Without looking over that list and going from memory, I'm going to say

Bret v. Owen @ 10
Savage v. Flair @ 8
Hogan v. Warrior @ 6

Worst: Giant Gonzalez v. Undertaker @ 9

Gonna look back for some honorable mentions now.

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 12:24 PM

Ohhhh, that blindfold match from 7 was pretty much ass. I liked the build up to it, though. Made enough sense. Just impossible for that actual match to be any fun.

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 12:25 PM

....yeah, outside of that, the only honorable mention I'm seeing for the best is the ladder match at 10.

CSL 02-13-2014 12:26 PM

Hogan/Warrior
Bret/Piper
HBK/Razor

worst - Alundra Blaze/Lelani Kai

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 12:27 PM

1.Hogan/warrior
2.Savage/flair
3'Shawn/razor

Worst yea taker/gonzalez

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 12:29 PM

How bad was earthquake and Adam bomb. Can't even recall that match

Shisen Kopf 02-13-2014 12:33 PM

Best match was the Kamala match at WM10 that didn't take place. Kamala sucked so that match not happening was the best match. Next up: Tatanka

I hated Bret/Piper as a kid because I was a huge Hitman mark.

Rewatching it later, that was a great fucking match. Love the sleeper hold kick back reversal pin spot.

Tatanka's match with Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 9 was just "OK".

Interesting note: Luna Vachon was HBK's valet for that match.

Shisen Kopf 02-13-2014 12:52 PM

Always thought Kamala really sucked.

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 12:52 PM

even more interesting is in the history of mania dvd backstage vince is showing shawn how to dance before walking out to face him

yeah, it was great. I remember first seeing it around 8 and realizing there was something different about the match, it seemed more real/less "cartoony" than everything I was used to at that point i.e Hogan and Warrior. Round about that point (this and the HBK/Bulldog stuff) where my favourite wrestlers started to become HBK, Bret, Mr. Perfect etc. Piper is excellent in this match.

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 12:56 PM

would you guys say that was Piper's best match in wwe?

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 12:58 PM

Seeing as to how the only Piper MATCHES that spring to mind for me are that one, The Mountie, and The Hollywood Backlot Brawl, I'd say a resounding YES.

The Hollywood Backlot Brawl was incredible, though. Don't get me wrong.

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 01:03 PM

I'd agree its his best match while he was in WWE, but is it better than his dog collar match with Valentine to make it his greatest match ever?

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 01:10 PM

Yeah, probably.

CSL 02-13-2014 01:10 PM

the dog collar match is a bit overrated I think/hasn't aged as well just because it was "the most brutal match ever!" at the time and shocked a lot of people. I'd have to go back and watch it again (been awhile) to be sure but that's how it feels rn

CSL 02-13-2014 01:11 PM

absolutely beat the shit out of each other tho

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 01:12 PM

didn't both have to take legit time off? or just piper?

CSL 02-13-2014 01:14 PM

Piper maybe because his ear got wrecked (at least that's what he said on the DVD) I'd guess anything else was embellishment to get over the "brutality" of it, was no worse than a lot of things we've seen since

loopydate 02-13-2014 01:25 PM

Bret/Owen
HBM/Razor
Savage/Flair

Worst - UT/Gonzales

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 01:27 PM

I think I'm about to pop in the Randy Savage DVD and watch that Flair match right now.

CSL 02-13-2014 01:28 PM

ha actually just got up and checked the Piper DVD listings to see if the Bret match is on there, gonna watch it when I get back/later tonight I think

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-13-2014 01:43 PM

Bret/Piper
Bret/Owen
Shawn/Razor

Bret/Owen was better than Shawn/Razor IMO, but that is just personal taste. Felt there was much more drama without the need for a ladder. In saying that, Shawn and Razor had some incredible matches sans ladder that were never brought up much.

Worst- far too many stinkers to choose from

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 01:45 PM

It's on the Bret DVD. I have that one too.

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-13-2014 01:46 PM

That backlot brawl was fucking crazy, they absolutely went bonkers on one another.

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-13-2014 01:47 PM

crazy thing about Bret/Piper is that it's barely even 10 minutes, if it even is 10 minutes, and some how it's friggin epic. Feels like some grueling battle.

Emperor Smeat 02-13-2014 01:47 PM

Best:
HBK vs Razor - Mania X
Hogan vs Warrior - Mania VI
Owen vs Bret - Mania X

Worst:
Hogan vs Yokozuna - Mania IX

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 01:51 PM

odd to me I've always held 9-11 as the worst manias and 2 matches from mania 10 are getting a lot of traction.

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 01:55 PM

Fuck Hogan for not working Bret. Just wanted to say that somewhere.

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 01:55 PM

fuck Hogan again. it cant be said enough

9 & 11 maybe. Ten is probably one of my five favorites.

NormanSmiley 02-13-2014 04:12 PM

9 was udder dog shit. Was there live and it just sucked all around

Anybody Thrilla 02-13-2014 04:16 PM

The Doink match was pretty sweet though, right?

Seth82 02-13-2014 04:31 PM

Best:
Hogan vs Warrior
Flair vs Savage
Piper vs Bret

Honorable Mention:
The Rockers had some great matches with Orient Express & Barbarian/Haku

Worst - either UT vs Gonzalez or Kerry Von Erich vs Dino Bravo

DAMN iNATOR 02-13-2014 04:42 PM

● Hogan v. Sgt. Slaughter WM VII. Always thought it must've taken huge balls back then to have Slaughter "turn" on the USA and become an "Iraqi sympathizer".

● Michaels v. Ramon Ladder Match for the IC Championship. Still a classic, despite not being the actual first-ever ladder match as it was billed. The first was at some house show a week or two before WM. Still, there was tons of fans who had never seen a ladder match and I think of it as one of the all-time classic ("vintage"? :shifty:) ladder matches.

● 'Taker v. Snuka WM VII. The match that started the incredible 21-0 streak for UT @ WM.

○ Worst match: Hogan taking Yokozuna's challenge for an impromptu WWF Championship match just so Hogan could beat him for it and surprise, surprise, play the patriotic all-conquering hero again, which by that time was really played out as far as Hogan went.

CSL 02-13-2014 04:51 PM

first WWF ladder match was about 2 years before HBK/Razor
