Oh no:(

I've always maintained that Terry is the greatest of all time

DAMN iNATOR 08-23-2023 05:45 PM

RIP to the Funker

Splaya 08-23-2023 05:52 PM

RIP

I always remember going back and watching the shit that he did in WWF and then once YouTube and other streaming services became available, I went back and saw more of his work.

One of a kind would be an understatement and a disservice to Funk :(

GD 08-23-2023 05:54 PM

This one hurts. Terry Funk was one of my favorites growing up. RIP :(

I really enjoyed his I Quit match with Ric Flair.

Little before my time (I didn't have a lot of access to other promotions outside of WWF in Australia during the early 90s) - any match recommendations?

I'm not going to say RIP for Terry. Not out of any form of disrespect, mind you. The opposite, in fact. I just find it hard to believe Funk is going to merely job to Death once and not have any sort of comeback. The man will convince the world that an actual "zombie apocalypse" is happening because he once again "unretires"... this time, from the afterlife. If Macho Man's elbow drop is what stopped the rapture, Terry is just doing a run-in with a chair and/or a branding iron... then, for the hell of it, he'll decide to do a moonsault at his age to keep the world safe from the end of days even longer.

Terry Funk will never die, and there's a part of me that believes that statement isn't just figurative.

RIP Terry Funk

I have fond memories of Chainsaw Charlie as a kid and teaming with Cactus Jack in the WWF. Definitely not what he is best known/remembered for, but these are my fond memories.

Sepholio 08-24-2023 01:36 AM

Until I hear God took a 3 count after a Texas Piledriver I refuse to believe this.

Rammsteinmad 08-24-2023 06:13 AM

Damn, RIP.

Looks like the Funker has finally retired for good. :(

There was a question that had been bounced around in the past about a "desert island wrestler". Basically the theory being you're stuck on a desert island and given the basic life necessities and some forms of entertainment, but wrestling-wise all you can have is the entire recorded body of work of one wrestler.

Terry Funk is very possibly the best candidate for that. Through Funk's body of work you'd get to see so much great shit and so many legends. Nobody like him.

Terry Funk encapsulates the whole of American professional wrestling in a way that I don't know if I feel anyone else ever has or ever can again. It's not just the length of his career but the fact that he willingly participated and engaged with the changing face of professional wrestling in the '90s rather than lock himself into the legend box and did it in a way that cemented his legacy for generations to come. Embracing the eccentric side of wrestling like ECW and later on in his indy career was something else.

I still can’t think of him as retired. Easily one of the greatest ever, possibly THE greatest ever. There’s legitimate brilliance in the way he worked.

thekrow 08-25-2023 01:12 PM

RIP lost a real one who contribured so much influence to modern hardcore wrestlers from the pro's to the yard's.

Destor 08-28-2023 02:23 PM

A great loss. His mind had been gone for a few years and when it went some of the best advice a worker could ever get went with it. There is no replacing him.

Seanny One Ball 09-04-2023 05:17 PM

Incredible innings given the shit he put his body through for sixty odd years. Crazy.

I always liked him, mostly due to Beyond The Mat and his Chainsaw Charlie days. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I really took time to look his classics up. A great man is gone but not forgotten.
