Odd Tag Teams ?
I was thinking today about a tag team that has one member as a heel and the other as a face ..couldn't come up with a legit one?
Extending the scope of that thought, what are the queer (not gay but odd) teams that stick out to you? |
Sting and Luger did the face/heel team thing
Traditionally you wouldn’t get too many teams where someone is clearly a face or a heel when their partner wasn’t. The closest you probably get are teams like Luger & Sting and random teams thrown together to split up or to turn someone coming out of it.
CM Punk and Fan's unwavering fandom of him, quite the odd pairing

Strong words. Wanna talk about it?

Sting (Wolfpac) and The Giant(NWO) in 1998 as WCW tag champs even though it didn't last long...that is the closest thing I can think of for a heel/face team
On topic, The Miz and John Cena were tag team champions!
They’ve used that trope where guys in a feud end up winning the titles together a few times. Surely that yielded a heel/face combo. Or are you talking specifically long term teams?
Michaels and Austin
Dude Love and Austin |
Undertaker and Austin
Rock and Jericho
Yeah I suppose I could keep going with a few examples from XL's idea
Yeah, there are plenty of examples of the tired “reluctant partners” trope. I assumed we were talking about legit willing partners who had different dispositions ala Sting and Luger.
Random example: Droz and Animal |
The New Day.
Fabulous Freebirds. The Jersey Triad. |
When discussing “odd tag teams,” I just want to take it down the path of completely batshit teams that were just strange pairings.
Charlie Haas & Viscera, for example. |

Mizdow is the only legit one I can remember.
Eddie guerrero and batista... I think? |

Devastator and Innovator back in CHW is the first team that comes to my mind. The two were unstoppable and extremely entertaining as part of Team FTW, or Fuck The World (have to make it clear because team for the win sounds fucking retarded as you can get). Yet despite being such a close tag team and an integral part to the tag scene in CHW and yard wrestling in general of all feds, Innovator and Devastator would constantly feud with each other and have Innovator vs Devastator matches which were really good. Weird tag team, I cant think of another tag team in wrestling that was a cornerstone of a tag division and at the same time constantly had matches against each other. The Video is the first Innovator/Devastator match before team FTW was even born. |
CHW. The good ol days.
Pretty sure Team Hell No started off as a heel/face thing didn't it? Think Bryan was the heel going into it.
Golga and Kurgan. They were an odd team.
Mikey Whipwreck and Cactus Jack
I forgot The Godfather and Mark Henry in late 1999 after Henry turned heel on The Godfather and they just randomly started tagging again a few times without explanation
Head Cheese
Steve Blackman and grandmaster sexay were also an "odd" team
Santino and Kozlov?
Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore
Rico & Rikishi
Glacier and Earnest Miller

Remember when Albert & Scotty 2 Hotty were a tag team?
The Hip Hop Hippo
The story of Albert’s career, in kayfabe, was that he was a monster with potential that just wanted to have some fun. Scotty 2 Hotty, Brodus Clay.
Yeah Albert was always just thrown in random teams/factions just to so something with him in WWE
Always one of my favourites. He had a lot of hott movez.

I like that bicycle kick lol
