Wrestling's Scummiest Smelly Meatball?

So for this week's podcast, we're going to look at some of the scummiest things wrestling promoters have ever done in a misguided effort to draw money, get somebody over, or attract attention, and as always we'd like your suggestions for this lofty title.

So the question is simply - what lowlife act or tasteless decision, on screen or off, do you find to be the most scummy and appalling, and why? As always the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly, and given we're talking any promotion ever, you're probably spoiled for choice. So what's your personal pick?

EDIT - Part 1 of our series discussing Wrestling's Scummiest Moments and taking your suggestions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean....mentsPart1.mp3

This is gonna be difficult. That said, I am gonna go with the Fritz Von Erich heart attack angle in World Class.

Shisen Kopf 01-04-2016 11:29 AM

Katie Vick was a classy moment so not that. Probably CM Punk dumping Paul Bearers ashes like 2 weeks after he died.

Dude, those weren't supposed to be HIS ashes. I thought this crap was cleared up years ago.

Mercenary 01-04-2016 11:33 AM

aNY THING THOSE BACK YARD FOOLS TRY TO POOL OFF AS WRESTLING

Big Vic 01-04-2016 11:33 AM

Randy Ortons character after the death of Eddie Guerrero....

Also didn't Carlos Calon run an angle off the Bruiser Brody stabbing?... vaguely remember hearing something about that.

Big Vic 01-04-2016 11:35 AM

Yeah this might be worse than the Eddie thing.

Let me just knock out a few that will come up.

It's not Katie Vick. That was just dumb. It was a fictional character and nobody ever actually fucked a corpse.
It's not the Eddie Gurrerro post-death stuff. That was tacky and disrespectful but you know what, after the "I'm Your Papi" storyline Eddie would have no place to complain.
It's not the Benoit tribute show, that was just really bad judgment in the midst of an unprecedented disaster.
It's not finishing the show after Owen died. That's what performers do in that situation. If the crowd didn't agree then they were free to leave and I don't think any of the wrestlers were forced to perform.
Gonna think about this some more. Stay tuned.

Ok serious response Vince making Trish strip and bark like A dog

Nicky Fives 01-04-2016 12:52 PM

Paul Bearer would have loved the CM Punk angle, so definitely that..... I'd have to go with Katie Vick....

CSL 01-04-2016 01:06 PM

in terms of recent stuff, the Reid Flair stuff was pretty low-brow

Trish has stated repeatedly that she never had a problem with it.

Fignuts 01-04-2016 01:21 PM

Bret Hart writing in his book about all the women he cheated on his wife with while she was at home raising their kids, and trying to act like a victim/gain sympathy for it.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-04-2016 01:26 PM

Making people wrestle CM Punk. He seems like he would absolutely reek, and making other people have to be that close to him is disgusting.

Lol you have a transcript?

CSL 01-04-2016 01:28 PM

maybe that promoter who brought a completely height-of-his-problems Scott Hall out for that one indy show despite the fact he should probably have been in hospital, let alone in front of an audience. The Fritz heart attack as been mentioned. I'm not entirely against that kind of stuff but it was a bit too close to the bone given what had gone on with a couple of his sons already. There may be something there with Snuka killing his GF and Vince showing up at the police station but I doubt we'll ever know the full story.

lol yeah, "Julie was a bitch, I didn't want to be lonely, the boys like pills, I liked girls" then describes a bunch of them in almost Mills & Boon esque detail

Maluco 01-04-2016 01:32 PM

Eugene was pretty poor taste imo. It was cribgeworthy and unfunny at times and I am sure parents watching with special needs children didn't feel particularly good about it.

The one that really annoyed me though was Muhammed Hassan. They had successfully built up this really layered character who was a heel, but was justified in his frustration at what he perceived to be mistreatment of Muslim people post-9/11. It is still topical today and was really interesting and I was intrigued to see where he might go as a character.

Then out of nowhere he basically orders a bunch of hooded terrorists to the ring to get the Undertaker, going for cheap shock value and basically saying, yeah, I am exactly what I was protesting against being a few weeks ago. It was horribly poor taste and robbed us of a really interesting character and personality.

