What is your local indy fed?
Since I got bored with WWE and TNA,I have gotten more into Indy wrestling. And not just the big name indies like PWG,Dragongate,ROH,etc. But my local ones.
I got 5 Indies that run in my general area. 1.Battlezone,this is the former MS NWA fed. They run weekly shows about an hour away. But it sucks. One family runs the fed. And has turned it into shit. They use to draw around 100 people each week. Now they are lucky to draw 20. Plus they pay the wrestlers $5 if they are lucky. 2.Pro Wrestling Ego,They are decent. And have been trying to run a deep south version of the Super 8. This years had Sugar Dunkerton in it. 3.Bayou Independent Wrestling,They mostly run Louisiana. But have branched out into MS. Went to a show last October. Which had Honkey Kong. Who is a big fat white guy doing a Kamala like gimmick. If you ever saw Traditional Championship Wrestling, lots of the TCW guys also work for BIW. 4.Powerslam Productions,They run about 7 shows a year. Co-owned by former WWE ref Wes Adams. They are one of the best indy feds in MS. Last May they had a free outdoor show. With Big Daddy V in the main event. 5.Wildkat Sports, based in New Orleans Wildkat is one of the bet indies in the south. Owned by Luke Hawx. Last year they had a great 1 hour long 2 outta 3 falls match between Luke and Matt hardy. The last two have plenty of matches up on Youtube. Just search their names. |
HWA used to run shows really close to here, but they don't anymore. Cody Hawk runs Rockstar Pro Wrestling up in Dayton, but that's almost an hour from me. Sucks too. I went to a ton of HWA shows and got to hang out with Jon Moxley (Ambrose), Raven, Shark Boy, Abyss, Rob Conway, Nigel McGuinness, and a bunch of other random wrestlers who came through for those shows.

There is one guy,Curt/Studd Matthews who is doing a Hulk Hogan tribute gimmick. He has been doing it about a year and is major over. |
A Hulk Hogan tribute gimmick sounds worse than an actual Hulk Hogan gimmick.
You say 'major over'...what's the estimated average attendance to those shows? |
I don't think we have any rasslin here in Tampa

I've seen commercials for this place called 2CW, they have had John Morrision there a few times.

Powerslam Pro draws between 140 and 200 for each show. Wildkat draws between 400 and 800. Stud makes it work. He comes out to Eye of the Tiger. Is listed as coming from Biloxi Beach. He does all the Hogan moves and mannerisms. Then after the match he goes out into the crowd and thumb wrestles the kids. http://i.imgur.com/rTgeCS2.jpg <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/L5ppHQQkY3k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> That is from the March 2013 PSP Spring Bash show. The smallest crowd PSP has drawn in 4 years. And was still about 140. |
Here in the middle of nowhere, we do actually have an indy fed, which surprised me. Ended up covering their last event as part of my job. Wasn't so organized as some larger companies, but they put on a decent little show. Had one guy who cut a good heel promo that had me grinning in the truck.

What I love about deep south indy shows is the crowds. Powerslam shows the crowds are 80% marks. There is this one mentally challenged guy ,Johnny, who is at every show. Well at last years Spring bash show, during the main event.Luke Hawx was the champ, and he was brawling outside the ring with Calvin Rose. Then were right in front of Johnny. Johnny jumped up and nailed Rose in the back of the head with a punch. Rose turned around saw who it was and shrugged it off.
After the show I saw the owners talking to Johnny's Mom. |

A few times a year Wildkat puts out episodes of their webshow. The matches on this one are from the first Wildkat show I went too. The Bestia 666 vs Bolt Brady match stole the show. |

Big Time Wrestling does a few shows a year around here. Mostly about autographs with famous stars instead of talent. John Cena's dad is a heel manager there.

Yeah he mentioned getting to see them. Kind of surprised Wildkat didn't bring them in. They bring in lots of former WWE stars. At least I got to see Vis last year. And meet and bullshit with Matt Hardy. He was shocked that I knew John Henry. And then told me no one had ever gotten him to autograph the OMEGA dvd set. |
In terms of regional, New England Championship Wrestling. World Wrestling Alliance was also another big regional one before it shut down a few years ago.
Power League Wrestling and Showcase Pro Wrestling are both the local ones in Rhode Island. Don't think they have tv shows but NECW does. |

Excuse the crappy camera work. A fan out in the crowd filmed it on their phone. But that is the tag title match from the last Powerslam Pro show. |
