There is not Daniel Bryan or CM. Punk match that would be pointed out in Greatest of All Time threads

Bring it! Let me know which one! Prove me wrong.

RP 01-26-2017 07:23 PM

Give me one and let me know why. I'll prove you wrong!

Lock Jaw 01-26-2017 07:33 PM

What about that one Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk match?!!

Destor 01-26-2017 07:36 PM

Not sure what the point is...?

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-26-2017 07:38 PM

They are too similar. Opposites attract.

#1-norm-fan 01-26-2017 07:46 PM

I think I agree with what you're trying to say but for the sake of conversation...

CM Punk vs John Cena at Money in the Bank was pretty great.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-26-2017 08:12 PM

I think they were each other's best opponents.

Wishbone 01-26-2017 08:25 PM

Wait... Are we arguing whether a match between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan can be called "one of the best matches of all time" or are we arguing about whether or not any match involving one of the two can be called "one of the best matches of all time"?

If it's the former I'm inclined to agree because I honestly can't name a match between the two from memory. If it's the latter however, I'm inclined to disagree.

I'm more interested in hearing what matches you think are the "best of all time" though. A list like that would be pretty hard to compile in my opinion. There are a lot of factors to take into account like the psychology, in-ring action, buildup, atmosphere, stage, etc.

#1-norm-fan 01-26-2017 08:27 PM

I made that list years ago. It was glorious.

Wishbone 01-26-2017 08:50 PM

Really? If you find the time I'd love to get a link to it. I'm curious based on your usual attitudes what your top matches would be. I imagine it'd be an interesting read to say the least.

Damian Rey 2.0 01-26-2017 09:02 PM

Cena v Punk at mitb was a fucking stellar match
Arguably one of the GOAT.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-26-2017 09:07 PM

Meltz gave it 5 star.

As I look back on it now I'm curious why I put certain things where. But there.

Punk/Cena Money in the Bank 2011

Bryan/Sheamus Extreme Rules 2012

hb2k 01-27-2017 03:55 AM

Agree with all the MITB match votes, one of the best thrill rides of a match ever with everything going on at the time.

Bryan might not have had that one single GOAT match contender, but he had matches one step lower more consistently than most.

Probably my favorite matches from both guys.

Anybody Thrilla 01-27-2017 04:01 PM

MitB is pretty much a given, but Bryan/Sheamus was really insanely good. That's what they should have done at Wrestlemania instead of the whole 18 second thing. It was overshadowed on that very card by the hype machine because of Brock/Cena, and to a lesser extent Jericho and Punk's streetfight, but it was DEFINITELY match of the night and one of my favorites ever. Seriously. Go back and watch it right now. Classic stuff. Easily the best 2 out of 3 falls match ever, if nothing else.

A.J.K 01-27-2017 04:10 PM

Bryan/Ziggler Bragging Rights 2010. If i remember right, it was tied with Taker/HBK for MOTY.

Big Vic 01-27-2017 04:12 PM

Always thought that 18 second match should have been set for "Big Show vs Cody Rhodes" since Cody kept saying Big Show was an embarrassment at WrestleMania.

Yeah, that match was tight. The US title match, was it?

Oh yeah, that would have been a good idea. Was that the same show?

Great match indeed, but I guess that sort of begs the question if a match needs a certain modicum of hype and spectacle to ascertain the prestigious legacy as a GOAT. Bryan/Ziggler at Bragging Rights was certainly more impressive athletically than Hogan/Andre, but...ya know what I mean? What's the criteria for this sort of thing?

I see what you mean, yes it would be a Classic for the Quality of the Match but as far as the lack of story goes it kind of puts it out of the running, now if they would've had say a Hair vs title match it could have made it even better.

KIRA 01-27-2017 04:47 PM

Bryan Vs Punk 2012 Money in the bank was fucking fun to watch.

Anybody Thrilla 01-27-2017 05:10 PM

Do you mean Over the Limit?

XL 01-27-2017 05:38 PM

He means MITB 2012 with AJ as the ref.

Anybody Thrilla 01-27-2017 05:53 PM

Ohhh, I barely remember either of those, honestly.

Ol Dirty Dastard 01-27-2017 05:55 PM

they were both great. Too much over saturation though since the early 2000s. All matches tend to blend into one.

There was like Punk vs Bryan, Punk vs Bryan 2, and then Punk vs Bryan vs Kane

That entire PPV was booked so methodically well. It felt really old school. I wish they could put that much care into booking every show. Those 3 main matches were just perfect. They even turned an intense "fuck Cena" smark crowd into cheering like mad for him by the end of the match. I don't know what drug the booking team was on that night but I wish they would have kept taking it.

Emperor Smeat 01-27-2017 07:47 PM

If there ever was some sort of TPWW Greatest Match Ever tournament type thread, have to think both Bryan-Cena at SumemrSlam 2013 and Punk-Cena at MitB 2011 would get included in the bracket.

For direct matches, Punk-Bryan at Over the Limit 2012 was pretty great overall.

Yeah, I rank this towards the top of my all time favorite shows as a whole.

That's because they are heavyweights and nobody cares about skinny fat cruisers.

Chicago ppv crowds baby. Yours truly was at both of these shows.

DaveWadding 01-28-2017 10:18 AM

Bryan / HHH @ WM30? No?

Anybody Thrilla 01-28-2017 10:39 AM

No.
