Rate the Game: Week 63

Getting a late start on this one but what can I do? Being better prepared, sure, BUT AT WHAT COST? Anyways, we're past the halfway point for sure with this week's edition. Before looking into the future with what game is next, let's look at how well The Last of Us did. There was a bit of contention but overall it seemed to be well liked. How well? Let's look at the results....

Joel and Ellie's romp through the playful zombie-infested wasteland earns itself a spot among the top as it share the number 8 spot with Shadow of the Colossus and knocks Sonic the Hedgehog out of the elite 10. I have to say I'm less enthused about games occupying the top of the list as it's more editing I have to do but, oh, well. Maybe this week's game won't give me that dilemma. It all depends on you and how you rate it. Let's go to the .gif!

It's another title that I fear may suffer the same fate as Condemned: Criminal Origins, that is the lack of player base; it's the PC horror FPS spookfest, F.E.A.R (First Encounter Assault Recon). What rating do you think this game deserves? Did you even play it? Do that poll thing and discuss and share and have a good one. Until next week!

Never played it

Had some friends that loved the series but outside of watching them play it I have nothing to go on.

I remember having a lot of fun with this game. Its been a long time since I played it, but the slo-mo mechanic was crazy fun and it had decent good level design. Not a classic, but a really underrated game. I'd put it between 3 and 4, but rounding to 4 because of how much fun I had with the game.

Still wondering how the mechanics behind shooting an apparition to make it go away works.

Sorry, haven't played it.

As an aside, if it hasn't already been covered, I'd be interested to see how many played PlatinumGames' Anarchy Reigns.

This might be the first time I've heard of that one.

Ok shooter

Fails as a horror game though, as it's difficult to be afraid when you're a walking arsenal, slaughtering dozens of soldiets.

Yeah, the scares weren't anything special, not really something that should be considered horror. I mean, its possible to do scares while being loaded up with weapons, but I dont remember that in this game. Then again, I played it a long time ago.
Might be worth a reinstall

I don't know. Those moments when you get sucked into those Alma hallucinations were pretty strong in the mind fuck department. Those invisible creatures with the red eyes that swiped at you were also kind of creepy. Nothing a couple of shotgun rounds couldn't solve but still....

another one i never played :(

M-A-G 06-17-2021 10:36 AM

It's worth a look, I think. I bet it can be found on the cheap for either the Xbox 360 or the PS3. That's how I played it, even though I got shit from my PC purist friend for doing as such.

I remember when I was in Austin a few years back and I got up ridiculously early for a shoot in the downtown area. This was like, 5:30 in the morning and it was still dark as fuck and I remember walking in front of offices and looking inside the windows and getting flashbacks to this game because it looked so much like the building levels. Needless to say I was more than thrilled when more people showed up.

Yeah I don't remember it selling very well. I got it used at a secondhand game shop. I remember picking it up and while it definitely has flaws, if this was early 2013, I'd at least give it a recommendation as a rental.

Seems like this round shouldn't count.

M-A-G 06-20-2021 02:41 AM

I mean the next one isn't until Tuesday; plenty of time for people to track down a copy, play it, and then shower it with the fours it so rightly deserves....:shifty:

I remember the first time I'd heard of/seen this game. My friend installed it on the day I visited when I was on vacation. It was very impressive in terms of graphics and A.I. The atmosphere was creepy but it balanced out with some pretty cool action set pieces. I'm not a fan of bullet time but I was able to ignore it for the most part. Story-wise, I could absolutely see this working as a feature film provided it was given to the right hands. Uncovering the truth behind ATC and dealing with all of Alma's head games was a trip. The expansion packs were nothing to write home about but still welcome. F.E.A.R. 2 took the creepiness to another level. Didn't get to play F.E.A.R. 3. That's another one I should track down. But, yeah, there's enough in the first game to put it over the hump.
