Odd Tag Teams ?

I was thinking today about a tag team that has one member as a heel and the other as a face ..couldn't come up with a legit one?

Extending the scope of that thought, what are the queer (not gay but odd) teams that stick out to you?

#1-norm-fan 05-23-2022 04:55 PM

Sting and Luger did the face/heel team thing

Mr. Nerfect 05-23-2022 04:57 PM

Traditionally you wouldn’t get too many teams where someone is clearly a face or a heel when their partner wasn’t. The closest you probably get are teams like Luger & Sting and random teams thrown together to split up or to turn someone coming out of it.

CM Punk and Fan's unwavering fandom of him, quite the odd pairing

Strong words. Wanna talk about it?

Naw, you can just go rep my wall some more, that will show me

Crippla 05-23-2022 05:35 PM

Sting (Wolfpac) and The Giant(NWO) in 1998 as WCW tag champs even though it didn't last long...that is the closest thing I can think of for a heel/face team

xrodmuc316 05-23-2022 05:56 PM

On topic, The Miz and John Cena were tag team champions!

XL 05-23-2022 06:13 PM

They’ve used that trope where guys in a feud end up winning the titles together a few times. Surely that yielded a heel/face combo. Or are you talking specifically long term teams?

DaveWadding 05-23-2022 06:26 PM

Michaels and Austin
Dude Love and Austin

Crippla 05-23-2022 06:30 PM

Undertaker and Austin

Crippla 05-23-2022 06:31 PM

Rock and Jericho

Crippla 05-23-2022 06:32 PM

Yeah I suppose I could keep going with a few examples from XL's idea

#1-norm-fan 05-23-2022 06:36 PM

Yeah, there are plenty of examples of the tired “reluctant partners” trope. I assumed we were talking about legit willing partners who had different dispositions ala Sting and Luger.

Random example: Droz and Animal

Lock Jaw 05-23-2022 06:58 PM

The New Day.

Fabulous Freebirds.

The Jersey Triad.

Mr. Nerfect 05-23-2022 07:25 PM

When discussing “odd tag teams,” I just want to take it down the path of completely batshit teams that were just strange pairings.

Charlie Haas & Viscera, for example.

That's a great od example actually. I also found Animal and Heidenreich a very odd team and random fave turn for Heidenreich. I also want to note that the Sting/Giant team was a different situation than reluctant partners because they were willing partners at first and them splitting up when Giant turned heel was different because it had nothing to do with a feud between the two of them. They just happened to join feuding factions which is what caused them to split up. It was quite a unique scenario actually

Yeah Charlie Haas taken the cake for random pairings with strange bedfellows. Viscera, Rico, etc.

Savio 05-23-2022 10:29 PM

Mizdow is the only legit one I can remember.

Eddie guerrero and batista... I think?

Devastator and Innovator back in CHW is the first team that comes to my mind. The two were unstoppable and extremely entertaining as part of Team FTW, or Fuck The World (have to make it clear because team for the win sounds fucking retarded as you can get).
Yet despite being such a close tag team and an integral part to the tag scene in CHW and yard wrestling in general of all feds, Innovator and Devastator would constantly feud with each other and have Innovator vs Devastator matches which were really good.
Weird tag team, I cant think of another tag team in wrestling that was a cornerstone of a tag division and at the same time constantly had matches against each other.
The Video is the first Innovator/Devastator match before team FTW was even born.

CHW. The good ol days.

Rammsteinmad 05-24-2022 04:58 AM

Pretty sure Team Hell No started off as a heel/face thing didn't it? Think Bryan was the heel going into it.

XL 05-24-2022 07:20 PM

Golga and Kurgan. They were an odd team.

Bad News Gertner 05-24-2022 07:24 PM

Mikey Whipwreck and Cactus Jack

Crippla 05-24-2022 07:24 PM

I forgot The Godfather and Mark Henry in late 1999 after Henry turned heel on The Godfather and they just randomly started tagging again a few times without explanation

Helmsphere 05-24-2022 08:32 PM

Head Cheese

Crippla 05-24-2022 08:49 PM

Steve Blackman and grandmaster sexay were also an "odd" team

Bad News Gertner 05-24-2022 09:33 PM

Santino and Kozlov?

Helmsphere 05-25-2022 10:54 PM

Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2022 06:55 AM

Rico & Rikishi

Helmsphere 05-26-2022 02:56 PM

Glacier and Earnest Miller

I think that would probably qualify as reluctant partners that were fueding if you're referring to when they were tag champs against Billy and Chuck who Rico was managing. But I can't remember if they were tag partners again another time

That’s the time I’m thinking of. I don’t remember much about the reign other than Rico was secretly happy to be the champion, lol.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2022 03:21 PM

Remember when Albert & Scotty 2 Hotty were a tag team?

Bad News Gertner 05-26-2022 03:24 PM

The Hip Hop Hippo

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2022 03:32 PM

The story of Albert’s career, in kayfabe, was that he was a monster with potential that just wanted to have some fun. Scotty 2 Hotty, Brodus Clay.

Crippla 05-26-2022 03:35 PM

Yeah Albert was always just thrown in random teams/factions just to so something with him in WWE

Bad News Gertner 05-26-2022 04:03 PM

Always one of my favourites. He had a lot of hott movez.

Crippla 05-26-2022 04:29 PM

I like that bicycle kick lol

Bad News Gertner 05-26-2022 05:27 PM
