With it being MITB, the ppv being in Philly, and the need to sell the idea that this is the most star-studded and talent-filled ladder match of all time, it makes sense to hype the shit out of his return at MITB. Due to all the vignettes, there is a lot of hype/buzz/excitement about his return and all the kids now know who he is and why he is a big deal. There is a large chunk of the WWE audience who has never seen anything like what RVD can do.

I don't mind vignettes in principle, but I feel like there are better roads to go a lot of times. The mystery "who is it" vignettes are good. Kharma's were pretty good, as has been said. The Fandango bits, as silly as the character is, were pretty cool. I may be soured at this point because we've spent a lot of time watching the Wyatt Family spots, when I still can't figure out why they're supposed to be so brilliant or why I'm supposed to think that hillbilly gimmick V 935.1 is going to be so interesting. |
