Favorite Summerslam Match
 

With the word going around that the HHH-Steph rebranding is going to be extra heavy on Summerslam from here on out, making it a 2nd Wrestlemania almost, I was curious to see if you guys wanted to look to the past and tell if you have a favorite match from Summerslam history. Perhaps not the best or the most important, but a match that stood out for you and that you enjoyed.

Personally, I love the Owen Hart/Ken Shamrock Lions Den Match from '98. Not only is it an excellent match, but far ahead of its time with the UFC theme. When I was younger it was different + stood out' but not only for the novelty. It truly is a tremendous bout.

Anyway, feel free to throw out your thoughts.

Shawn v. Hunter, Summerslam 2002.

Really wish they brought the Lions Den back.

Big Bossman vs The Mountie in a Jailhouse match (91) - was a Bossman mark and this was the 1st PPV I ever saw.

All of 94 - I was there. 1st ever event at the new United Center. First time I contemplated rooting for heels. A Bret/Owen cage match. Undertaker return. Sweet.

CM Punk vs. John Cena, WWE Title vs. WWE Title from 2011

It doesn't get much better than HBK vs HHH at SummerSlam 2002.

Mr. Perfect vs Bret Hart 1991

Bret Hart vs. Patriot at SummerSlam '97 because I thought Patriot would win it for the USA, but with that being the Attitude Era, bad guy Bret won cleanly to show that might is right.

Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog at SS92 was the best SummerSlam match ever, maybe even the best overall match in WWE history. No other SummerSlam match comes close.

Some of my other faves were:

Stone Cold vs. Kurt Angle from SS2001

On a side note, my favorite entrance in SummerSlam history would have to be from 1992 when Undertaker came out standing on the back of that hearse. Night time in an outdoor stadium, just awesome.

It was Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect for me until 2002.

HBK vs HHH, with the build in mind, is one of the best matches I've ever seen.

Bret/Bulldog at SS '92 with HHH/HBK just behind it. That whole 2002 show was crazy.

Tough one. The TLC 1 at SummerSlam 2000 is definitely up there, as is Lesnar vs Rock and Triple H vs HBK.

I think I'd have to say Benoit vs Orton at 2004 though - I loved that match and thought it was the right way to take the World Title off of Benoit. I remember watching that match over and over again and thinking that this was Randy's first step toward becoming a bonafide main eventer.

Ziggler vs. Mysterio from 2008 I believe is a great opener that doesn't get talked about much.

Brock Lesnar versus Kurt Angle in their Wrestlemania XIX rematch for the WWE Championship.

Orton v. Undertaker, SummerSlam 2005.

Have to go with HHH VS. HBK because Bret/Perfect had this fucking guy in it.

I remember watching Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio, the opener from 2002 and just being amazed. Great little encounter and Rey's first WWE PPV (and the first I'd ever really seen from him in a prolonged setting like that). 2002 in general was a great PPV.

Another great Mysterio Summerslam opener was vs. Kurt Angle at 2002. Mysterio kicks off Summerslam like a boss.
