-Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all-time. I really can't imagin anyone disagreeing unless you bring up Russell or Chamberlain. But MJ could create shots for himself. Put it this way: if Jesus returns and says that it's one shot to make or he goes Old testament on the world, MJ takes it.

The Brazilians consider Garrincha to have been a better player than Pele, apparently, but Maradona or George Best or the other two that get commonly mentioned with that tag.

Nah, in my opinion, there's about 20 guys that are about as good as everyone else in the list and we can't really tell. Russell, Chamberlain, MJ, Malone, Hakeem, Barkley, Larry, Magic, and some more. Really, I don't think we can come to any sort of conclusive opinion.

Well, there are a few players I'd bandy about as the top. Most of them couldn't play D very well.

Babe, Ty, Ted, Barry, Honus, Walter, Lefty, Mike S., and a few others. It's a mixed bag. Generally, offense is worth a lot more than defense, since defense also includes pitching.

Chuck Di Stefano on that 'tag' pile too. I'd still go for Pele though.

Oh, and after what I saw the other night, I'm calling Derren Brown the greatest chess player ever, that trick he did was genius.

Finally, since I know you'll all appreciate it, Michael Schumacher for the best F1 driver of all time. :p

I agree with most of those, but in situations like football and baseball, there really can't be a greatest player of all time, there can be the greatest QB or 1 Baseman of all time, but not in a general sense.

I'd rather have Maradona in his prime over Pele in his prime but bear in mind I'm basing this on clips rather than seeing them play since they were before my time.
