The Last of Us (HBO)

Making an "official" discussion thread since it seems that enough of us are watching this thing.

Show really just giving me one more thing to be paranoid about..... zombie movies/stuff, sure they can be scary, but I know it isn't really "practical"....

But this I feel like could actually happen so makes me more nervous.....

No game spoilers in here please unless you mark specifically as a game spoiler and put it in tags....

Otherwise, discuss your thoughts and theories here....

What if

It is all just a prequel to Super Mario and what we are seeing is the birth of the Mushroom Kingdom?

Helmsphere 01-25-2023 02:44 AM

If you squint hard enough, Pedro Pascal does look like Chris Pratt.

slik 01-25-2023 01:49 PM

Opening scenes of both eps 1 and 2 gave me anxiety

Good show

For some reason I get him confused with Barry Pepper but I am half blind

I never played the game, but read the story. They're doing a helluva job. The entire show, if it continues on course, will make you waaaaay more uncomfortable, and that's the point.

Does a better job at looking at humanity post-apocalypse than TWD

slik 01-30-2023 12:40 AM

Nick Offerman deserves an Emmy nom for this episode

:'(

Lock Jaw 01-30-2023 12:52 AM

Emotional episode.... different than the first two for sure.... wonder if there will be more "one off" episodes exploring the history of people/settings that Joel and Ellie encounter....

Lock Jaw 01-30-2023 09:38 AM

Biggest question of last night's episode though: Ellie has never been in a car, is naive to a lot of other stuff of the "larger world".... but how does she instantly know what a cassette tape is and what to do with it?!

xrodmuc316 01-30-2023 11:59 PM

I love Anna Torv for the record. She has a lifetime pass from me after Fringe, not that she needs it, because she is still killing it!

I've never been on a cruise or a boat, but I know what a life jacket is and how to use it.

Lock Jaw 02-01-2023 11:13 AM

You comparing a life jacket with a cassette tape?
Cassettes would have already been obsolete by 2003. Pretty sure life jackets would have still been around.

ron the dial 02-01-2023 11:16 AM

cassettes were definitely not obsolete in 2003. plenty of cars on the road at the time (including mine) had a cassette player. i still buy cassettes to this day (although yes now i am very much in the minority on that one).

not that it matters. this level of nitpicking in shit is so annoying to me. get over it, nerd.

this shit is way more bothersome than the cassette thing to me but STILL WHO GIVES A FUCK. i'm not watching this show for geographic accuracy.

ron the dial 02-01-2023 11:25 AM

that being said i've been loving this show so far, especially the last episode. fleshed things out a bit while bringing a great contained love story into the mix. i was hoping for more nick offerman in the show when i found out he was on it, but this was too good for me to bothered that he won't return.

it really was one of the most beautiful love stories i've seen on a tv show, and the fact that they put all of it into one episode is crazy.

Would you have preferred an Interrobang?

ron the dial 02-01-2023 12:30 PM

Lol i don't care either I just laughed out loud when I saw it. I liked these games and didn't want a tv show but I've been watching out of curiosity and it's good, fine, nice storytelling, just viewing it on its own merit

ron the dial 02-01-2023 05:07 PM

i was just on one this morning and for whatever reason this thread set me off...

Lock Jaw 02-01-2023 05:11 PM

You just need a good Interrobang: ‽

OssMan 02-01-2023 10:00 PM

I forgot to say I am watching for geo graphic accuracy btw

Lock Jaw 02-01-2023 10:11 PM

OssMan watches TV with a stack of atlases by his side.

He could still return as the show is not linear, and he would be just as Swanson as ever!

xrodmuc316 02-01-2023 11:42 PM

Also they added a in remembrance to Annie Wersching to the beginning of the 3rd episode, which is nice. I never played the game but I bet she was awesome in at.

Wasn’t it you who watched some Welsh guy walk right across Wales or some such thing?
You like knowing the route for sure.

Lock Jaw 02-05-2023 10:52 PM

SPOILER: show
Heartwarming seeing/hearing Joel laugh and smile.

Lock Jaw 02-13-2023 11:41 PM

Have my days all mixed up so I thought today was Sunday, so waited until tonight to watch the latest episode... which was apparently released on Friday anyways....

SPOILER: show
Damn @ everyone dying... this show is like The Walking Dead but if it was just Rick and Carl and everyone they meet or interact with dies fairly quickly and they move on to the next story

Lock Jaw 02-19-2023 11:13 PM

Great episode this week.... emotional....

Lock Jaw 02-26-2023 10:23 PM

Why does every episode gotta be a punch to the feeling factory?

drave 02-27-2023 10:36 AM

That's the game

Seanny One Ball 02-27-2023 01:58 PM

Is it nearly done yet? I’m going to watch it once it’s all available.

drave 02-27-2023 02:46 PM

Not seen a single episode, but read they are doing a 1:1 of the game? I dunno.

Here's the entire story, with gameplay, no annoying commentary. 6 hours
