"Marvellous" Marc Rusev?
 

Anyone else seeing similarities between the Lana/Rusev recent tension and that of Marc Mero & Sable back in 1998? I believe the plan is for Lana to break out on her own a la Sable, but will Rusev fall the way of Mero with the success of his valet? Discuss.

Rusev has more talent than Mero did. He is also over on his own merit. It is just in the last few months they have played up "We Want Lana" stuff. When she was there before it was all about Rusev/Russia/Putin.

I don't know about Rusev being more over than Mero in his day, "The Wild Thing" Shooting Star Press was the first time WWE was exposed to that maneuver, along with others in his high-flying style that they were not accustomed to at the time....and all of this was before Sable was around after WM12

Yeah, I would put a question mark there too. Rusev is undoubtedly better in ring, but Mero played the character so well, and I was always really entertained by it. The gimmick also had the realism of the boxing background of Mero.

Sable was also actually attractive.

I can't believe how Rusev is built to be a big badass, squashes dudes left and right, gets an awesome (if not THE best WM entrance) and is now about to lose the more interesting part of his current gimmick.

Between his downfall and Bray Wyatt's Face of No Fear because I am going to talk like I eat PCP for breakfast, do a spider walk and still lose, they have kinda screwed up two great newish guys. Hopefully things turn around for both of them soon, for the sake of establishing credible names or whatever.

Mero getting hit by Sable bombs pretty much was the end for his character. Wasn't taken or seen as serious afterwards.

Rusev was going strong until he met the Great Wall of Cena. He will hopefully recover without having his character totally decimated.

I think Lana is going to stay with Rusev... Her splitting up next week and losing her accent later is too dang predictable. Besides what would she do? I would side her with Barrett or Shamus.
