Are there fun jobbers anymore?
Was watching AEW the other day/week and Triple A said something about Lee Johnson being boring.
That got me thinking: Are there any jobbers who have personalities/lean into it like Brooklyn Brawler did? I don't watch Dark, Elevation, or Main Event so if someone is having a fun gimmick on one of those shows I've not seen it. (Also Gertner's B-show gimmick posts helped me think of this.) |
Every other person in WWE not named Roman Reigns is a great jobber.

RIP James Ellsworth

I like how AEW is using Brandon Cutler and Nakazawa now as Omega and the Bucks' lackeys... better / more useful than their old gimmicks
|
Ooh yeah the "elite lackeys" are fun.

AEW has a few. Nakazawa and Cutler were mentioned. Luther and Serpentico, Peter Avalon, Marko Stunt, Sonny Kiss, Jack Evans is pretty much a jobber at this point, same with Joey Janela
|
They all win though. A jobber imo hardly ever wins except for very rare occasions. Those guys are all Jobbers to the Stars
|
I don't think Cutler, Avalon, or Nakazawa have won a single match. Not sure about the other guys.
Marko Stunt is not treated as a jobber, which is actually offensive. |
I know Cutler was on a losing streak but looking at 411mania who posts their records they all win sometimes
Just checked and overall Cutler at one point won 10 in a row Avalon has actually won 6 of his last 8 Nakazawa is 3 wins 5 losses in 2021 A jobber to me is an unsigned goober. |
So to answer Screech's question, no and there hasn't been for almost 25 years
On the other hand, perhaps the role has evolved into guys like Avalon/Cutler who win on AEW Dark but NEVER win on the main show |
Shawn Dean is the one winless AEW signee at 0-33 but I don't think he's particularly interesting either

Although the Brooklyn Brawler did beat Triple H once. |
I guess kids just don't grow up with the dream of becoming a pro jobber.... would be cool if someone did though, and they had like a video package where he was all "Brooklyn Brawler... Barry Horrowitz... these are the guys I grew up idolizing"

Yup. Lombardi/Brawler, Horowitz would get wins in opening matches of house shows which would air on Prime Time Wrestling. Brawler more so than Horowitz
|
There are no fun wrestlers, let alone jobbers.
|
Barry Horowitz pinning Skip and the crowd reaction are one of my favorite childhood memories of mid 90s WWF

It's weird that Horowitz over Skip gets remembered more. Gotta be Jim Ross's call.
|
I remember an e-fed character I made once whose gimmick was that he was suicidal, but he was too much of a coward to kill himself, so the next logical step was obviously to become a pro rassler and get in the ring and hope that someone literally killed him in the ring via him being a scrawny li'l dude who couldn't really fight back.

That’s called a Mulkey

And yes JR’s call definitely helped it. |

There are plenty of jobbers out there it's just that the business model has changed while our perceptions haven't (if that makes sense.)

Reminds me of a jobber character I ran a long time ago on an old school e-fed called Jim Slides whose entire character was that he would "slide" around the ring and his opponents couldn't catch him. Was very fun to post from someone ending their roleplay with "Badass7899 has JimSlides by the throat....tbc" and to continue with, "But JimSlides slides out of the hold!".
I miss old school efeds. |
