How many of you still go to record stores?

I'm not sure if I have made this thread before. I was wondering if there are other TPWW members that still go to record stores and purchase physical copies (vinyl, CD etc.) of their favorite music.

There's a used CD store here I go to every now and then if I want something new to listen to in my car without spending more than $8

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-21-2015 03:09 PM

I go for a wander around HMV and Fopp when in Manchester, but most of my music buying is done on Amazon, where I can get my CD's cheaper.

For pure music store, the choices here are far and few. It is either Karma (where a CD costs $22 or more) or local music stores who, because they are hipster, are just as ridiculous on prices and faggotry.

i buy records at least once a month, whether it be through different distros or going to record shops around here. love digging through bins of old records looking for gems.

Outside of a mall, don't think there are any dedicated record stores around where I live.

Most of my CD collection came from the local Ames store at the time or from stores that sold a bunch of other things.

I'm planning on investing in an Audio Technica LP60 turntable and restarting a small collection.

Razzamajazz 01-21-2015 10:17 PM

i don't even think there is a music store in my town anymore

I want to do this. I always fancied a collection like John Cusack had in High Fidelity. But I don't know which ones are the "gems". Like what would you consider a gem?

Bobholly138 01-22-2015 03:17 AM

The nearest one I know of is in Jackson. Haven't been in one in years since the Sam Goody south of me closed down. Even then I rarely bought music.

that's all on personal preference. i'm not trying to put together a collection of titles to impress anybody but myself. some of my favorite finds have been a copy of xiu xiu's fabulous muscles with a limited edition screenprinted sleeve, a nearly mint copies of elton john's goodbye yellow brick road and hum's you'd prefer an astronaut.

I havent really for about 13 years now, although one day hope to get into vinyl etc.

I record stuff of my xm radio by using its fm modulator and an mp3 player with fm record capability. Pretty cool actually.

Oh and April 19th is go to a record store day.

Shisen Kopf 01-23-2015 07:12 AM

Yeah, I have no idea what you just said Droford. I use Maxell tapes. Then I put the tape in my Walkman to listen to the latest Def Leppard songs.

i went to RSD last year. it was a fucking madhouse, and this was in my small hometown. i can only imagine what it's like in the city.

dronepool 01-23-2015 11:52 AM

I usually order new stuff from amazon but whenever I want random older albums, I go to the record shop. I like buying CDs.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-24-2015 12:40 PM

I went to Fopp today and bought The Decemberists' What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, along with Season 1-4 Justified boxset, which was going cheap.

Blue Demon 01-25-2015 07:42 AM

I sit by the radio all day with a tape recorder to get my favourite music.

Clerk 01-27-2015 07:35 AM

Fuck yeah! Nothing better than listening to taped off the radio songs on your Walkman. I love the new auto rewind function. What will they think of next?
