Take a look at this image, and tell me what you think.

I firmly disagree, as I do think Eddie's heritage is an honored one.

You think the one who posted this heresy needs '3,000 Amigos'?

This looks like the shenanigans of one Lock Jaw to me.

This made Eddie Guerrero trend at #2 on Twitter today

#1-norm-fan 07-25-2021 09:17 PM

Is this guy famous on any level? How did this become such a big thing? Is that all it takes? How does tweets work?

I was thinking the same thing. How did a random tweet from some random guy that got 22 retweets cause Eddie to be the number 2 trend lol.

Maybe all those times WWE and AEW brag about trending is really just 35 people tweeting "hey wrestling is on".

That’s so funny.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-25-2021 09:50 PM

A B+ grade makes you a first ballot Hall of famer these days. Eddie’s an A- player at worst.

Eddie Guerrero was good but not great. He only got super popular when he died. Just like Kurt Cobain. That's a fact.

XL 07-26-2021 12:53 PM

Yeah, I think objectively it’s true. There’s a tendency to lionize people when they pass especially if they pass earlier. It’s a similar story with Owen. Both were very, very good but neither top, top guys.

Eddie's feud with Rey (outside of the child custody elements) made him an A+ for me. Before that I would have probably given him the B+

He jumped to an A for me by beating Brock at No Way Out 2004, A+ by successfully defending against Kurt at WrestleMania XX.

fundiddle 07-26-2021 10:12 PM

i guess shisen should get props for that, then. still, any excuse to post that gif is valid

Sepholio 07-26-2021 10:20 PM

Eddie is almost A+. Can't put him there because that's reserved for the people in the GOAT conversation and I don't rank him quite that highly.

fundiddle 07-26-2021 10:43 PM

i seem to remember he was supposed to feud with stone cold before he "took his ball," did that program ever materialize outside of a bar scene?

i still wish we could have got eddie vs hbk. don't think they ever even locked up in a tag or a rumble. part me of wonders if they had, how that would change our perspective in hindsight. also, that might be the only argument i would have against the brand split that existed in the mid 00s: they held that shit off too long!

Damian Rey 2.0 07-26-2021 11:13 PM

Eddie, IMO, is the greatest Latino superstar of all time. Good look, could work, could talk, was entertaining as hell, and could be the most lovable face but also a great heel. I would say he’s an A level talent.

xrodmuc316 07-27-2021 12:27 AM

He was always a great worker, but his last run from 2002 until he passed was legendary. 3 years isnt a brief run, that more than solidified him in my eyes.

Mr. Nerfect 07-27-2021 12:55 AM

Eddie was always great. There’s this idea that it all clicked into place circa 2004, but I honestly think that’s just his push and kayfabe. Eddie was a damn near complete worker in 1995/1996. The thing that held him back was his size and how that juxtaposes against guys like Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash. But there is a parallel universe where WCW was the Eddie Guerrero promotion.

Imagine him having a proper program with Ric Flair or Bret Hart in WCW. Or if they didn’t fire Austin and Guerrero ended up working with him and Pillman there.

It would have had to be the same parallel universe where WCW actually pushed Austin like they supposedly promised him they were going to, and that Pillman got that feud with Flair when Ric wanted to "make him".

weather vane 07-27-2021 02:24 AM

When Eddie first turned heel in WCW (97 maybe?). That was when it all clicked for me. Guy was a complete stud.

M-A-G 07-27-2021 07:52 AM

An A+ player that was treated like a B+.

Eddie and HBK only shared the ring in the 2003 and 2005 royal rumble, dunno if they locked up at all.

Eddie and Stone cold faced off against each other in an 8-man tag in 2000 not sure if they actually wrestled at all though.

M-A-G 07-27-2021 09:07 AM

Both of those matches would have been fire.

drave 07-27-2021 09:56 AM

Couldn't have someone outshining HBK though, could they. Guerrero COULD have made him look like a chump, but wouldn't have because was a class act.

HBK v Eddie looks a helluva lot better than HBK v Taker on paper.

Bad News Gertner 07-27-2021 02:30 PM

A+ because he put over an A++ champion in JBL

D+ at blading though.

Eddie was awesome, but I hated Eddie Guerrero on my T.V. Mainly because I found his accent annoying.

yeah, born and raised in the USA, spoke perfect english. but fuck that accent

i seriously don't know who is a gimmick/coward here, but i just want to clarify to you, specifically, you need to own that shit and elaborate

Bad News Gertner 07-28-2021 06:50 PM

When he "plays up" his accent, it's very annoying.

fundiddle 07-29-2021 04:32 PM

right, because turning the dial up on your actual self has never made anyone relatable or connectable to such a degree, or higher. to each his own, i thought eugene was annoying but lovable, obvs not even in the same category, but hey. ¡odelay, vato!

Bad News Gertner 07-29-2021 05:15 PM

This x 1000000000

Most of us were around back then, how we we so quick to forget? I feel like these wins would be focused on more if he didn't die and he would have been pushed even further. He died when the WWE was ready to take him to the moon, Steph even said (iirc) he was going to be getting another title win.

I marked out so hard when he won against Brock, and I was ROOTING FOR BROCK to win. That says something. Dude was incredible.

Also remember when he was a heel, and all he had to do was look angrily at Rey's mask to make the entire crowd hate him?

In ring ability is not even up for debate.

This dude's tweet was obviously just to stir the pot, but I'm mostly responding with my opinion to the posts that seem to somewhat agree with him in this thread.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-29-2021 07:23 PM

I damn near cried when he beat Brock. Fellow American born Mexican winning the top title of the biggest star in the company at the time? What a moment. Even my dad was like “oh he’s raza? That’s cool we got one.”

It’s sad that his run as a top guy was so short.

Bad News Gertner 07-29-2021 08:21 PM

He did fantastic businesswise. Better than Brock by a large margin.

Bad News Gertner 07-29-2021 08:22 PM

My favourite Eddie was 97 heel Eddie in WCW. His facial expressions were outstanding.

Did he now? I have no idea what kind of drawing power he had.

Bad News Gertner 07-29-2021 09:51 PM

It's why they took the belt off Brock and put it on Eddie. Eddie was drawing massive numbers with the Latino crowd. It's actually part of the reason why Brock left the WWE the first time. He wasn't happy about it.
