Best characters within a game

I think it is important to have some sort of character in a game that you can identify with and have fun being or interacting with.

Final Fantasy 7 is the obvious choice for me, considering the amount of character development you can see throughout the game. I guess alotta people think it's overrated, but I don't think so. Cloud has to be my favorite video game character ever probably.

However, of every game I have ever played, Grim Fandango has the best characters. That game seriously blew my mind and I can still recall even the smallest of characters. The game is hilarious and the characters are lovable. Best adventure game I've ever played.

Y tu?

Tommy Vercetti
Torqe from The Suffering

Aw man... when I read the title of this thread, I was just going to say "Grim Fandango".

Manny Calaveras is THE MAN. Er... THE SKELETON.

MVP 05-30-2004 03:14 PM

Star Ocean 2 and all the Final Fantasies after 7.

Jonster 05-30-2004 03:25 PM

I always enjoy the madcap antics of Liquid Snake (but not so much in MGS2 - stupid *SPOILER IN BLACK* arm)

Well it's the Super Mario Brothers.
At least you recognise the fact :)

Boomer 05-30-2004 05:59 PM

I always liked Luigi more, but that's because he's green and isn't a media hor

And his name makes more sense.
Luigi Mario or Mario Mario?

Mario Mario just sounds like he had stupid parents...

loopydate 06-02-2004 04:43 PM

Sephiroth

Wondermouse 06-02-2004 04:49 PM

I couldn't stand Sephiroth. I prefer Seymour for my FF Villains.

Bricktop 06-02-2004 04:54 PM

Kefka, the most vocial and amusing of all FF villians. He is there from start to finish in FF3

Disturbed316 06-02-2004 05:27 PM

Dante from Devil May Cry

TheNamelessOne 06-02-2004 08:30 PM

Jan Jansen from Baldur's Gate 2.

Every character from the Monkey Island series. Mainly, MURRY THE DEMONIC SKULL.

Zidane from FF9. A lot of people seem to hate him, but he was a breath of fresh air from that complete and utter tit Squall from FF8. Squall was like a Dashboard Confessional album - Whiny and pretentious.

Morte from Planescape Torment. Yeah I have a thing for talking skulls.

Exactly what I was thinking. With the rising actions or whatever they were called in Star Ocean 2, when you would enter a town, you built up a relationship with a certain character.

Jason Cage 06-02-2004 09:35 PM

Dante
Max Payne

Y2Crippler 06-02-2004 11:02 PM

Spawn
Ryu from Ninja Gaiden

One of my fav game characters is Tina from Dead Or Alive. I mean, c'mon, she's a supermodel, but also a prowrestler! ;) You can beat up undersized japanese girls with tiger bombs & Figure 4's! You know she's got to be tough too, when her dad's a badly designed knockoff of Hulk Hogan! :D I wish they would give her Eddy's triple vertical suplex in the next game tho.

Fryza 07-11-2004 04:24 PM

Moonstone and Nuke Uragimsha or whatever from the .hack// games.

I would said all the FF's BEFORE 7 (7 included). Also, is Star Ocean 2 any good? Just got done finishing the SNES original and that was something special :)
