VGA to HDMI?

So my new gay laptop has a VGA slot but no HDMI. My tv is the opposite. I used to just connect my laptop to my tv via hdmi wire to watch football and stuff but because I'm a big idiot I didn't check to see if the new laptop had hdmi slot. Did a bit of reading and it seems it's a bit of a pain/expensive to connect them and that a lot of the wires don't work.

What do I do?

Seems really dumb that not every single electrical thing in the world doesn't connect to every other electrical thing. It's 2014.

Hate technology so much

Is it VGA or DVI?

I have this. It's really cheap. It hasn't failed me in the past 6 years. But that's DVI. I'm sure VGA exists also.

VGA needs a converter to run it to hdmi

Can't remember if you are over the pond or not....

USA#1 version

As Shisen said, it requires the converter you see on both of those items. With those cables, it should be plug and play.

Only problem with using the converter is you're not going to be able to transmit sound.

God damn it. I should probably just return my laptop and get a better one

drave 06-12-2014 05:37 PM

Yes, you should. One with a HDMI port.

what you want to do is unplug your laptop for 5 minutes

damp a cloth with some olive oil and rub it on the side of the port, turn your computer back on and it should work

Most TVs have a VGA port now but I guess we wouldn't be here if you did.

It's easy to go from DVI to HDMI, I wonder if a VGA to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI lead would work? I have a feeling that you need something to actively convert the signal but what do I know...
