Report: Alberto Del Rio finished with WWE

Alberto Del Rio is finished with WWE. According to sources close to the situation, Del Rio informed WWE through his lawyer that he was opting out 60 days ago.

Del Rio was apparently frustrated with the empty promises he was given after being recruited to the company last summer. Del Rio had been promised a main event push, but instead was quickly put into a Mex-America angle that went nowhere, followed by being bundled as part of the mid card heel faction, the League of Nations.

As noted, WWE announced on August 17th that Del Rio and his real-life girlfriend, Saraya-Jade Bevis, a.k.a. Paige, were both suspended for 30 days for their first violations of the company's Wellness Policy. The timing is interesting given that Del Rio had given his notice several weeks earlier, in late June.

Del Rio last wrestled for the company on the August 19th episode of SmackDown, where he faced John Cena. He is not expected to return to the company at all, and is free at the end of September to work anywhere in the United States. He will be able to work in Mexico and abroad imminently.

Though I'm not a fan of Del Rio it's a shame that these guys (Rhodes, Ryback) are leaving at a time when WWE are starting to improve how they use their guys.

Hanso Amore 08-31-2016 04:25 PM

He will make a killing in Mexico and Indies. And this opens up the field for the guys they are using better. Cant have your cake and eat it too. If they didnt leave, there wouldnt be room for Slater to have a tag push.

Big Vic 08-31-2016 04:30 PM

Hopefully this means Samoa Joe will come up to 'SD!'

Anybody Thrilla 08-31-2016 04:34 PM

I'd like to see him back in Lucha Underground.

Eh. Depends on which guys.

The ones you named, and people like Ziggler and Slater are just floundering. The newer NXT guys, as in, ones who debuted on the main roster in like the last year at most, are being utilized better (for the most part), but you still have shit like Vaudevillians being lost in the shuffle or having Rusev beat Swagger, Ryder, and Mark Henry in rotation.

Once again, instead of having guys who should have been in credible veteran positions by now, like a Del Rio or Cody Rhodes, they keep jamming these folks in midcard hell and job them out to where fans don't give a fuck, because something newer and exciting made noise over that way somewhere.

And even though they're improving on using new people better, they still have problems. For example, Enzo and Cass are going to be in danger of getting stale pretty quick, because of overexposure of the same thing. Baron Corbin just comes out to be tall. Braun now has the Ryback squash match gimmick.

Yes, Owens and Balor are poised as main event level guys now, but it wouldn't seem so shoehorned if there were actual progression and letting fans take the journey.

There is no reason Alberto Of The River shouldn't be a top-tier heel in the company right now, especially after a) the issues surrounding his initial departure and b) the fact they brought him back. Seems like it was another one of those moves to keep him from making noise for another company more than actually thinking he has value for WWE.

Rammsteinmad 08-31-2016 05:28 PM

Haven't really given a shit about him since his return to be honest.

Simple Fan 08-31-2016 06:57 PM

Was much more of a fan off his as Alberto El Patron than Del Rio so I'm glad he's leaving. Would like to see him sign with ROH so he could work Japan with NJPW and Mexico with CMLL. Wouldn't mind him going back to Lucha Underground either.

Stickman 08-31-2016 07:07 PM

Good, not once have I been entertained by the guy. Not before nor on his current run. One of the most boring wrestlers to ever be champion

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-31-2016 07:07 PM

He wasn't anything special without Ricardo. He did alright for himself this year landing Paige anyways.

screech 08-31-2016 07:20 PM

I am a fan, but don't blame him a bit. Has done nothing of note since he returned, and they really watered down the gimmick long before he left the first time.

He'll make a bunch of money somewhere else, I'm sure.

Emperor Smeat 08-31-2016 07:42 PM

Still don't get why the WWE rehired him just to repeat the same poor effort as before. They have him beat Cena for the US title but don't put the same effort in his reign as they did with Cena.

If the rumor about the $1.5 million deal and him replacing Kalisto as the top draw for the Hispanic market were true, they did a really horrible way of showing it.

Black Widow 08-31-2016 08:05 PM

good, don't come back you boring Border Bunny!!

Fignuts 08-31-2016 08:05 PM

Have neverbeen able to get into a Del Rio match.

If you are going to burden someone with a bad gimmick they might as well make the most of it, right?

She's hot enough that I don't care.

