XBox 1 XBox 360 Backwards Compatability
Huge feature announced by Microsoft. This is available right now in beta if you're part of the XBox preview program and by holiday for full release.
It is going to be like the OG Xbox compatibility on the 360, as in only tested games work. MS have setup a page for you to vote which games they should get working though, so vote for what you want to see: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/298...ty/filters/top |
I went and flagged all the CoD requests as inappropriate.

CoD 4: Modern Warfare should get a push
|
I haven't been able to watch most E3 coverage as I'm in the office all week. How is this being accomplished? I was under the impression that the "architecture" of the system was different and thus the discs could not/would not (CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP) in the new console. Or was that just for PS4?

Will there be noticeable input lag etc with that?
|
Doubtful, since you aren't streaming them.
|
nice
|
Wonder if "games with gold" free games transfer to X1 from 360 too..... that would be fucking awesome.
I keep downloading the free titles, but never get around to playing them. |
Niceeee

Can say what you will about multiplayer and it's cursing 12 year olds, but the campaign that stretches through the 3 games is fucking awesome. World at War/Black Ops trilogy is pretty solid too, but not as good. |
LOVE WaW multiplayer.

Red Dead Redemption is currently top. Absolutely loved that game but not sure I want to go back unless it's a new adventure.

I'd say getting RDR running will be a nightmare. This is a strange feature. It's inherently difficult, and it's only really worked well where there's been the physical hardware in the system: PS2 had an actual PS1 chip in it, Wii U has a Wii chip in there, the first run of PS3s had the PS2 hardware in there and still struggled.
The 360 backwards compatibility with the original Xbox had very spotty coverage, I'd say this will be the same. It's probably alright in that they can add a load of these games on the Arcade. Otherwise it means that loads of people will just pick up a load of old discs for a few bucks in second hand places. COD is a weird choice, I mean the old servers are still running and that's great, this would technically extend that expectation for a lot longer. I wouldn't hold my breath that they would run perfectly well though. |
I'm in the preview program but none of the games I have are on the list sooooooo. Waiting game.

Nintendo has benefited from using the same family of chips for the last 3 consoles. The Wii U can play Gamecube games perfectly when modded. Quote:

Any 360 game you wanna purchase after the fact must be done in 360 and Xbox.com's marketplaces. Can't buy 360 games from the Xbox One. Hilariously.

The Modern Warfare games were awesome. I still have them all, but it'll be too sweet to play on the One |
According to fan voting so far, Red Dead Redemption is leading all Xbox 360 games as the most requested game for BC treatment.

Idiots.
Halo Reach may likely get added to MCC. R* games are shoe-ins. |
Need to get in on preview program :(
|
I'll see if I can invite you later. I was invited myself so I don't if it's meant to be a 'viral' thing.
|
only way is via invite. And I would truly appreciate that :D
|
I think I would like my R trigger to not break. No way I'm playing Mass Effect on my Xbox One. Pretty dumb the number of votes GTA V has. Should be disqualified because there is a One version.
Red Dead deserves to be number one. I've got a digital version I'd love to transfer to my One. |

You'll be able to buy 360 games once the feature is fully launched, just like you could OG XBox games in the 360 marketplace. It's just not there yet.

I want WrestleFest. 2K needs to bring that back to market. They own THQ now.

A) took the time to make the XBONE marketplace less shit B) added additional and highly intrusive "disclaimer" during the purchase process that beats you over the head with the fact that is indeed a 360 game C) took the time to make the XBONE interfaces more intuitive D) took the time to make the XBONE marketplace less shit, and E) took the time to make the XBONE marketplace less shit. Seriously, the games don't appear to be chronological. They sure as hell aren't alphabetical. They're just randomly listed as available titles. Unless you specifically know what you're looking for in a search, just browsing titles is nonsensically labyrinthine. And since it is already done better on the 360, why is this a problem? As for the BC itself, just seems to be two glaring issues. First is the dual "friends" thing seeming to wreak havoc on parties and invites... at least I guess that's what's causing the issue. Second is any (X) function doesn't quite seem to have a workaround, it functions exactly as it should on the One, which means no checking achievements and such. Though I would have sworn I saw how somewhere. .. And the list of games compiles from what you may or may not have available. I only had 5 titles. 7 with disc games included. Then, two of the games inexplicably vanished off my list, though still available to play from my games section instead of the preview menu. |
Opted out of the preview program because I was tired of being booted offline for updates every other week. They really need to prompt that once you dashboard, not in the middle of a fucking game.
Question for anyone who's been able to play 360 games on the One...do your saves come with you? Im curious how they go about that, or do they simply expect you to start all over? |
From what I understand, unless you cloud saved for whatever title, you start from scratch. That's where the BC gamesaves go as well if you start anew.
|
Isn't this feature releasing officially for Christmas? How does that line up with them giving Fallout 3 away with Fallout 4... I guess you can wait.
Also Fallout 3 struggled enough to run on a 360. If they manage that port somehow, hats off to them. |
RARE states their Xbox 360 games being made backwards compatible for the Xbox One will include all of its DLC for free.

The Viva Pinata fans are gonna freak.
|
As per the report, I'm a little bummed about the Defense Grid DLC (I imagine I'm the only one). It actually does include ONE of them; "Borderlands" (no, not related to that one in any way), but didn't include "You Monster", but I assume that has to do more with license issues with Valve with it being Portal themed.
In fact, I'd guess that the delay between now for preview members and holiday window for official launch may be as much for resolving any digital rights issues by then as ironing out technical bugs. |
