FOX orders Commissioner Gordon based series 'Gotham'
Thoughts?
I think the series could be extremely well-written but I'm curious to see how they market it. http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/comm...-series-drama/ |
Gotham Central was a pretty sweet comic book, but I always thought it missed out by not having Jim Gordon in it.
Hopefully this series can be like Gotham Central, but with Jim Gordon as part of the cast. |
Since it is on FOX, though, it will most likely be canceled after one season max.
|
Wait... Fox is doing a Gotham show? Not CW? This isn't strange to you guys?

I'll give this a wide berth I think. Completely sick of Batman related stuff now.

Could be good- Jim Gordon is probably my favorite Gotham character apart from nightwing. But it looks like dc is reverting back to two things I've really started to hate about them: overly relying on batman and following Marvel's lead. You know they wouldn't have given a show a chance if Marvel wasn't already rolling out Agents of SHIELD.
|
This would be the same Fox that cancels shows they don't approve of, even if the ratings hold up. I much rather CW do this as a spinoff of Arrow.

Also, they will most likely debut it against the most popular show on network TV, whatever that happens to be at the time. |
Sounds cool! They should have scenes with Sarah Essen-Gordon nagging good ol' Jim. You know, for the comedy factor! :)
|
I am suspecting it will not have Batman or super villains and will just be "Cop Drama #43542"
|
WB Television has shows on nearly every network, so the fact that it's on FOX isn't completely surprising. The show will probably be pretty dark and less of a teen drama than Arrow, so I think FOX is a good fit. They could still do it in the same universe if they wanted as well, not that it matters.
|
That 'teen drama', Arrow? Is awesome. Yes CW has a hard on for pretty young people with deep seated issues but when they hit their mark they hit their mark.

Which is a shame. Part of why the comic book Gotham Central was so cool was that Batman was "present" but not really a part of the series. All from the cops point of view, so Batman would just occasionally show up for a panel or two and do amazing things, and be resented for it by some of the cops. Would be a pretty interesting thing if they did the TV series with Batman "present" but never actually showed him on camera, or just the occasional shot of his cape flapping away from the scene. |

no batman in this, by all accounts. all about the cops. pretty sure it's pre-batman, even. not even like "this is gotham in concurrence with batman, who is elsewhere"; it's gotham before bruce ever donned a cowl.
my main problem is less that it's specifically a batman-related title and more that everything dc is doing at the moment just seems reactionary to things marvel has already done. like, they don't seem remotely innovative; they seem like they're constantly playing catch-up. that said, i really like arrow so far, and it does have the potential to get even better in season two. i'm actually more excited about s2 of arrow than i am about watching agents of s.h.i.e.l.d.. don't know if i'm deluding myself, though saw some pretty sweet concept art for arrow's flash, too |
