If you haven't seen Bruce Prichard's Guest Booker, then spoiler alert. A huge "what if"
So apparently the WWF was in talks with Hogan coming in at Survivor Series right up to the last minute and it would have changed the whole landscape.
Bruce rebooked the screw job as Bret not getting screwed. They were gonna have Hogan come in at Survivor Series, have Bret keep the belt, drop it to Hogan at the Rumble and Hogan join DX and have Austin vs Hogan with Tyson doing the same finish. Prichard had this as the card Hogan vs austin Bret vs Taker HHH vs HBK. Now I love Hogan. Love love love Hogan. But could you fucking imagine how awful the Attitude Era would have been if Hogan was around? How would have things changed. Hogan and Vince met face to face before the ppv, so this is somethingbthat would have happened. |
I don't know. Why would Hogan have made the Attitude Era awful? Especially if he had agreed to the same finish that ended up happening with the Austin-HBK match? It would have been a WAY bigger moment and Austin would have still been a mega-star after it. I'm not sure where Hogan would have fit in with Austin-McMahon presumably taking up the top of the card for years... or if Austin-McMahon even ends up happening. Who knows. There's too many factors at play. I'm not sure why it's such a sure thing that Hogan would have ruined it though.

Exactly, you have Austin vs McMahon and what do you do with Hogan? Put him with McMahon? You're also counting on Hogan playing ball the entire time. I could see Hogan putting over Austin, but there has to be something in it for Hogan down the road. I just can't picture an angle where this works. The main reason it didnt get done was Hogan in WCW hardly wrestled. In the WWF he would have been made to wrestle a ton for the same money.

I love Hogan. I saw him rassle the Rock at WM18, you see, huge fan. I even moved down to Florida so I could be closer to him. However, Hogan in the Attitude Era woulda been pretty lame. Vince was cutting promos about how the WWF was not gonna insult the fans' intelligence and gone are the days of the good guy vs the bad guy. Bringing in the Hulkster woulda been just that. Especially if they put him in DX.

Pritchard is full of shit. Hogan in DX makes no fucking sense.
|
No way....At that point in 1997 they were making tons of dough and working up to Sting vs Hogan at that Starcade....which was the biggest PPV ever at that point.
|
There is a difference between being full of shit and being wrong.

I'm pretty sure hogans contract wasn't up then.
Typical booker making shit up |
I find it hard to believe that anyone could keep this a secert for this long.
|
Bruce stated it was never a secret. They met openly.
|
How come we haven't heard about it?
How could Hulk Hogan not have mentioned this in his approximate 1,000,000 interviews since? |
I thought it was odd too. You should check it out, dl a torrent. It's an interesting interview.
|
Bruce also got uncomfortable when Sean questioned whether the whole screwjob thing was a work. Something has always seemed fishy about the situation, although it probably just looking for things. The whole Bret documentary just "happened" to take place during this, how everyone involved benefitted. Weird, but 99% sure it went down like we sae.

Hogan would have been fucking terrible in DX. There's literally no way it could have been awesome.
|
This sounds completely insufferable.
