I've seen like zero hype for this movie... does anyone care? Is it going to be bad?

Big Vic 10-26-2016 10:58 AM

What got me thinking about star wars today was I think people would consider episode 3 a good Movie if Anakin slaughtered Jar-Jar when he turned evil.

Lock Jaw 10-26-2016 11:28 AM

Lots of hype in the Star Wars thread......

Ruien 10-26-2016 07:06 PM

I have not yet decided if I will see this in theaters or not.

Savio 10-26-2016 09:24 PM

In that trailer it makes it look like Leia always knew her dad was vader? hmmm.

Simple Fan 12-18-2016 07:50 PM

Just got back from seeing it. I liked it.
SPOILER: show
Tarkin being CGIed into the movie was cool and didn't look bad. R2D2 and C3POs cameos were cheap and just something to get them in the movie I thought.

i dunno. I thought that at first until the final frames when the time line was made clear. Theyre inclusion, admittedly fan service, does tie everything together.

Lock Jaw 12-18-2016 08:08 PM

SPOILER: show
Dunno, I thought the Tarkin CGI looked "pretty bad"/"out of place" and it took me out of it a bit. Should have just got an actor lookalike like they did with Mon Mothma.

That's about my only negative comment possible about this movie, though.

Simple Fan 12-18-2016 09:53 PM

SPOILER: show
Maybe this was just a test to see if they could CGI in a young Harrison Ford for the Han Solo film. I'd rather they found a young actor though. Thought Tarkin was cool but I do agree in the later scenes the CGI stood out more.

Lock Jaw 12-18-2016 10:19 PM

Ok, I'm ditching the spoiler tags because if you are coming in here without seeing the movie first, you kinda deserve what you get.

Anyways, they already have an actor for the young Han Solo film.

DONT CHOKE ON YOUR ASPIRATIONS

McLegend 12-19-2016 11:43 AM

I loved the CGI Tarkin. The CGI Leia was ok. Did anyone else think James Earl Jones sounded off? I thought it was another voice actor at first.

Last act of the movie was hot.

I did yes. His age was showing in his voice. His thick african accent was more audible than is normal for his Darth Vader.

road doggy dogg 12-19-2016 11:50 AM

The Tarkin CGI was fine, I thought. You simply could not tell the story without Tarkin... I thought he looked good

Destor 12-19-2016 11:52 AM

It took me out of the film a few times. Reminded me I was watching a movie. But I think it looks great. As good as any CG character has ever looked.

road doggy dogg 12-19-2016 11:52 AM

Loved K-2SO as well. Reminded me a lot of the various droids from the Old Republic games (RIP expanded universe)

Destor 12-19-2016 11:59 AM

I told my dad he reminded me of HK-51

KOTOR is totally cannon though, they're still making the MMO so it toally counts

Emperor Smeat 12-20-2016 06:09 PM

Apparently the film had a different ending originally planned according to the director.

SPOILER: show

Quote:

In an Empire podcast, Gareth Edwards said his plan at first was to have all the main characters survive the events of the film because he assumed the historically wholesome Disney didn't want them to be killed. However, Lucasfilm signed off on the ending where everyone dies, much to Edwards' surprise.

"We thought we weren't going to be allowed to, but [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] and everyone at Disney were like, 'Yeah it makes sense. I guess they have to because they're not in A New Hope,'" Edwards said, as reported by The Verge.

Edwards went on to say that he never even filmed an alternate ending where the main cast members survive. "I kept waiting for someone to go, 'You know what? Could we just film an extra scene where we see Jyn and Cassian, they're okay and they're on another planet?'" he said. "And it never came. No one ever gave us that note, so we got to do it."

Lock Jaw 12-20-2016 06:15 PM

Plenty of shots in the trailer from some kind of alternate ending, though

McLegend 12-20-2016 06:50 PM

Everyone had to die.

Lock Jaw 12-20-2016 07:29 PM

I hope Marvel does a Cassian Andor comic book series..... cancel the Poe Dameron comic to make way for it.

Buzzkill 12-20-2016 07:40 PM

Pretty good movie. Didn't care about any of the characters tho

Ruien 12-20-2016 10:19 PM

I like how they never stated that Asian was a former jedi. Leaves everything up to the imagination.

Only other character I really liked was the traitor pilot dude. Everyone else was just okay. Awesome story.

Feel like they made this movie to explain why Luke was able to blow up the Deathstar since it was basically a running joke for 20 years.

Lock Jaw 12-20-2016 10:27 PM

Doesn't explain why the second Death Star also had a critical weakness

I'd assume only because it was still under construction when it got blown up. Whatever security measures the Empire used was probably only meant to be a temporary thing like the shield base.

Lock Jaw 12-20-2016 10:57 PM

Thought it being under construction was a trap to lure the Rebels in, but it was in fact fully operational.

Emperor Smeat 12-20-2016 11:02 PM

Think it was both but still unfinished in terms of overall work.

Emperor fooling the rebels was also meant to help Luke turn faster to the Dark Side by crushing whatever hope he had left.

Destructively maybe. Have of it was clearly unbuilt however.

This quote works in so many ways in or out of context, I'm surprised it isn't a meme already.

His sad devotion to that ancient religion helped them conjure up the stolen data tapes.

Yeah, Wash knocked it out of the park. Drew more feels for this bot than Sonny, and K-2 wasn't even a main character.

Unrelated: I also had no problem with CG Tarkin. I thought it was pretty cool to add an integral actor post mortem. Hell of a send off.

Could be wrong, but i could have sworn I saw an HK droid in the mass of people at the trading outpost in the beginning.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-23-2016 02:32 AM

Pretty excited to see this. Going Christmas night

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-29-2016 08:29 PM

I wish old Shinsuke Nakamura had lived.

Jar Jar Tarkin took me out of it. Should have filmed him from the back for the most part. Also seems wrong to violate Peter Cushing in that way.

Lock Jaw 12-29-2016 08:57 PM

- By "old Shinsuke Nakamura", I assume you mean Donnie Yen's buddy with the machine gun laser? If so, they don't really look anything alike other than they are Asian and have long hair. I guess that's "enough" for you, though.

- I would like to request you stop using the term "Jar Jar Tarkin" as it doesn't really make sense. I think you are trying to go with that he is an "out of place CGI character", but what it really does is conjure images of Tarkin running around being "annoying" and "borderline racist".

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-29-2016 09:41 PM

Asian, Long Haired, grizzled look and likes the color red,

She did say "somehow I've always known in Jedi"

Lock Jaw 12-29-2016 09:47 PM

That was to Luke being her brother

they asked his family for permission and they were fine with it.