BigCrippyZ 08-31-2016 11:52 PM

Well, as long as he stays out of legal trouble, at least now he can do as much coke off Paige's tits and ass all day long without any repercussions to his job.

Mr. Nerfect 09-01-2016 06:39 AM

The WWE really don't have a fucking clue what to do with their Hispanic stars.

Alberto Del Rio, as a gimmick, was done when he got pinned by Edge at WrestleMania. He had his shot, he slipped, he missed, he was done. It was time for a repackaging then and there. If they didn't want to do that, then he should have won the fucking belt. They've booked him very poorly since he's come back and have no idea about how to present him.

I wonder if Paige tries to get out of her contract to go with him? They'd have great leverage as a duo together. If they sign, for example, with ROH, "The Real Boss" Paige Knight would be a centerpiece to their Women of Honor thing. El Patron could be a big player right away and work CMLL and New Japan too. You know that Billy Corgan would pay him a lot of money to go to TNA and start making people tap too.

It's a shame there's not that legitimate #2 that has Kurt Angle, Cody Rhodes, Wade Bennett and Ryborg under contracts, rumored to be courting Bautista and CM Punk. Maybe with a cable slot on Spike TV. Jim Ross and Jim Cornette on commentary. Dutch Mantell agenting women's matches. Raven there in a backstage capacity. Such a damn shame.

Mr. Nerfect 09-01-2016 06:42 AM

"Hey Nick...I mean, Dolph -- when's your contract up? How do you feel about getting in the ring with Kurt Angle on PPV? You're friends with a few porn stars, right? You want one of them to be your valet? We'll even give your brother Ryan a shot and let him use his actual name. Are you friends with Becky? Think you could whisper in her ear about the offer to jump if she can't get pushed past Cena's girlfriend?"

Ruien 09-01-2016 08:45 AM

Haha. Love how you brought up your dream girl. But ya, so much talent is out there that a company would be able to build themselves up with ease.

What did Jeff Jarret's promotion turn out to be? Just garbage?

Mr. Nerfect 09-01-2016 08:59 AM

Yeah, didn't really get much going at all. I don't really think Jarrett had much money behind him, and he does have that TNA stank on him still.

She's locked till 2019 in the WWE assuming it doesn't have some sort of buyout option.

Even if the WWE agreed to release her early, still would have to deal with the no compete clause which could be up to a year long at least in the US and/or any promotion with tv coverage.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-01-2016 11:44 AM

Thought the no compete clause was bullocks, and won't hold up in court. I'm pretty sure Del Rio beat it last time he left.

Big Vic 09-01-2016 11:58 AM

Yeah but I think he will still get paid by WWE until he works somewhere else in the US.

Emperor Smeat 09-01-2016 12:05 PM

Think he threatened a lawsuit because WWE went way too strict with the clause.

Instead of the usual 90 days, they hit him with a 1 year no compete ban for any promotion with tv coverage regardless if they were in the US or not, and I think up to 6 months for all other promotions. Also not allowed to bad mouth the WWE nor discuss why he got fired for any media interviews.

Big Vic 09-01-2016 12:46 PM

I wonder why he ever went back to them? I would have blown up and start going on the Today show about racial injustice.

Emperor Smeat 09-01-2016 01:03 PM

Pretty much because of money and WWE getting rid of the guy who caused the incident with Del Rio. The other guy threatened to sue the WWE if he got fired or blamed so Del Rio took the brunt of the punishment instead.

Lucha Underground offered him a bigger contract but WWE offered more guaranteed money and extra perks like merch and ppv percentages.

One of the terms from the WWE backing down on the no compete clause was Del Rio not being allowed to publicly bad mouth the company which is why he never really talked about it to the media.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2016 09:38 AM

Apparently Vince promised to make ADR a Paul Heyman Guy and turn him into their big Hispanic star. That got turned into the Zeb Colter stuff and then jobbing to Kalisto and being put in The League of Nations.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2016 09:44 PM

MSL broke the news on his show with Kevin Sullivan that Mark Cerrano approached both Paige and ADR independently and asked them to end their relationship.

Destor 09-02-2016 09:46 PM

Good for him

You just joined TPWW. How do you know that? :O

Juan 09-04-2016 04:33 AM

I was into him when he came back and won the US title and had some good matches while champ, but after that it was evident WWE stopped caring and so did everyone else.

Juan 09-04-2016 04:34 AM

The Zeb pairing never really clicked either
