What did TPWW think of WWE's rendition of Ultimate Deletion
So, I'll start off by saying--not my thing at all. But I watched it out of curiosity.
I have to say, it "worked", for what they're "going for". Getting that horrific Wyatt character off T.V., and letting Matt do his own weird ting. And, as we know, it trended online so they accomplished their goal of creating buzz. Having watched the original one against Jeff and now this one, I can't say the WWE got it wrong. They were both cringe-worthy, but with purpose. What did TPWW as a whole think of it? |
Well I voted that it made me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan. There was a certain indie feel to the original in TNA that made it funny and endearing and somewhat compelling. The product on Raw wasn't funny enough to make it work for me. The took parts of it too seriously and didn't have enough random comedy to keep me popping. It could have been a totally epic bit of comedy. They could've used Edge and Christian and The Dudleys in a Tekken Tag Tournament type spot, they could've evolved Jeff Hardy into a totally different broken rock star style character subservient to Matt. They could've had a physical Sister Abigail and a brief return of the Wyatt Family for more comedy. They could've used Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett and how funny would it have been if they hired Tony Schiavone and Larry Zybyszko to do commentary live from the compound. The hilarity could have been endless. But it was safe. I do have hope that they do another version but more in the taste that I want.

I don’t know about you guys but I feel like I have the whole world in my hands.
|
Top three. I was thinking about the bottom one with all of the Young Bucks superkicking kids and women. Invisible hand grenades and people wrestling with blow-up dolls in matches.
I could go either way with them doing more or less. It was great but the second time might be dumb if there isn't a guy on the level of crazy of Bray Wyatt to fight. If they get a certain lunatic later on in about 7 months. It could work. |
I actually skipped it all because I have absolutely no interest in anything associated with Hardy now. I always skip forward on Raw when Hardy appears.
I don't "get" the gimmick and never have and I don't think I ever will. |
I wouldn't say that I'm ashamed to be a wrestling fan because of it, but I chose that option because I like voting in polls and it's the closest option to my thoughts on the gimmick anyway.
|
What about option no?
|
I thought it was quite rubbish and a bit predictable, was well gutted that Wyatt didn't come out of the lake of reincarnation as husky harris, will not top the final deletion me thinks, then again it was just a way to introduce the match to a wee audience that didn't see the TNA ones
|
Didn't think it was anywhere as good as it was on Impact. Nothing really new happened and it was just an introduction of sorts. I hope to see more.

Maybe it's just because I don't watch Impact and thus had never seen it before, but I found it to be pretty great. Definitely a lot more intriguing than Wyatt's other pre-filmed crap with New Day in the woods or that DREADFUL House of Horrors match he had, I think with Orton at some PPV a year or two ago.
I think it actually also helped that it was the main event despite Cole apologizing for the match. It was a main event that was quite different from the WWE norm and I found it to be a refreshing change of pace. What I'm sorry about is that the live crowd had to watch another Braun v. Elias match as their main event. Yeah, I said something negative about a Braun match...FIGHT ME. |
It worked for me. It was obviously garbage but it was supposed to be. I couldn't stop watching because of how awful it was. Even my wife was mesmerized by it. We both had laughed almost the whole time. I'd watch something like it again just for the lulz.
As long as they don't start doing it too often and they find ways to keep it fresh. |
It worked but don't really want to see them continue only because it runs the risk of WWE meddling more into it and ruining what made the Deletion matches special.
The WWE version was a lot better than I expected but it didn't have the overall campy feel or unintentional great feeling the Impact matches had. |
I have no interest in seeing this, and it does make me a little embarrassed to be a fan. Camp only works when it's trying to be sincere. Hardy doesn't get that.
|
The kind of trash that you can't look away from, but would be really embarrassed if someone who had zero context saw you watching it.

I do wonder how much Matt bases his character off Kevin Sullivan's taskmaster circa halloween havoc 1995
