WWE superstar John Cena will face NXT star Shinsuke Nakamura during the "WWE Live" event in Honolulu, Hawaii on Wednesday, June 29, according to multiple reports.

Reports surfaced about the Cena-Nakamura matchup on Monday. Later in the evening, during WWE's "Monday Night RAW" show, a commercial reportedly aired locally in Hawaii announcing Nakamura vs. Cena and Brock Lesnar vs. Kevin Owens as double main events.

ProWrestlingMag later confirmed the matchup with the venue in Honolulu, and said that the event would air live on the WWE Network. Asuka vs Charlotte is also scheduled to take place.

Cena vs Nakamura doesn't make any sense

NXT Takeovers WWE will be the "big summer angle"

Makes plenty of sense for a Network Special. Doesnt need a build just put the two in the ring and have a solid match. More excited for Lesnar/Owens though.

All three sound like really good matches.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-10-2016 11:12 PM

Now that's a fucking house show.

Assuming this doesn't have anything to do with storylines going on at the time (nxt invasion or whatever) and this is just a one off nxt/Raw roster crossover, this is the perfect idea for a wwe network "special event." It's probably geared toward the Hardcore fan who tunes in to nxt and likes that product more.

Depending on how the rest of the card shakes out, I wonder if one of the goals is to give some main roster guys a bit of a rub from nxt to legitimize certain guys by getting them to have solid matches with guys the smarks already like. If that's the case, who would an ideal opponent for Roman Reigns be? Balor? Joe? Who else on the main roster could use a good nxt style match to bring out the best in em?

reigns vs joe sounds delicious

Reigns v Joe writes itself. Joe is a Samoan who didn't get the luxury of riding the coattails of a family legacy and instead had to scratch and claw his to the big time while Roman was given the red carpet treatment because those in the business know his dad

Perfect blood feud angle if they ever wanted to pair those two in the ring.

"Samoan Pretty Boy" versus "Samoan Bad Ass" has money written all over it in my eyes....

Lesnar vs. Joe. It's all I want.

#1-norm-fan 05-11-2016 06:38 PM

Lesnar vs Joe is definitely the more delicious option.

#1-norm-fan 05-11-2016 06:38 PM

Reigns vs The Drifter can dark match that shit.

WWE vs NXT Supercard would be delightful but sadly would not draw nearly what it's worth.

It wouldn't be on traditional PPV. So, it wouldn't draw anything in that sense. It might be a way to boost WWE Network sales if people are considering dropping it or picking it up for a month.

According to the sheets, the event itself right now isn't planned to be a Network special nor will Lesnar be on the card. Same goes for Charlotte vs Asuka possibly not happening at the event either.

The 6/29 return to Honolulu after seven years is already sold out. Just to clarify rumors that had been going around, to the point even talent believed they were true, WWE has confirmed that this show will not be a network special. Also, the reports claiming that this show will feature Lesnar are also incorrect. Lesnar was never even asked about working the date and WWE is not advertising him for the show.

Regarding talk of a Charlotte vs. Asuka match that week, they may be facing off but it is not official. Charlotte, Asuka and Natalya are all booked for the Honolulu show and given Asuka will be a babyface in Honolulu, it could be a three-way or a tag in some form. Right now only Asuka and Paige are advertised for the Japan shows on the same tour. It would be logical that the talent used in Honolulu would go on to Japan.

Nakamura’s first main roster matches will be that week. It’ll be interesting to see who he’s booked against. Historically when it comes to matches like this in Japan, they go with Jericho as the utility man. As of this week, the Japan cards hasn’t been booked. Last year’s Japan tour saw them do a network special that was the most-watched non-PPV show up to that point in time in network history. There has been at least talk of something at Sumo Hall like last year, but nothing confirmed.

They should run this. And they should include it on a premium WWE Network package.

James Steele 05-15-2016 12:38 AM

Reviving the "Bash at the Beach" brand and hyping it up as a Network Special makes a lot of sense. Have Shane "pay" for Triple H to come to Hawaii and have a luau in honor of Stephanie. Cue to Trips and Steph having make out session (and implied rough sex) on the beach during a luau as Shane McMahon returns to the arena and makes a hell of a card.

Mr. Nerfect 05-15-2016 12:48 AM

They should have Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon buddy-trip around the island.

Evil Vito 05-15-2016 04:52 PM

I will be very sad if Cena/Nakamura doesn't transpire.
