What a dreadfully boring looking card.

XL 07-30-2022 03:50 PM

A few too many rematches for my liking for the 2nd biggest show of the year but I think the card is decent. Especially considering who’s available.

Lock Jaw 07-30-2022 03:53 PM

Pat McAfee and Logan Paul both working face despite both being instantly dislikeable/annoying and being very punchable.... damn

Lock Jaw 07-30-2022 03:55 PM

Wonder if there has ever been someone so consistently bad/utterly uninteresting as Baron Corbin who keeps getting featured heavily for years.....

Supreme Olajuwon 07-30-2022 04:06 PM

Who the funk took the pictures for these match graphics? They look like dog shit.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 04:28 PM

Dominik Mysterio isn’t bad and he’s very young, but I feel like his team with his father keeps Rey’s work in a box. I don’t want to see the Dominik heel turn (unless it is very artfully done), but eh. I’m not sure how liberating the No DQ stip is in tag matches, as opposed to messy. Edge should probably return here and help the faces win.

I like the idea of Bianca wanting to redeem herself against Becky at SummerSlam after what happened last year. This is in her home state too. I’m not sure if that’s how the story has been set up, but can we please get some active protagonists now that Triple H has some control, please? Bianca should win this match. It could be a direction to take Becky if she shows Bianca some respect after the match. Tie this thing up with a bow.

I’m not enthused about Lashley vs. Theory again. I don’t like Theory constantly losing, but I don’t think Lashley should lose here either. I do like that they are billing this as a rematch though. I’d probably have an exposed turnbuckle backfire on Theory allowing Lashley to retain. I think it would suit Theory’s development to have heel chicanery undo him, sending the message that he needs to continue to grow and/or leave the shenanigans behind him with Vince.

Don’t like the Liv Morgan title reign. There is potential for it to be Ronda Rousey’s “Frank Grimes” moment, with her eventually snapping even though Morgan is a bit of a bitch, but we’ll see. Ronda just winning the belt back doesn’t achieve much. I guess if the fans start booing her, that’s something. You can keep this thing going that way, I guess. I think you could also do something cute like having Ronda roll-up Morgan close to the ropes, but actively choosing not to cheat, then Morgan countering the roll-up and using the ropes because “fuck it, the title’s on the line.” This is the least interesting match for me.

Pat McAfee is tremendous. Corbin is not the most exciting act in the world, but he rarely puts a foot wrong. This should be “good” at least. I’m glad they actually did this feud — I was calling for it since around Hell in a Cell. Corbin could win, because he’s a “real wrestler,” but McAfee has something. Have Corbin toss McAfee from the ring constantly at the start and mock him for thinking he belongs. The finish can be an elbow off the top through Corbin on an announce table with McAfee crawling back inside to get a countout win, playing off that. But fans bitch and moan about countouts, so you can have McAfee roll back out, want to beat Corbin in the ring, have the match go an unnecessary extra innings, then have McAfee squeak it out with a roll-up.

I want to see Corbin change gimmicks soon. He should be settled down by a lot of his losses. He becomes “Humble Corbin” and plays a possibly insincere guy trying to be the most down-to-earth and respectful babyface.

I’ve grown to appreciate Jeff Jarrett, but his involvement here is just weird to me. Is he that big of a deal in Nashville? Having a face referee would imply a face win, unless something happens to compromise Jarrett or they do something with him coming out of this. I’m predicting some heel shenanigans go “missed” by Jarrett, leading to Street Profits having some suspicious about the situation they can play out on Raw.

Have a morbid curiosity about Logan Paul vs. Miz. It’s probably going to deliver. I think it’s too early to beat Paul and disengage whatever fans he brings over. I’d give Logan extended shine at the start. Some early attempts to interfere by Ciampa are anticipated and handled by Logan. At some point Ciampa gets him, Miz takes over. A comeback by Logan is cutoff by Ciampa, the referee sends him to the back. Maryse is still out there helping Miz, Jake Paul gets involved and costs Miz the match.

