Is that just US or does it include international too (sorry if that's a stupid question).

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2013 11:51 AM

heard it was just north american numbers because there would be alot more for the silva weidman card in july

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2013 11:52 AM

i never saw a source but it seemed like an accurate list from what ive seen over the year

Impeccable 12-28-2013 02:48 PM

Here's a question then.

Are there more PPV events per year now (boxing, MMA and wrestling all included, plus any musical events, etc.) than there used to be? Could it also be explained that poor PPV buy rates are down to competition (not necessarily direct, but where people have JUST $40 to spend, are they choosing the MMA or boxing over the wrestling in a given month?)

Never really got into the science, etc. behind buy rates and tv ratings.

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2013 03:00 PM

boxing always dominates

UFC numbers are arounf the usual but they are also putting on like 20 free cards a year with a handful of those being on FOX. those shows do amazing.

Down numbers for WWE may have to do with more people getting into MMA but it is most likely just poor booking on their parts.

Personally, all I can say is, I only missed like 4 total UFC cards this past year but only watched WM and a handful of RAW's.

:-\

I'm surprised to see that SummerSlam was the WWE's third most successful PPV. Here I was thinking that it was meant to have done pretty poorly.

XL 12-30-2013 11:46 AM

Think it did compared to past years.

I think illegal streams have had a massive impact on PPV buyrates. It'd be really interesting to see numbers of people who watched illegally.

It's hard to get streamed numbers, I'll see if there's any torrented show numbers.

This is exactly why this online WWE network has such an opportunity. Netflix is booming, if it gives away all the PPVs bar the big ones (or maybe just Wrestlemania) on the network, then they could get more "buys" even if it is at a lower price. Then a discount on the ones not part of the network.

Be really interesting

Kris P Lettus 12-30-2013 12:14 PM

Does WWE offer their PPV's online?

Kris P Lettus 12-30-2013 12:18 PM

Also, Im curious to see the buyrate for UFC 168 bc I know their was alot of new traffic and posters in the MMA forum. Prolly close to 750,000.

Yeah, on wwe.com. Same price as the US PPV networks I believe though.

Did it for whichever Wrestlemania had Miz/Cena.

It could certainly be a game changer and a really smart business move.

WWE don't make a penny out of me. I stream PPVs either on the night or the morning after, same with Raw, SmackDown, NXT, etc. but I'd happily pay £10 a month for all the weekly content and back catalogue.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-30-2013 05:19 PM

Largest PPV Buys of 2013 list eh?

1,150,000 - 12/8/12 Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao
75,000 - 12/16/12 WWE TLC John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler ladder match
425,000 - 12/29/12 UFC 155 Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Has 2012's event in it.

Edit accordingly.

Cool King 12-30-2013 05:30 PM

I think this list is for the past year, not specifically 2013 and just 2013. So from December 2012 to November 2013, as I don't think the PPV buys for December don't really come out in time for a list of the whole year to be compiled in time for the end of the year.

I think the name of the thread being "top ppv buys for 2013" is just to generalise it, as the majority of the PPV's occurred in 2013.

As would I.

Check out UFC's new site UFC Fight Pass.

It's a pay site ($10 a month) which will have alot of the old UFC, Pride, and Strikeforce library, old seasons of TUF, backstage shit like press conferences, UFC Tonight eps, Countdown shows, etc etc etc.

They already have two cards planned that will only air on that site exclusively. The first airing on January 4th.

Would WWE fans be interested in a site like this?

James Steele 12-30-2013 08:28 PM

That is basically what "WWE Network" will be based on the rumors/dirtsheets.

Kris P Lettus 12-30-2013 09:45 PM

It's kinda funny to me that it's not done because they were talking about it when I was working for WWE NOLA in 2009.

I assumed it was a real thing.

slik 12-31-2013 01:27 AM

It does not surprise me to see the WWE list go:

WrestleMania - Royal Rumble - SummerSlam

Everything else seems flexible each year but these three seem like 'The Big 3' (Survivor Series hasn't felt like a big ppv in years).

They were trying to get it on an actual cable network first before resorting to online only. They've got Legends House taped, which is a reality show with a bunch of legends living in a house.

James Steele 12-31-2013 05:38 AM

What will be interesting is "Legends' House" was filmed like 3-4 years ago. I'd imagine they had them force pop culture references into the show. Have any of the cast members died since then?

They're saying they didn't start filming until Febuary last year, so it's not that old. Still out of date if they start making references to shit though.

Luckily, everyone is alive. Confirmed Legends appearing on this show are Gene Okerlund, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Howard Finkel, Jimmy Hart, Roddy Piper, Pat Patterson and Tony Atlas.

James Steele 12-31-2013 08:15 AM

Wasn't Iron Shiek supposed to be on the show too? I hope so, but I imagine they'd have to edit 98% of his footage.

MoFo 12-31-2013 09:24 AM

lol Orton and Bryan bombed

Kris P Lettus 12-31-2013 09:14 PM

OMG

I have to see Legend House

scatterbrain28 01-01-2014 10:35 AM

They could at least put past matches on iTunes. I'm surprised they didn't jump on that ship already.
