WWE don't believe Ziggler will ever draw money

Regarding the plight of Dolph Ziggler, word is that officials don't believe he will ever be a guy who draws money.

I can't understand how they could say Dolph Ziggler won't draw money and have Alberto Del Rio as the World Champion at the same time.

You really dont get that?

Rammsteinmad 09-27-2013 07:36 AM

Del Rio appeals to Mexican fans, or something.

Bad News Gertner 09-27-2013 07:37 AM

I believe Gertner said this a loooooong time ago and got yelled at.

It was like folks were asleep during the whole Del Rio-Big Show feud in the beginning of the year.

It's not exactly his fault, though. It's not like he had a MAJOR CONCUSSION during his Big Gold Belt run.

Lock Jaw 09-27-2013 08:19 AM

Probably right. Dolph Ziggler is a steady hand and a great bonus to have in a match, but I couldn't imagine anyone buying a PPV just because of Ziggler.

I can at least maybe see some Mexicans buying because of Del Rio.

Watched the Royal Rumble at a friends house. He asked me why Del Rio was a face at the time. My explanation was this:

"Because they need someone who can draw the Latin American audience. Rey is often injured, Eddie is dead, and Sin Cara sucks, so by default he has to be the top draw."

Sepholio 09-27-2013 10:46 AM

Lot of Dolph chants every single time he is out there, though. He gets bigger pops than some of the top drawing talent does and he has been getting those kinda pops for awhile. I call bullshit on this one. He pissed off the wrong people backstage somehow and he is being buried as such.

The Rogerer 09-27-2013 10:50 AM

Alberto Del Rio is solid and better than he gets credit for. Ziggler is flashy but I haven't seen real substance. He's lost without his crew. ADR is better than Ziggler, easy.

The Condor 09-27-2013 11:35 AM

I understand the business model with Del Rio, but I feel weird when people say that Latin Americans need him. Are they lemmings that see a Hispanic and jump to buy his merchandise/PPV's just due to his ethnicity? I know all advertisers do it in all realms of society but it is talked about so openly in WWE that it just seems off.

#1-norm-fan 09-27-2013 11:48 AM

I can't imagine Ziggler as a TOP draw. He's worth much more than how they've used him since his face turn though.

Yeah, am I supposed to relate to Seamus? Maybe if I was an <strike>patriot</strike> idiot, or maybe they need to make it more obvious and give him more potato based moves. Wade Barrett is doing the same stupid thing now, oh he's not british enough let's put "God save our Queen" on his entrance music - great, now I can relate!

I can appreciate having someone of that demographic, speaking their language, etc, but it's the generic nationalism of gimmicks I don't like.

#1-norm-fan 09-27-2013 12:02 PM

Don't forget Khali.

Cuse8 09-27-2013 12:13 PM

there will be a ziggler dvd someday and this whole ordeal will be a chapter on that.

fwiw ziggler is the goods and is faaaar more entertaining then 95% of the current roster.

Chavo Classic 09-27-2013 01:34 PM

Ziggler isn't a top star but his presence on the card makes the show better. I wouldn't order a PPV on the basis on that he's simply in the main event, but if I see that he's in the middle facing someone like Miz, Ambrose, Kingston or Cesaro then it would turn 'I might purchase this event' into a 'I can't wait to watch this'.
He fills his niche well in providing solid entertainment while the big draws put butts in seats, just like the cruiserweights did back in WCW.

Maybe if he really improved a lot on the mic considering that has been the big trait for almost all of the top drawing stars since the Hogan years.

As much as people wanted Ziggler to move away from having Vickie or AJ as his manager/valet, both helped him a lot when it came to promos and non-match crowd reactions.

#1-norm-fan 09-27-2013 02:56 PM

He was fine on the mic when he actually got to cut a promo as a heel. He came off as comfortable and incredibly cocky/douchey. I can't remember him cutting a promo since he turned face though.

Curd 09-27-2013 03:07 PM

How do you think Vince would respond if Ziggler said during radio interviews, "Vince is absolutely right about my drawing power, and I'm thrilled to be where I am in the company." ???

#1-norm-fan 09-27-2013 03:08 PM

Of course, it doesn't help that they put the guy over John Cena in the main event of a PPV and then immediately forgot about him for over three months. If you're gonna push a guy like that you should probably use some of those 6+ hours of TV a week that are filled with mostly meaningless matches and actually write a storyline for him or something.

At the first live event I went to, there was a heavily Hispanic crowd. After Mysterio's match, at least a quarter of the audience left. They saw what they went there to see and didn't feel the need to stay.

So yes.

He cut at least one good to great promo on AJ & Big E. There was a Smackdown angle where she stole his luggage and was trashing his shit and he was killing it with his one liners.

I'll sume it up in three quick points:

1. Del Rio gets a reaction and draw from the audience as a heel
2. Del Rio is a minority, which draws minority viewers and equivalates to increase in revenue
3. He has look, personality, charisma, good on the mic, and i'd say 8.5/10 workrate

To sum it up, he has that "it" factor that Vinny Mac looks for in wrestlers

Optimus Bone 69 09-27-2013 08:17 PM

I like ziggler, he has always reminded me of Mr Perfect but i'd imagine that no matter what he'll never have that main event feel
you feel me dog

That seems more like a multiple choice question. The answer is 2 btw.

It worked with the British Bulldog....and Roddy Piper...

I don't think it works the same way here though, I mean McIntyre gets a huge pop here but I can't see anyone buying tickets to a house show solely for him, same way Regal gets one of the biggest pops of the night when Raws taped in London, it's just the home 'town' roar. Khali supposedly is a huge draw in India but then he's the only Indian guy on the roster, maybe ADR has something like that in his favour too?

XL 09-28-2013 05:46 AM

At what point will the population of India realise that Khali very rarely features on the shows and start to tune out?

whiteyford 09-28-2013 06:27 AM

He doesn't have long left regardless I don't think.

Vastardikai 09-28-2013 09:39 AM

I used to hate Khali, as he's the worst wrestler of all time.

Now I just feel sorry for him. It has to suck to be that big.

Bad News Gertner 09-28-2013 03:20 PM

Jinder Mahal is Indian. India is probably full of 3MB fans.

RIP Great Khali.

whiteyford 09-28-2013 04:47 PM

That's how rumours start.

mike adamle 09-28-2013 05:28 PM

After the reaction he got the night after WrestleMania, I think Dolph can draw money.

Bad News Gertner 09-28-2013 06:26 PM

That crowd counts for zero

#1-norm-fan 09-28-2013 06:34 PM

Crowds were going nuts for Santino when he won that battle royal and almost won the World Title. Santino is awesome... but he's not really a potential main event star.

Pops don't automatically translate into money.

James Steele 09-28-2013 06:44 PM

How many chants and stuff do TNA crowds spew out of their mouths like liquidy shits out of a Taco Bell customer? How much of that results in money for TNA?

Regal actually is someone I'd pay to see in the main event.

#1-norm-fan 09-29-2013 01:52 AM

Well, William Regal is just awesome in every way.

#1-norm-fan 09-29-2013 01:53 AM

Seriously, if WWE ever wanted to do some sort of a long-term "old guy who never made it going for one last crack at winning the big one" angle, I'd pick Regal as the guy to do it. He's just so fucking likable.
