Is it a classic?? Ghostbusters

I was thinking about movies that seem to get universal praise, but seem to remain absent from various top ten lists. Certain movies we've seen a thousand times, but still stop to watch when its on tv. Does this make it a "Classic?" Is it overrated? Underrated? What defines a Classic?

If this produces a spirited discussion, Ill put more movies up to talk about. For the inaugural edition, lets start with one we have all probably seen.

Ghostbusters: Classic movie? Let the debate begin.

Yes.

Debate over.

screech 01-21-2014 11:38 PM

I like the idea.

And Ghostbusters is totally a classic.

Krimzon7 01-22-2014 12:18 AM

Great thread, good 'softball' example. Everyone loves Ghostbusters. It is a classic

Blonde Moment 01-22-2014 01:21 AM

Classic. Although the fact that sequel was crap does harm the original some

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-22-2014 01:32 AM

GhostBusters 2 was still funny it just wasn't a classic.

slik 01-22-2014 01:33 AM

Classic.

What made the first a "classic" but not the 2nd one?

JimmyMess 01-22-2014 02:07 PM

The two poll options should be "Yes" and "Yes"

Its my most favourite movie of forever time!!!!

Droford 01-22-2014 03:05 PM

I don't really consider it "classic" so I'm stuck out on the ledge by myself with the no vote.

Ghostbusters 2 was tamed down to almost a G-level because of the success of the toys selling plus The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series. That is why it failed to classic status.

I've written papers on how Ghostbusters 2 is similar to what happened in WWE when they changed to PG.

You should be deported.

Impeccable 01-23-2014 07:32 AM

It's my favourite movie of all time, so a little biased on the "classic" tag.

Shisen Kopf 01-23-2014 08:16 AM

I just watched this the other night for the first time in years and yeah, it's a classic for sure. Ghostbusters wooooooo!

How so?

Bad News Gertner 01-23-2014 12:01 PM

Can't wait for Jeritron's take on this. It's his fav movie.

screech 01-23-2014 12:04 PM

Ghostbusters is one of those movies everyone can enjoy. When it's on TV, you watch it always. (Shisen has taped it at least 7 times). You can reference it in daily conversation. It doesn't get dull or boring, no matter how many times you see it. It's a movie you can pull off the shelf any day and watch it. Plus it has a great theme song.

I'll probably give this random collection of thoughts for a lot of "classics," but it fits I think.

Also,

Lock Jaw almost had to resort to this the other day.

Lock Jaw 01-23-2014 08:50 PM

Stop mentioning me in all your posts. Name dropping will not improve your posting ability.

Frank Drebin 01-23-2014 08:51 PM

Lock Jaw should be in Ghostbusters 3

Lock Jaw 01-23-2014 08:52 PM

That would improve the quality of Ghostbusters 3.

Boondock Saint 01-23-2014 09:10 PM

It was from a popular culture journalism class. Had to wait a few semesters to get into because there was like only 8 spots per semester.

Got an A for the class.

Bobholly138 02-18-2014 10:40 AM

It is a decent film. But the cartoon was better.

Malfeitor 02-22-2014 03:31 PM
