Rate the Game: Week 72

Good morning, one and all. Getting a slightly late start on this because of...reasons...Yeah, that's it. Well I consider it a win if I'm able to knock this out before nine so there you go. We say goodbye to another week as number 72 is up to bat right now. Before we go crossing that bridge let's take a look at last week's Wolfenstein 3D and see how it fares on our glorious leaderboard. All signs pointed to middle of the road but how'd it do overall?

Well we don't create an eight-way tie as I feared but we do extend things over on the number 46 spot as Wolfenstein 3D joins fellow first-person titles Call of Duty 4 and Condemned: Criminal Origins, and platformer Crash Bandicoot to create a 4-way tie over there with it's average 3.33 rating. Seems right that it ranks a bit below Doom. Well can we look forward to adding another tie with this week's game? Let's take a look at what we're up against this week! Bowl, do your thing!

Week 72 brings us more first person goodness but with a bit of a twist as it's all about brains and dark comedy instead of bloody running and gunning. This week's game to rate is the surprise hit from Valve that came bundled in The Orange Box, the mind-bending, puzzle-oriented Portal! This is little game that exploded into phenomenon territory certainly had some humble origins but did it resonate with you? What judgment shall you pass on its mechanics and writing style? Think with portals and take the poll and discuss and share and all that good stuff. Until next week....

I will, of course, be dropping memes like a bitch in this thread. :)

ill give it a 3 because it is a good game, just not my tastes.

The Orange Box as a whole really was one of the best deals in gaming. I actually felt like I ripped off Valve when I bought it.

portal is one of my favorite puzzle games and i love puzzle games...so based off of zero objective standards i give 5. its no talos principle tho

I remember being miffed at my roommate after I bought the Orange Box. I hadn't touched it yet as I was going to devote a whole weekend to it and I came home from work one day to find he had already finished all of the test chambers and proceeded to finish the game while I watched on stewing in my pissed off-edness. He claimed it hadn't taken him long, which I believe. The game was pretty short. I later demonstrated my anger over his conquering of the game before I could by buying him a Companion Cube plushy.

Reminds me of a clerk at a local gas station here having a "SPACEBALLS the mask" mask.

I will, of course, track one of those down and buy it.

I'm actually amazed at myself for holding off on posting this as long as I have....