I’m thinking the Last Man Standing match is there to be a brutal classic. It wouldn’t shock me if there was blood, with this being the main event in a new era. It would be “called for,” as opposed to being done because it’s a day that ends in “y.” I’m feeling Roman wanting to do this on his own. He gets his ass kicked all over the place. I’m not sure if he will get fan sympathy, but Roman has to come back on Brock. The Usos maybe try to get involved and Roman kicks them out. I do think Roman retains with a number of Spears. Don’t necessarily think this will be a face turn, but I think it will be a moment designed to further cement the idea that he does truly deserve to be champion.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 04:31 PM

I actually don’t think that would be a bad card order either.

DaveWadding 07-30-2022 05:01 PM

I'll watch Becky/Bianca, but no interest in anything else.

Fignuts 07-30-2022 05:55 PM

Bianca vs Becky will be fire.

No interest in anything else.

I'd feel a little differently if they had done anything to freshen up the roman vs brock rivalry but they just threw on a gimmick matchamd called it good.

Fignuts 07-30-2022 05:55 PM

Like as much as brock and roman have fought its never really escalated at all. It barely even feels personal.

Sepholio 07-30-2022 05:59 PM

Yeah Brock isn't who I viewed as Romans "career" rival. That was always Bray imo.

Anyone but you Roman.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:02 PM

It does feel like a series of matches at this point. I don’t hate it, but it does feel like something from Japan or the like. But I’m also glad they haven’t thrown some bullshit sports entertainment hoopla over it. Roman got the win at Mania, but Brock isn’t dissuaded and thinks he can take Roman. WrestleMania was about Roman winning there, because it goes back to him failing at Mania 31. But even though he won that personal war, he hasn’t won the real war.

That’s the story to me. I don’t know how much of that has been conveyed on-screen. I kind of wish this was just No Holds Barred. But I guess they feel there’s something they can do with LMS.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:03 PM

Glad Bray Wyatt’s gone. Early cult leader Bray had potential. It’s done. It’s over.

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:04 PM

I think maybe another reason Roman/Brock on their own doesn't seem that big of a deal is because that feud is always better when Seth is involved too.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:05 PM

The Fiend is one of the worst things they have ever done. It was at a main event level too.

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:05 PM

Noid you smell like cheese.

You’re better than this.

Seth is good in the ring. He’s got good chemistry with both guys. They’ve been very careful to hold off on Roman beating him. I don’t mind him occasionally sticking his neck in. But Brock/Roman is, at its core, a fine story. This stretch of it is just hampered to internet fans by it just being announced.

Feeding The Fiend to Seth, and even worse, Oldberg...it destroyed the character. They should have kept him away from the title with that gimmick and booked him more as a special attraction that destroys people who need to be taken down a few notches for whatever reason at the time.

But of course when the crowd got behind him they went into OMGURD GIB TITLE NAO mode and when that didn't pan out they murdered him instead of putting him in the role he should have been in.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:09 PM

Ugh, I just realized that a likely finish for the main event is Seth helping Roman win because he thinks he can take Roman.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:10 PM

Goldberg > The Fiend

slik 07-30-2022 06:10 PM

My prediction is Seth gets added to the main-event and the match ends with two people being the 'last man' standing' one so they can split the titles again.

Other predictions:

Lashley wins via Theory getting DQ'd or counted out

Bianca beats Becky

Jeff Jarrett screws the Street Profits, intentionally or not, with a guitar shot to the head, letting Uso's win

Liv beats Ronda

Judgment Day beats Mysterios and it ends either w/ Dominic turning or Edge returning

McAfee beats Corgan

Paul beats Miz

Brock and Roman is boring. It's been boring for a long time. It's final boss vs final boss finisher spam. They both have better characters right now, but even so, it's still the same boring match up. Nothing feels different. Definitely doesn't feel better. It's like "Uhg, this again". The only worse match up is either one of them vs Oldberg.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:11 PM

My only issue with Goldberg’s Universal Title runs is that they follow the same pattern of him winning them in that February slot and dropping them at Mania.

