Kurt Angle
Chris Jericho

On talent alone, Steamboat and SCSA deserve to be mentioned, but for some reason, I don't associate Austin with the I-C belt. And Steamboat had his reign cut really short because he wanted time off, so Vince had him job to HTM. HTM himself had a really long reign, but was booked to look like such a worthless piece of crap that it's hard to think of him as 'great.' I remember one four-week stretch on USA Primetime where Honky faced Lanny Poffo, Hillbilly Jim, Tito Santana, then 'Cowboy' Scott Casey. The matches went: cheat to win, cheat to win, DQ to retain, cheat to win...yikes. Not his fault, but still, it killed his credibility.

MVP 05-23-2004 02:21 PM

Pedro Morales
Don Muraco
Tito Santana
Greg Valentine
Randy Savage
Bret Hart
Curt Hennig
Razor Ramon
The Rock
Chris Jericho

I don't know, Honky got some of the biggest heat I had ever heard before during his reign. Fans were literally calling for his head by the end of it. So in a character sense, he was pretty good.

The Show Off 05-23-2004 02:37 PM

1. Mr. Perfect
2. Shawn Michaels
3. The Rock
4. Bret "The Hitman" Hart
5. Ravishing Rick Rude
6. The Ultimate Warrior
7. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper
8. Triple H
9. Razor Ramon
10. Randy "Macho Man" Savage

I totally agree. He did big money and drew tons of fans to the arena just because they hated him so much. But i'm just saying when I think of greatnes a guy who was booked to look weak on purpose just doesn't leap to mind. I gues it's the difference forma fan's perspective and an "indsider's" perspective.

Based on revenue alone, HTM is probably one of the top workers in WWE history. But as a fan, I just remember him going months at a time between clean wins.

Nowhere Man 05-23-2004 07:08 PM

 Loose Cannon posted in a thread about the Intercontinental Title without even mentioning Orton? Damn, that takes all the fun out of it!

Anyways, IMO the best I-C Champion has got to be Owen Hart.

Loose Cannon 05-23-2004 07:15 PM

^^Go check the Q&A forum ;)

Nowhere Man 05-23-2004 07:21 PM

I saw it, you forked-tongued devil, you!

A couple of you are fans of the Honky Tonk Man, and that's fine, but the guy makes me sick. "Why?" you might ask. Read his website. He's a very bitter man who believes his own hype. He hates Piper because of this, Hogan cause of that, Nash is this, and Hall is that. He bad mouthed Mr Perfect when he died, bad mouthed Lugar AND Elizabeth when she passed, but praises the hell out of Jake Roberts. :nono:

Um...Didn't Rude pass away before Perfect, and Elizabeth? Or am I going crazy?

HardyStonerfan 05-24-2004 01:51 PM

errr...um can I just say one name to be as annoying as Steve from Family matters.

Jeff Hardy....:-D

He's talking about HTM, not Rick Rude. He didn't even mention Rude.

The Ravishing One 05-24-2004 02:07 PM

Just for the record Rude DID past away before Perfect and Elizabeth. Just over 5 years now.

da_king 05-24-2004 04:09 PM

as a person, htm leaves a lot to be desired but as a heel IC champ he did what he was supposed to (and did it well imo)

The CyNick 05-24-2004 04:17 PM

Its pretty obvious, Randy Orton is #1-10, he's simply the best.

Savio 05-24-2004 05:06 PM

orton hasn't done anything for the title...so far.

91 05-26-2004 01:50 PM

Well, Orton has held it longer than some of the most noteworthy champions in history. Orton so far has held it 164 days by my calculations, beating off the likes of Ricky Steamboat (65 days), Rick Rude (128), Kevin Nash (118), Steve Austin (less than 92, combined), Billy Gunn (19) and Shane Douglas (15... minutes).

Not that I'm saying he's the best champion ever, but if they leave it on him for a few more months...

Deceit 05-26-2004 01:54 PM

If the WWE officals are as high on Orton as we all think they are, they'll probably try to make him one of the best of all time, if not the best. He's got all the tools to be the next "legend", they just need to take their time to build him up to be so. So far, so good :y:

John la Rock 05-26-2004 09:21 PM

I'd say The Rock, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Jeff Jarrett, Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect, and Razor Ramon

Batsu 05-26-2004 09:57 PM

The Rock, Rick Rude, Bret Hart, Angle, Benoit, Jericho ... most of these people have been mentioned already.

I like The Rock's reign especially because he reminded me of The Honky Tonk Man...the way he would retain the victories.
