Athens Olympics 2004

What is everyone most looking forward to throughout the Olympics this year?

I'll be mainly watching the Track and Field Athletics as I used to compete in the sport for a few local clubs, and I even came 3rd in the English Schools U17 400m with a time of 48.2.

Mens Decathlon

Can't wait to see if Dean Macey competes. The guy was nobody going into the Sydney Olympics. but he came out with a medal and was a minor national hero. I hope he can repeat his performance this time out if not better it.

Mens 100m

For the first time in a long time this event is Wide open I can see at least 12 guys who are capable of winning it this year. Ato Boldon has been on great form of late, as have Tim Montgomery, Jason Gardener, Maurice Greene, Obadele Thompson and the likes. I just hope that the new 'One false start is a yellow flag for everyone' rule, dosen't come into play to much

Mens Triple Jump

With Jonothan Edwards retired now this is wide open. A top tip if your a betting Man/Woman is Christian Olsson of Sweden.

Mens Long Jump

Watch out for my next door neighbour Chris Tomlinson, Not a chance of winning unfortunately. but definately an outside pick for the final.

Womens Middle Distance Events.

Maria Mutola vs Kelly Holmes vs Gabriela Zsabo vs Stefanie Graff all will win at least one medal, maybe more depending on wether they opt for the 800m or the 1500m

Marion Jones

I hear Marion is on good form so far this year, and I'm interested to see how many events she will decide to do, as she burnt herself out last time around.

I always enjoy watching the Gymnastics and Diving events, the competitors are always pretty skillfull.
Also, I try to catch the Freestyle Wrestling events if I can.

Is it really possible to enjoy watching the gymnastics, w/o sounding like a perv?

As for me, if there is some close matchup or big event I'll tune in, but in general I don't really watch.

I mean, first year of the Dream Team I followed, and I remember watching I forget her name, but she hit the vault on a bum leg to win it for the US... Dunno, the olympics just don't seem to mean as much as they did... not sure why...

That aside, I'll probably follow due to all the security concerns.

Yeah I become a track & field fan once every 4 years.

Loose Cannon 05-27-2004 09:35 PM

I like watching track cause I was a sprinter for 3 yrs in high school. I hate the long distances though, until the end.

I haven't ran since high school (2 yrs ago)

But in high school these were my times. Keep in mind my race was the 200. I ran the 100 and 55 occassionally though.

55: 6.8

100: 11.5

200: 23.0

Not great or anything, but not bad for a white kid. :)

Cannon those aren't bad at all man.

I am really looking forward to the Olimpics, especially the track and field, ever since I joined my schools team last year. Our team won the state team title 6 of the past 7 years, so it was just crazy to be on such a dynasty. Tonight was probably my last meet, and I made the schools varsity honor roll in the 4x400 and 4x800, so that was tight. Im real pumped right now.

firstly i'll be shocked if the stadium is ready intime for it to take place with the speed the greek work its looking less likley to be finished in time for the next millenium let alone the summer.

secondly i like track & field and always end up watching the relay races as its always funny when someone in the early matches drops the batton when leading and then end up losing