Give me heel Goldberg who acts like he’s the biggest star in wrestling, please.

Fignuts 07-30-2022 06:13 PM

I don't even think its anyone's fault it's just the nature of brock. What makes him unique and popular also limits him in a way. People like him because he's a loner who handles his business himself and doesn't need friends. But without allies theres no one for the bloodline to attack to make things more personal and build heat.

And you can't really have them beat up lesnar in gangbeat downs to gain sympathy as an underdog because his whole appeal is that he's the antithesis of an underdog. He bulldozes through multiple people at once.

He really works better in a heel role, even if a lot of fans are cheering him anyway.

The moving graphics look better -- they are doing a pinball theme for the graphics this year -- so the wrestlers are supposed to be lit up like a pinball just bounced off of them

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:14 PM

Either way they have to get one or both titles off of Roman pronto. Or else we are about to recycle the same feuds again, starting with Drew, then Lashley, then Orton if he's back and then back to Brock.

slik 07-30-2022 06:15 PM

I take that back, the moving graphics are pretty bad too (but I do like the pinball theme...though I'm not sure why Nashville made them think of pinball)

Is it true they did Sheamus and Drew last night on Smackdown instead of tonight because they do brawling so good together it would take away from the main event

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:18 PM

lol Logans face in that graphic. Looks like someone walked in on him dropping a sweaty deuce and he's mad about the violation of his privacy.

Yes. Yes that happened.

They gave them a 30 minute match on SD last night, twas a good brawl

Drew won and has earned a title shot at CLASH at the CASTLE in the UK, SD ended with Brock and Drew having a staredown

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2022 06:20 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised if Seth/Riddle still happens. The angle on Raw sounds like the perfect go-home. I can see Triple H taking it away and then adding it as more bang for your buck.

They’ve advertised a Last Man Standing Match. If they add Seth, I think it would have to be a three-way version of that. Not impossible — a first for them, right? I would honestly just perfect two great one-on-one matches.

Thought about a countout for Theory. Would be classic “he’s cashing in” stuff. I dunno. Too on-the-nose. People hate countouts. Just do the failed heel stuff and maybe have Ziggler take the briefcase from ringside after the match to further that story.

The more I think about it, the more I am down for Ronda to win the SD Title and be all “What? Why are you booing me?” when the crowd complains. Perfect finish for that would be a victory roll attempt by Liv countered ala Bret/Owen at Mania X.

slik 07-30-2022 06:22 PM

Now Vince McMahon would 100% book Drew to lose in the main-event of the first stadium show in the UK since 1992...but I'm not so sure HHH would

That and the Drew/Brock staredown ending SD makes me think the show ends with a title split tonight and Seth getting added to the main event somehow (Riddle is not really injured, it was a storyline decision to drop Seth vs Riddle last minute from the PPV) so that Drew can beat Brock for the title at CLASH at the CASTLE.

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:25 PM

How do you do a title split with it being last man standing though?

I don't think Brock and Roman have good chemistry in the ring at all. They've had one match I think was ok and the rest were clunkers to me.

They just don't mesh well and the match has been done 75 times it seems.

Have two men standing at the end via adding Seth...Brock and Roman both stand at the end

Sepholio 07-30-2022 06:26 PM

Feel like thats a real hard stipulation to work around without the inclusion of the MITB briefcase.

Drew is the next big defense at Clash at the Castle. Drew’s in the UK. Heyman’s promos can center around Drew carrying the company during the pandemic. The WWE needs worker ants like Drew McIntyre. Guys who fight with their heart instead of their head. But what’s Drew going to do when he lets down the hearts of fans when he can’t get it done against the Head of the Table at CATC?

I can see Drew taking the belts there. But if he doesn’t, you’ve got Survivor Series, which Reigns may not be working. But if he does — Elimination Tag. Then you’ve got a Royal Rumble title defense, which can be against anyone. Then it’s Mania time.

Oh, you’ve got the two Saudi shows too. That could be HIAC against Brock. A match against Edge, AJ, Lashley, etc.
