Who was your favorite king of the ring?

I personally liked Booker T, he did that shit for a long time and was the champ for a majority of that time it was cool. Opinions?

Seth82 04-30-2015 06:04 PM

Harley Race

The King of Wrestling

CSL 04-30-2015 06:05 PM

knew before I even opened this that Seth was going to have said Harley

CSL 04-30-2015 06:06 PM

for me, Savage in terms of the old style King gimmick they used to do

Owen in terms of King of the Ring. Booker is def "up there" tho

Rammsteinmad 04-30-2015 06:18 PM

Definitely Booker T. To be honest his is the only reign I really remember.

The Condor 04-30-2015 06:44 PM

It'll probably seem obscure, but I loved Shamrock in 1998, and him running through people was great, especially how the final basically capped off a 7 month feud with the Rock. His was the first without the royal accouterments and was not exactly advertised as being the biggest deal, but for the rest of '98 he killed it with his Owen Hart feud, as a world title contender, a great IC champ, a tag champ, and as the enforcer of the Corporation.

Austin, Savage, both Hart brothers, HHH, Edge, Brock and Angle all dwarf Shamrock in terms of career impact, accolades, and importance, but I'll take Ken's 1998 KOTR for what came during his reign, and the different attitude and style he brought to the table.

Booker T.

Edge was awesome.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-30-2015 06:59 PM

The King was a shell of himself of what he was as Handsome Harley Race. King Race didn't do anything that good when he was the King of Wrestling. The true winnah is quite clear.

KISS HIS ROYAL RING!

ALL HAIL KING BOOKAH!

Bad News Gertner 04-30-2015 07:15 PM

Mabel easily.

Billy Gunn.

Because when that tournament began, I picked Billy Gunn to win it and no one agreed with me.

Race was for sure a shell of his former self.

However I just liked the fact he was billed The King of Wrestling.

Him and Bobby Heenan were great even though he didn't do much in WWF.

He's another #GuiltyPleasure gimmick favorite of mine.

George Steele said Harley winning was one big rib, because Race had to lug that cape and crowd everywhere he went.

Shisen Kopf 04-30-2015 08:56 PM

Bret Hart bc he is the greatest rassler to win The King of the Ring.

KaosDarksol 04-30-2015 09:00 PM

Booker T. That was probably one of the best times to be watching Smackdown.

Mr. Nerfect 04-30-2015 10:04 PM

Kurt Angle. But had I have been watching, I think I would have loved Owen Hart and Austin winning it. Booker T did a great transformation. It's about the only time I've ever enjoyed him as a heel.

Theo Dious 05-01-2015 01:52 PM

If we're talking about guys who actually took the King gimmick and sustained it, definitely Savage. He made it so much a part of himself that it was hard to accept the transition when he dropped it. Booker runs a very close second but Savage's brilliance in the role is possibly unmatchable. Even though Booker pulled off the whole "I'm wearing a suit along with a cape and crown and making it work" excellently. I also give Sheamus a fond honorable mention, but that's mostly to do with the easthetic Celtification of the role.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned him yet.

Dukelorange 05-06-2015 08:42 AM

I based my opinion on what they did to use the king gimmick to the highest potential and make elevate themselves and the fact that being the King is a big deal.

Booker T and Randy Savage are the only two that maximized the gimmick to its highest potential. Owen Hart would de a distant third for me with his king of hearts.

Destor 05-06-2015 10:52 AM

I think everyone should lose points that used the king gimmick. Terrible.

CSL 05-06-2015 01:56 PM

this is true former King of the Forum whose avatar probably had a little crown on it Destor http://www.tpwwforums.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Destor 05-06-2015 02:45 PM

CASE IN POINT. (i was the first to do that so really it just goes to show you how generic it is)

hb2k 05-10-2015 06:07 AM

At first I thought this was about the actual tournament, in which case I would say 1993 all the way. As for the King gimmick, I'd say Savage too, his combo with Queen Sherri was so good for that era. King Booker, funny as it was, was a bit goofy and felt out of place in the main events.

I agree with your points on that. Perhaps if they modernized the gimmick. King Booker did a decent job with it for the 21st century. Perhaps the King can have special privileges.

Big Vic 05-18-2015 12:03 PM

When was the last time a face won "King of the Ring"?

hb2k 05-18-2015 12:11 PM

Wanna say Edge?

Ultra Mantis 05-18-2015 05:36 PM

I think Edge technically won it as a heel since Team RECK had all made it to the semi finals. He turned face shortly afterwards.

Was King Shamrock babyface?
