Bret Hart throws dirt on the name of one of the great wrestling legends ever; praises himself

"The fans here [in Miami] were really educated about wrestling. They appreciated a good wrestler, you could tell they knew a lot about wrestling. If you watch the wrestlers today, you can tell they weren't watching Hulk Hogan. They were watching Bret Hart."
-Bret Hart

Disgusting.

Nark Order 08-25-2013 11:11 PM

Hogan has thrown far more dirt on his own name than anybody else possibly ever could. I wouldn't worry too much.

ChrisHarvard01 08-25-2013 11:11 PM

Anybody Thrilla, clean that title up for me pal. Just delete "one of" ;)

ron the dial 08-25-2013 11:13 PM

Of course, the Hulkster is an innovator.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-25-2013 11:23 PM

There's alot more Bret Hart's in the business than there are of Hulk Hogan's my dude. He's right. Bret might be rude sometimes, but this is one instance when he's telling the truth plain and simple.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-25-2013 11:27 PM

I guess you never heard of a little show called Championship Wrestling From Florida? Not only is Bret praising the fans he's praising one of the greatest announcers of all time Gordon Solie. The true professor of professional wrestling.

I think Hogan can deal with a little bit of valid criticism that he wasn't a great wrestler.

ChrisHarvard01 08-25-2013 11:29 PM

There is no need for that. Hart likes to take shots at Flair and Hogan every chance he gets cause he hates the fact that they drew, and continue to draw more money than he ever could.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-25-2013 11:59 PM

Yeah because Hogan was an asshole and left the WWF instead of passing the torch to him like a man. Flair and Hart always trade jabs about being repetitive wrestlers.

Tazz Dan 08-26-2013 12:50 AM

Didn't he also talk about himself and HBK before that statement, and mention that it was wrestlers like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk who were smaller guys coming through that didn't watch Hogan, they watched Bret Hart. Way to paraphrase what he actually said mate.

road doggy dogg 08-26-2013 12:50 AM

Sounds like a total non-story to me.

Its not a shot, if you've seen one Flair match you've seen them all wooooooooooooooo

Fignuts 08-26-2013 12:53 AM

Guys from the 80's are always taking shots at each other. Flair, Hogan, Bret, they all talk trash. Politics were a lot more ruthless back then and they never broke the habit.

whiteyford 08-26-2013 12:55 AM

Maybe he just went to the Arn Anderson school of kayfabe?

whiteyford 08-26-2013 12:56 AM

Wish that was a real place.

Hogan came back in early-1993 to do the match with Beefcake/Money Inc, but then won the title by the end of WM 9. From WM to KOTR 1993, Hogan was basically off TV. The Hulkster's match with Yokozuna was the selling point to KOTR '93. Hulk and Vince were having arguments about his contract, so Hogan agreed to drop the belt to Yokozuna and left your WWF.

In his bitter hatred and jealousy, Bret began telling people Hulk Hogan was set to drop the belt to him at Summerslam '93 before he left the WWF (Bret lost to Yokozuna instead).

Luger got the big babyface push and Bret spent the rest of the year feuding with an announcer.

Bret has always been a jealous mudslinger.

Bret Hart is a wrestling GOD.

He can talk trash all he wants, fact is, he is arguably one of the best superstars of all-time.

That "announcer" is JERRY THE KING LAWLER and YOU are accusing somebody else of being disrespectful? That's pretty rich dude. Why don't you just go away already whoever you are sock/troll?

Yes, I called Jerry Lawler an announcer. My bad. :o

seapig4 08-26-2013 10:06 AM

This is getting pretty retarded.
I think that in this case bret is completely right, the business has changed so that you have to be able to work a competent match instead of just being a big guy with muscles.

XL 08-26-2013 10:36 AM

Unless you're John Cena.

Gerard 08-26-2013 11:29 AM

Neidharts the story of that interview, he HAS to be on something

Disgusting.

What's disgusting about that? It's the truth. Hogan was an attraction, he was NEVER a good wrestler. Even Gorilla Monsoon was quoted as saying about Hogan "wrestling wise, I'm not sure if he knows the difference between a wristlock and a wrist watch." It's true.

Bret was referring to the technical wrestling and storytelling side of it which if you were comparing The two, Hogan wouldn't be in the same galaxy as Bret. Hogan is a 100 times better of a storyteller than he is a wrestler.

As big of a star as Hogan was, we could sit here and name off a very short list of matches that he was in where you could say it was a good, exciting match. Then immediately after, I could name at least triple the amount of great matches that Bret had more than Hogan did.

He's drunk?

What's the big deal? That's the problem with wrestlers of the past, and the fans now. Oh it's gotta be drugs, it has to be.

Give me a break!

Watch some old Memphis vids. Jerry is a WRESTLER.

Kinda funny really, Hogan can talk all the shit he wants, make up whatever bullshit facts he wants and that ok just part of the "business". Talk smack about Hogan and out come the marks and the lawyers.
Always found it funny that Hart played the whiny bitch heel so well it stuck with him practically until this day.

Totally. The I Quit match against Funk is the EXACT SAME MATCH as Steamboat in Chicago

whiteyford 08-26-2013 12:36 PM

He goes through the same routine in every match, the flop and the top rope spot he's hit once/twice in 30 years.

Shadrick 08-26-2013 12:36 PM

omg macho man has to be dizzy

MoFo 08-26-2013 03:38 PM

Bret is a cunt.

God bless Godberg for kicking him in his dum face.

I was not trying to imply Lawler doesn't belong in the ring nor to smear his reputation. At this particular time in '93 Bret is complaining that not Hogan, not Lex, but Bret is supposed to be the big face and the WWF was going to put the strap on him. When all was said and done after SS he feuded with an announcer. Yes, the King is a wrestling legend and it was a good storyline. But the only person to claim Bret was supposed to beat Hogan at SS '93 for the title, was Bret. Bitter Bret.
