WWE Network in the UK

Launch cancelled, twenty minutes before it was meant to go live: http://www.wwe.com/wwenetwork/uk-lau...layed-26767676

What a fucking joke.

I want to watch old episodes of WCW Nitro dammit :(

Anybody Thrilla 11-03-2014 04:01 PM

Why would they just cancel like that?

Clerk 11-03-2014 04:01 PM

Atleast it wasnt a place that mattered

Anybody Thrilla 11-03-2014 04:02 PM

I'm watching it right now, btw.

No explanation given.

Could be technical, could be something else. Who fucking knows.

Possibly they've delayed it until after North Korea gets access.

I'm about to watch a Lord Steven Regal match from Beach Brawl 1941 just to spite you.

There will be speculation that they've reached an 11th hour deal with Sky that will really fuck us over.

Hoping there's been some kind of technical issue though.

1941?

I knew the geezer was old, but I had no idea

A mix between general incompetence and them having serious problems getting it ready.

Yeah, it was his debut.

That is my fear.

Watching wrestling in this country is just so insanely expensive. Hoped I would at least be able to get something* at an affordable rate, but apparently that is just a pipe dream.

*TNA does not count as something

Heisenberg 11-03-2014 04:13 PM

That's messed up, they are really adding content to quench my WCW thirst so whenever you get to access it you won't be disappointed.

Thanks.

Git.

Hypothesis from this site that it is an 'injunction': http://whatculture.com/wwe/wwe-netwo...yed-notice.php

SlickyTrickyDamon 11-03-2014 06:57 PM

Looks like the only solution is simple: WWE Network for England can only be the archives and documentary specials. No live PPV or anything live that is also covered by Sky. There probably will be a waiting period for a PPV to be put in the archive so Sky can get its chance to get late comers.

As much as I want to see old content, I won't pay for that alone. Is all on YouTube anyway.

Will be very disappointed if it isn't the same as the US package. But I am 100% aware that was never going to be the case.

Emperor Smeat 11-03-2014 08:37 PM

News from the dirtsheets and UK sources about what likely caused the delay plus what the WWE is doing about it:

Quote:

Reports of a potential partnership deal were rumoured to be behind the delay bringing the Network to the UK, following confirmation that BSkyB will continue to exclusively broadcast WWE's flagship shows in the UK and Ireland through to 2019.

There had been speculation BSkyB may become involved in a deal similar to the Canadian pay channel set-up between WWE and Rogers Communications, but this no longer appears to be the case.
Quote:

At this point we haven't heard anything officially from WWE regarding the U.K. launch. Unofficially, we were told that the web site people were told to take all mentions of the delay off all social media sites as well as the main web site. As of when we were told, it was taken off Facebook and the main web site but the tweet was still up.
So yeah its very likely the Network in the UK will be channel-based similar to in Canada and the WWE wants everyone to forget about what happened today.

Ha!

CSL 11-04-2014 07:57 AM

the Network has been available since day 1 over here via proxy. It's very simple to set up and costs around £9 per month combined for the Network and the proxy, which is still ridiculously cheap given it can also be used with Netflix and other streaming "services". But for some reason plenty of people are aware of this and still refuse to sign up

As long as the one for Scotland has everything it'll be fine. Fucking Yanks.

CSL 11-04-2014 01:58 PM

you're thinking of the WEE Network

CSL 11-04-2014 01:58 PM

hur hur hur

whiteyford 11-04-2014 02:01 PM

I see what you did there.

CSL 11-04-2014 02:10 PM

I sat here giving myself a nice mental pat on the back for a good 16-17 seconds after that one

whiteyford 11-04-2014 02:22 PM

Then went back to your Mumford & Sons.

CSL 11-04-2014 02:50 PM

I'm not even mad, just disappointed :( I hope those words haunt you to your grave :'(

Impeccable 11-04-2014 03:04 PM

The frustrating thing is after pulling the launch, they do what could be considered a massive angle given the push rusev has had, as a network exclusive.

Honestly, it's all the talk about "proxy" services and changing IP addresses and such that puts me off. Sounds altogether too complicated.

CSL 11-04-2014 06:55 PM

it's really not, especially on a gaming console. You need a US PSN account, which takes around 5 minutes to create (or whatever the XBOX equivalent is) then download the WWE Network app from the store/marketplace, sign up for the proxy (which literally takes 5 seconds given the first week is a free trial, you simply go to their site and type in your e-mail address) and to change the DNS settings in your "Network settings" on your console to the ones provided by the proxy on said website. It's all very simple step-by-step stuff and takes maybe 10-15 minutes.

XL 11-04-2014 06:57 PM

Link to a proxy site?

CSL 11-04-2014 06:58 PM

www.unblock-us.com is who I use and have never had a problem with. There are a bunch of others around also

XL 11-04-2014 07:02 PM

Might take a look into it with it being free this month.

Cool King 11-05-2014 06:05 PM

It's not up on their YouTube account yet, so a link to it on WWE.com will have to do for now.

It's an apology from Vince to the UK fans.

A Sky Sports customer service representative informed Prowrestling.net reader Craig Beavis that WWE Network will be launched as a Sky Sports channel. "Yes, we will launch it as a channel with Sky TV," the customer service rep wrote in a one-on-one chat. "Currently we don't have any details but it will be going to be soon... And you will will be notified by adv, email or call."
Them and the WWE are working out some final details which is why the WWE doesn't want to talk about it any time soon.

Cool King 11-06-2014 04:30 PM

Fuck Sky.

XL 11-06-2014 04:33 PM

Yup. I'll be sticking to watching illegally.

Maluco 11-06-2014 08:35 PM

A channel really is terrible, especially if it is just episodes of WWE Vintage and random things on at random times. Takes away the whole fun of it.

If there are lots of situations like this internationally, it could mean that they never make up the number of subscribers internationally to make it worthwhile. It could be a disaster for the network as a whole.
