Wrestlers wiping their feed on the mat

OK this is only a small thing but it's been bugging the hell out of me. When some wrestlers are comming down to the ring they walk up the ring steps and just before they are about to climb through the ropes they stop and wipe their feet a few times on the edge of the mat. Is there a particular reason they do this?

A lot of times- if in the States- anti-American gimmick workers will wipe their feet on the ring, as if they were showing disgust for the place. They're wiping the dirt off their shoes and onto the ring. It's a sign of disrespect.

It's so their pigs don't miss a meal.

It's so anything that has collected on the bottom of their boots on
the way to the ring won't get in the ring itself. If you get any type
of dirt,sand,glitter,etc.. on the canvas, and that stuff gets in your
eyes - it's bad news.

It cut off the second half of my post - which I will now repost:

It's basically like wiping your feet on a mat before you walk into
someone's house.

Actually, yours was gay. The foreigners who do it are like Regal or Tiger Ali Singh, and they're doing it because it's "proper". I debated calling you on it right off the bat, but then Kayfabeman basically explained it in a lengthy post. (lengthy for the subject anyway)

Never said it was right, I just said I liked it better. :o

Anyways, it was what I have ALWAYS thought when they did it. The ONLY people I've seen do it are generally anti-American heels, so I always figured it was a sign of disrespect.

*shrug* Still liked mine better.
