If they finally flip Cody as a serious heel, the rest of their heels better start adjusting their expectations on achieving success, because they wont need anybody else.

watched the last match with my family, mom was impressed with Sammy Guevara's flipping, and dad said Cody "looks like an asshole" but he was glad he won because he didn't like how the other guy (Guevara) was wearing pink tights

Good women's match... Love Statlander, and Hirsch is v good too

I like Cody winning. Sammy just isn’t interesting right now. And he’s the least interesting TNT champion they’ve had. That’s not entirely on him but his character has been directionless. Cody meanwhile keeps teasing a heel turn, and even his celebration and the look on his face screamed asshole.

The real crime here is that Miro’s title reign was squandered.

I don’t even think this is a case of continuing to grease the wheels of a Cody turn.....a new season of Go Big Show starts in a week or two and they want him looking more of a star than he did when he was getting murdered by Malakai Black every time he showed up.

I just can’t get behind Cody getting this sort of push as a face OR a heel right now. I know that there are even smart people who think a heel turn will be awesome, but because of the nature of the AEW audience, I just don’t think it’s going to work:

* If they do it with subtlety like they just did, then it doesn’t amount to the same thing as an obvious heel turn. It’s just that John Cena level only with a much smaller star.

* If they do it on-the-nose, the performances are likely to be hammy and the audience will likely cotton on. I can see his reactions either dying or turning into cheers.

* Because the AEW gauges based on performance, I think that the perception of where Cody should be is a large part of the problem. He’s got go-away heat.

Jungle Boy/Kassidy was good, HOOK crushed another guy, Wish they would put Guevara and Fenix together for a match. They would make everyone else's flippy shit look weak.

Love Codys “Im a heel who is your hero” stuff. I don’t mind him getting the belt back but feels like a stumble for Sammy.

Should have had Sammy just wear a shirt that says “Challenge me” and literally each week he’s challenged just reply with “Yes” and drop the mic.

I think Sammy suffered from too many scrappy underdog wins this reign.

The WWE have done a better job with their secondary belts than AEW has. And they’re introducing another one.

He wasn’t ready. We went into the title match against Miro with arguably zero momentum. No feuds, no dramatic babyface turn, not coming off a hot one on one angle. He’s over, sure. And he’s improved greatly in top of still having a ton of potential. Miro however was rolling. His promos were great, his matches were booked well, and he just started the vulnerability angle and taking the belt off him killed his momentum. It was a mistake from the onset.

At least with Cody it’s back on somebody who’s actually doing something character wise.

Sammy hasn't had much character since he was the one not trusting MJF in Inner Circle, which was when, about 9-10 months ago. I can't blame him though because even with a secondary title it is hard to really develop layers to a character within a faction.

If I can find the words to best describe what takes me out of Cody's matches at the moment.....I guess it just feels like he exists in an entirely separate AEW than the rest of the roster.
