Who made who

Got this idea for a thread reading a post the Bret thread, the idea is what superstar put over another and it made them what they are today.

Example would be Bret Hart made Stone Cold. Granted Steve was already sucessful before but the feud with Bret and the WM match pushed him to that next level.

Lock Jaw 09-08-2015 12:28 PM

Triple H made Batista

Andre made Hogan

Hogan made Warrior

Mr.Perfect made Bret Hart

Lock Jaw 09-08-2015 05:57 PM

Bret Hart made Stone Cold Steve Austin (CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT)

Simple Fan 09-08-2015 06:27 PM

I know it is, its just my opinion. Austin was over already but like I said Bret took him to that next level.

This also works in reverse

John Cena made Zach Ryder

Lock Jaw 09-08-2015 07:00 PM

Oh, ok. I somehow forgot what the original post in the thread was.... so when I made my Bret/Austin comment, I thought I was being original....

The Condor 09-08-2015 07:11 PM

Foley made HHH

Hogan was already Hogan before Andre. Andre just gave him a great storyline.

Fairly big stretch to say Hennig made Bret. Definitely put him over strong, but dont think he had the juice at that point in his career to make someone.

Corkscrewed 09-08-2015 09:02 PM

Mae Young made Mark Henry.

Anybody Thrilla 09-08-2015 11:29 PM

Becky Lynch made my penis hard.

Is that now how this works?

Hogan was already an established 3-year champion when he faced Andre. He was already over. It's not that big of a torch because Andre was never the champ. He was a star who traveled around until the novelty wore off and traveled to another location. He was not the man in the WWF ever. He didn't have the torch to pass it. You are being lied to brother.

XL 09-09-2015 08:10 AM

For me it's "which feud pushed them from guy that's over to being a bonafide star". You could argue that Bret & Shawn elevated each other, same with Rock/Austin. Taker helped establish Mankind but his feud with Rocky put him over the top.

I'd say something like this;

Bret > Austin > Rock > Foley > HHH > Batista

Shisen Kopf 09-09-2015 08:14 AM

FREEBIRD!

Big Vic 09-09-2015 08:52 AM

Who Screwed Bret.

Sixx 09-09-2015 09:16 AM

If anyone "made" Hogan it was Sylvester Stallone. :)

I mean of course he was over already, but I think his appearance in Rocky really did it for him.

Then again, I really don't know much about his career in the 70s.

Mercenary 09-09-2015 01:49 PM

If anyone made Warrior it was Rick Rude

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-10-2015 09:53 PM

Yeah, Warrior's peak was the Hogan match, and his valley was immediately after. I'm be inclined to agree that Rude sent him towards his fevered pitch with their IC title feud.

Johnny Vegas 09-11-2015 03:35 AM

The Juice made The Rock
Flair made Sting
Macho Man made DDP
Edge & Christian & Hardy Boyz made each other
The Rock made The Hurricane

Mr. Nerfect 09-12-2015 02:05 AM

Controversial statement: The Undertaker made Edge as a main eventer.

Mr. Nerfect 09-12-2015 02:05 AM

And in a weird sort of way, Shawn Michaels made Chris Jericho.

Anybody Thrilla 09-12-2015 01:44 PM

I'd sort of agree with both of those.

Simple Fan 09-12-2015 03:55 PM

Let's change this up a bit, make it more interactive.

Who? made DDP

Mr. Nerfect 09-12-2015 08:32 PM

The Undertaker made him famous.

Mr. Nerfect 09-12-2015 08:40 PM

DDP is an interesting one. His feud with the nWo is what seemingly first got him "over." That he never joined them probably really helped him too. Was he made through that feud with Savage?

Damian Rey 09-13-2015 12:25 AM

Yeah. He won feud of the year with Savage and recalls the night when Savage said he thought it was about time he eat a Diamond Cutter.

Simple Fan 09-13-2015 12:30 PM

Yea, the Macho feud did him well and not joining the NWO made him that WCW guy with Sting being a 'free agent".

Who? made Kurt Angle

Sixx 09-13-2015 12:47 PM

That Olympic Gold Medal made him.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-13-2015 12:59 PM

I'd say Austin as a heel made Kurt Angle look like a legit main event threat that could beat anyone.

Ruien 09-13-2015 06:09 PM

Jeff Hardy made CM Punk right before leaving WWE.

Simple Fan 09-13-2015 07:04 PM

I agree with Ruien. The Hardy/CM Punk fued made Punk. Had the perfect chemistry between each other and were complete opposite characters which made the feud great. To bad Hardy left but he did do a lot for TNA.

Damian Rey 09-13-2015 09:52 PM

Exactly what did Jeff Hardy do for TNA? Besides embarrass them by showing up to a main event spun out of his mind.

Simple Fan 09-13-2015 10:03 PM

Just from a fan stand point he did them well. Dude has a lot of fans that followed him to TNA. No doubt he has had his problems but if he wasn't in TNA would they have lasted this long? Him and Kurt are the 2 that have carried the company because they hadn't built anyone and they didn't trust Roode as the top guy. He has definitely done more good than bad for the company.

I'm coming at this from a different angle (ha-ha), but I actually think Triple H made Kurt Angle. That feud they did with Angle's Stephanie fixation took Angle from the mid-card (despite him clearly being on the way up), and got him to hang with one of the "top three guys in black trunks" and a few months later he was the WWE Champion. Then Paul Heyman's booking with the guy as a wrestling machine on SmackDown shifted people's perspective on him being a bit of a goof.

The Austin/Angle stuff was good, but the whole Invasion and "Austin shouldn't have been a heel" thing kind of got the impact of it lost. And as a viewer who was just getting a handle on how things in wrestling worked, I sort of marked out for Angle, but sort of felt like he was still a goof that I was suddenly meant to like.

I agree with this. The second and third World Title wins for Punk completely out-shined his first. If Hardy ever returned to the company whilst Punk was still there, it would have been MONEY.

Yes they would have because they lasted the first time he left and saved a lot of money.

He hasn't done jack for the company other than give them another known name that's drifted off to obscurity. "Carried" is a strong word for a company that's gone through three tv deals in the span of ten years or so, gained zero traction in elevating its brand and is now in dire straights.

Not a knock in Jeff but him being in TNA has provided zero long term benefit. They're still going down the toilet.