Lmao, remember reading this on a flight once and just couldn't get my head round what angle he was going for. Fair enough admitting it, but why is he feeling sorry for himself?

Fignuts 01-04-2016 01:50 PM

It essentially amounted to "I know it's bad but they're soooo hot. God it sucks being me."

Eugene is kind of a grey area for me. Seems terrible that they'd have someone pretending to be handicapped, but at the same time he was booked as an inspirational character, and I know for a fact that he had some positive effect in that regard.

That's the first thing that came to mind

Bad News Gertner 01-04-2016 03:07 PM

One word: Oklahoma. Russo and Ferrera mocking Jim Ross's Bells Palsy was horrible. It came off as two 12 year old being mean......but those two."12 year olds" were in their late 30's. It was un necessary and mean.

Exyle 01-04-2016 03:10 PM

Sunny's treatment of Chris Candido has to be high on the list. All accounts seem to indicate that he was genuinely in love with her and she treated him like garbage... strung him along while she fucked whoever she wanted. Lots of rumors and speculation, but I think there's enough congruence among the "rumors" to indicate that she was genuinely evil to him.

thekrow 01-04-2016 03:17 PM

I would like to add to this list with Devastator's incidents and behavior at the end of season 5 in 2014. Ultimately it ended up costing Devastator his job as CHW had to release him officially "due to unprofessional conduct". As a funding member of CHW, it was a huge shock and a really scummy moment for Devastator to do this not only to himself but also to all CHW fans across the world.

Big Vic 01-04-2016 03:36 PM

Damn i dunno how good of an idea it is to fire one of your funders.

Bad News Gertner 01-04-2016 03:36 PM

But what about this sick meme Chimera gave me. Can I still use it?

Emperor Smeat 01-04-2016 03:43 PM

Vince's interview with Brian Pillman's wife shortly after his death. Done both for a ratings ploy and I think to get the wife to publicly say the WWF nor wrestling had any role in his death.

Devastator screwed Devastator unfortunately...no one else to blame.

Exyle 01-04-2016 04:00 PM

Maybe Piggy James or farting Natalya, too. Lump all of that into the "women, lawl" category of scumminess.

Stickman 01-04-2016 04:08 PM

I was listening to a podcast one time and Mickie James was the guest talking about how she didn't like that storyline, and one call calls up and earnestly states "Yeah before they ran that story line I noticed you were bigger"

She was kinda perturbed.

Bad News Gertner 01-04-2016 05:43 PM

Mickie James is fat, so it's not scumy.

The Condor 01-04-2016 06:14 PM

How has no one mentioned Steph turning the 9/11 attacks into a diatribe against the US government for going after her father during the steroid scandal?

Perhaps a tweet from Big Steph earlier this year wherein she wants to use philanthropy as a marketing tool ::Warrior Award::.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-04-2016 06:20 PM

Trying to pass off Rosa Mendes as a woman was a bit out of order too. It wasn't even like he was a good wrestler. Strange situation all around.

KIRA 01-04-2016 07:17 PM

Wrestling wise I'd say Vince mocking JR's Bells palsy with a B.A star poster visible in the background just proves this company does not give a shit about the causes they promote

Non wrestling their association with Susan G coleman organization only so much of the money they make actually goes to research the larger part to their CEO

Also they sue charities that use certain words that they have trademarked in short its a horrible organization and a scam theres no way WWE isn't aware of all this. So pretending to actually give a shit is the scummiest thing the WWE does IMO

Hanso Amore 01-04-2016 07:29 PM

Ian rotten and his redneck drones helping beat that one guy after his match with Mickie knuckles in some hardcore crap in a gas station parking lot.

The guy was like some fat untrained loser and they used it all as a chance to try to put themselves over and shoot on some loser.

Vastardikai 01-04-2016 08:55 PM

That time the tournament of death almost became just that.

Or WWE coordination in an employee's lawsuit against CM Punk.

Is it scummy if the doctor has a good case?

Defamation is very hard to prove. It going to trial could go poorly for WWE.
