Rate the Game: Week 92

Let's keep the new year going, folks! Rate the Game is back yet again and thankfully, unlike with American McGee's Alice, last week's Left 4 Dead had a bit more of a player base amongst the TPWW Universe. What did that player base think of the game overall, though? Well let's bring in the newly updated list to answer that question. I'm sure it's grateful to finally get another addition after being cheated the week prior. Let's take a look....

We're still dealing with the lower levels of the list, unfortunately, as Left 4 Dead is left to share the number 59 spot with four other entries to create a 5-way tie with its 3.33 average. Game over, man. Game over.

Well, not quite. It's a new week and we can get back on track after that hiccup over having to redo Week 91. What does the bowl have in store for us now?

Boom. Right back to the Nintendo 64 with this week's title. It's Rare's hit James Bond-licensed FPS made for players with the golden controller, Goldeneye 007! Is it one of the best, if not THE best, games on the Nintendo 64 or is it an unfortunate misfire from Bond? You tell us! Let's continue to kick 2022 in the balls and rate this sucker. Until next week!

5 since I can't vote 4.5

would be 5 but PD is better.

Hail Oddjob. Destroyer of multiplayers, controllers, and friendships.

Spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on this game. I remember memorizing each level and unlocking 007 mode. The last two "hidden" levels of the game are insane on Secret Agent difficulty. Shit.... I think I recall the Facility having to be done in under 2:00 or 2:30, and then Silo having to be done in 1:30 or something similar.

This game changed nearly everything for the console shooter. It got to the point where I'd let my two older brothers have a Golden Gun and I'd have dual DD44 Dostevi's and still win. They played Quake and the lot on PC, so perhaps the analog stick didn't translate well from M&K controls.

Subsequent 007 games were never as good, though they tried. This is one game I would LOVE to get the modern day treatment. I feel like a lot of the objectives they had you do back then would have a TON more depth to them with tech available to today's developers.

Early POTY candidate right here.

Easy 5 even though I am not very good at it.

I have the "Goldeneye Reloaded" or whatever it is for PS3 and it is very good, but I would LOVE to have this game remastered somewhere. (Preferably on PC since that's what I mostly play these days.)

Lock Jaw 01-11-2022 01:56 PM

I have played it.

Used to really like it.... no other FPS was as good... even "Perfect Dark" or whatever it was that the same people made was just not good..... this one was great, though....

Giving it a 4 because it is the gold standard for sure.

Even the single player mode was fun from what I can remember....

You bring up other Bond games and I immediately thought of what was the "follow up" of sorts with Tomorrow Never Dies. It made sense as it was the second of Brosnan's movies and doing it in the fashion of Syphon Filter would've been cool but I just remember it being delayed to hell.

The problem is it got the remake treatment back in 2010. Goldeneye Reloaded for the Wii and Nintendo DS. Heard it was alright.

IO Interactive has since gotten the nod to make the next Bond game. But, ever since that announcement, they've been quiet.

drave 01-11-2022 03:46 PM

No - not talking about that one....

Sepholio 01-11-2022 06:13 PM

One of the 2 best games on the N64. Easy 5.

DAMN iNATOR 01-11-2022 10:48 PM

Wish I could say I've played it but alas, I have not.

Such an epic tune. Maybe best pause music ever.

Destor 01-15-2022 11:27 PM

if you'd only ever played console shooters this game was a bigger deal

DAMN iNATOR 01-17-2022 09:36 PM

If I end up being the only one who's never played this, does that make me a Bond villain?

Kicking back in a chair, stroking your fluffy cat and demeaning your underlings isn't so bad.

Have to say it sucks that the proposed "all Bonds" feature couldn't be implemented. Having all the Bonds shooting it out for supremacy would have been boss.
