TPWW Greatest Manager of All Time Tournament: Second Round

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2017 01:35 AM

Cornette vs Albano is a pretty hot matchup for an early round. Both are doing slightly worse in this tournament than expected.

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2017 03:07 PM

*bump*

Sticky, please.

Bad News Gertner 10-25-2017 03:19 PM

Hated voting against Wizard :(. Lots of tough matches this round, especially Albano vs Cornette and Blassie vs Dillon

Destor 10-25-2017 03:29 PM

Stuck

Destor 10-25-2017 03:30 PM

Tossed a coin on Corny and Cap'n Lou

Destor 10-25-2017 03:31 PM

Also with managers I think legacy is the biggest criteria

Evil Vito 10-25-2017 03:45 PM

Some seriously good matchups in this one.

I went with Lou. One of the few bright spots on WWWF/WWF TV from what I've watched between 78-83 and man was their weekly TV ever dull . Ive watched WAY too much of it . He got some real brutal teams over to a degree back then (I know alot of it was Lou just getting himself over but still...the Yukon Lumberjacks. Ugh lol)

Heyman 10-25-2017 06:50 PM

Heyman for greatest manager and color commentator of all-time.

Yup. No one nearly as good.

Destor 10-25-2017 07:19 PM

Really thought heyman was plugging himself for a bit; took my brain far too long to process that

johnsmagic 10-25-2017 07:23 PM

Should use a more recent picture of Sonny... tipping votes will go the other way very quickly

Corny and Albano was hard. I actually struggled with Zeb Colter and Miss Elizabeth too. As a performer, I must prefer Colter, but Miss Elizabeth was just so perfect as part of Randy Savage's entire package. I had to go with her. Also went with Sunny over Mr. Fuji, because Sunny was so fucking good at being Sunny.

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2017 08:58 PM

Either Cornette or Albano will be eliminated earlier than they should be. Letting TPWW decide the seeding though and they have declared it a round of 16 matchup.

Destor 10-25-2017 08:59 PM

Winner withnthe smallest margin faces winner with the largest?

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2017 09:00 PM

Also curious to see if Heyman and Heenan both make it to the finals without a single vote being made against either. They're currently 74-0 and 72-0 respectively.

Basically but I'm including the voting from all rounds to prevent one crazy round from throwing things out of wack.

Destor 10-25-2017 09:04 PM

Given the nature of the seeding its unlikely until the semis. Cornette could get votes against either

Destor 10-25-2017 09:05 PM

Pringle could too i think

Destor 10-25-2017 09:05 PM

Hart probably should but not on this board

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2017 09:18 PM

I don't know. Hart shutting out Ellering like this is pretty surprising. I expected Ellering to have a few "What have you done for me lately?" votes from some newer fans.

Bad News Gertner 10-25-2017 09:20 PM

Jimmy Hart is an easy Top 5, probably Top 3

Yeah my motivation as well. And Fuji wasn't that great compared to Sytch.

Mr. Nerfect 10-25-2017 09:57 PM

I underrate Jimmy Hart, I can admit it. I voted for him here though. Paul Ellering is fine, and I'm happy he's still working, but Jimmy Hart was way more effective and significant.

Bad News Gertner 10-25-2017 10:01 PM

Jimmy Hart in Memphis was incredible.

Destor 10-25-2017 10:06 PM

When i imagine what a manager should be in my head its jimmy hart thats the prototype

Evil Vito 10-25-2017 10:07 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing if Heenan and Heyman can both enter the finals with 0 votes against them.

Mr. Nerfect 10-25-2017 11:11 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing if Heenan can go through the entire tournament without a vote against him. I think it's fairly indisputable that he's the greatest manager of all-time. I love both Heyman and Cornette, but I could vote either one against each other depending on the weather, but neither is getting the nod against Heenan; and they would be the first to vote for Heenan over themselves too.

#1-norm-fan 10-26-2017 12:18 AM

If it goes to a Heenan vs Heyman finals, I definitely think Heyman would get some votes. I thought Cornette might get a couple votes against Heenan, too but now I don't know.

SlickyTrickyDamon 10-26-2017 12:29 AM

Any Corny fan have to vote for Heenan. Corny said Heenan was the best ever.

Mr. Nerfect 10-26-2017 12:39 AM

I'm fairly certain Heyman has said that about Heenan too. I'm fairly certain it's largely agreed upon that Heenan is the best. Anyway, this is getting ahead of ourselves and will take the fun out of the final.

Destor 10-26-2017 12:41 AM

I dont have to agree with these people...i mean i do..but the notion that because they think i must is weird.

Mr. Nerfect 10-26-2017 01:12 AM

No, I don't think you must agree with them at all. But as you said, you do.

Destor 10-26-2017 01:17 AM

In my head theres a strong argument for hart but i havent debated it with myself yet

Destor 10-26-2017 01:18 AM

If the match presents itself though itll be interesting

Mr. Nerfect 10-26-2017 01:32 AM

Okay, I can see that.

:D.

In all seriousness though, I think Jim Ross and Paul Heyman were the best duo commenting team in the history of wrestling, and its not even close. Although the alliance story angle was a let down for the most part, the chemistry between JR and Heyman was top notch.

Heyman has been absolute gold with Lesnar as well.
