What did the winner of the King Of The Ring get? A title shot? And if he did, what was the purpose of the Royal Rumble?

Since I've been watching (99), the only time the KOTR got anything was the last year, when Lesnar won and was granted a title shot at Summerslam. Maybe 2000 had a stipulation about the 6-man tag main event where if Shane, HHH, or Vince won then the KOTR got a title shot. Not sure though.

Usually the KOTR was just WWE's selection of giving a guy the ball to run with that they had hopes for.

If I remember right, the only thing that basically the winners of the KOTR tournament won was a push. They were just shown for a while and some people did good and kept the push going like Stone Cold. Some had it and dropped it and now are basically back in the lower ranks again like Billy Gunn and then some never even left the ground like Mabel.

In like 99 and 2000 I tried to catch a show whenever I could remember. The only show I managed to see was the Smackdown where Stone Cold chases Booker T into a grocery store.
