is La La Land actually any good. looked "fucking terrible"/had no interest from trailers etc I saw

Viola Davis as supporting actress is odd

Haven't seen it. But pretty much every year there's some blockbuster December film that comes out and gets basically all of the momentum going into nomination season. I expect La La Land will clean up for the most part, although Denzel getting Best Actor feels like a near-lock.

Sixx 01-24-2017 09:24 AM

i literally haven't seen any single movie from the best picture category

slik 01-24-2017 09:25 AM

I haven't seen anything nominated yet but want to see Hidden Figures and maybe Moonlight.

RP 01-24-2017 09:54 AM

I've seen Arrival and Hell or High Water. Hell or High Water is really really good.

ClockShot 01-24-2017 10:58 AM

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Silence got snubbed. Was gonna go see that today, but with this weather I'm gonna go during the weekend.

Quite surprised Ruth Negga made it in for Best Actress. Figured Amy Adams would get the nod for Arrival. I'd boot Meryl Streep and give her the spot.

I'm thinking La La Land & Manchester by the Sea will fight over the awards. With a surprise here and there.

No Cookie for Hidden Figures?

JimmyMess 01-24-2017 03:11 PM

first year I've never seen of any of the movies, nor actually heard of them.

RP 01-24-2017 04:33 PM

Arrival is about Amy Adams having Aliens talk to her while she makes super serious faces.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-24-2017 04:51 PM

Star Trek Beyond picked up and might win best Makeup. They had 50 different aliens for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

RP 01-24-2017 06:57 PM

I want Mel Gibson to win Best Director.

Sometimes in life you say and do things and you just dont get a chance to say sorry. And i think this is his chance. I dont care about these gold statues at all. What I care about is that Mel can possibly get up there and give a heart felt apology and win everyone back. I think it's potentially the best moment of this show.

RP 01-24-2017 07:15 PM

Ruth Negga getting nominated for Loving is so damn good. Amazing movie. I'm shocked it didnt get a best Picture nom. I hope she wins. She's legit amazing actress.

RP 01-24-2017 07:16 PM

Loving got snubbed big time.

Joel Edgerton got snubbed badly too

I hear Hell Or High Water is incredible, anyone seen it yet?

Blue Demon 01-28-2017 08:23 AM

Taraji P. Henson should've gotten nominated as well.

Dodger881 01-28-2017 10:37 AM

Only 8 years ago, we was checkin the prez birth certs LOL, now the Oscar nominees getting checked by the prez.

Seanny One Ball 02-02-2017 03:12 PM

Hell Or High Water really was incredible. I'm amazed Ben Foster and Chris Pine haven't been nominated over Bridges. Bridges retreads Rooster Cogburn and puts him in a modern setting but Ben and Chris carry the weight.

Ben Foster was already my favourite character actor but now Chris Pine is up there as one of my top leading men. He just needs to do more actual acting like this and Stretch.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-02-2017 03:47 PM

Fuck that he's Kirk. He doesn't have to do shit.

Seanny One Ball 02-02-2017 04:18 PM

I think he's great in Star Trek too but I doubt he'll do any more now, he'll start doing more and more to show his range if he has any desire for critical recognition.

JimmyMess 02-02-2017 05:36 PM

doesn't he have another one on his contract?

Seanny One Ball 02-02-2017 07:54 PM

People sign on for multi film deals all the time, it's no guarantee for an actor or studio to see that through nowadays.
Andy Garfield as Spider-Man and Karl Urban as Judge Dredd Are examples.
I'm not saying they wouldn't do it but the third one was a bit of a production nightmare from what I've heard and it underperformed so they may shelf a further film.
