Best Rapper Of All Time(Lyrically)

Personally I say Notorious B.I.G. followed closely by Jay-Z

DaveWadding 06-04-2004 04:48 PM

what the fuck! YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Eminem couldn't hold a candle to any of those other guys.

Supreme Olajuwon 06-04-2004 04:50 PM

if the poll is for best lyricist of all time, why is the best lyricist of all time not a choice?

Supreme Olajuwon 06-04-2004 04:51 PM

thats Mos Def btw

DaveWadding 06-04-2004 05:07 PM

I was gonna say Talib, myself. :$

KeyloBrown 06-04-2004 05:11 PM

Mos Def and/or Talib Kweli and/or Common and/or Black Thought

Followed closely by the Icy Hot Stuntaz

el fregadero 06-04-2004 05:50 PM

Beastie Boys.

el fregadero 06-04-2004 05:50 PM

Or Zack de la Rocha.

asphyXy 06-04-2004 05:57 PM

Scott Ian

Silent 06-04-2004 06:46 PM

Mos Def or Talib Kweli are my choice for favorite. Besides that, Nas and Tupac.

Downunder 06-04-2004 08:30 PM

Ice T

Or

The Streets

KeyloBrown 06-04-2004 08:55 PM

who exactly is the streets? Aren't they a British rap group or some shit.

Marty 06-04-2004 09:13 PM

Streets is Mike Skinner's band.

If I wanted to sound legit I'd say Q-Tip or DJ Yoda are the best lyrically, if not in delvery. However, I'm afraid that I can't pretend to be cool just for the sake of it... so I've got to say that Eminem is the best lyricist I've ever heard. I know he's mainstream so it's uncool to say it, but you can't deny that he is damn good.

Anyway, the most slept on rapper of all time is from Kansas City, Missouri. He goes by the name of Tech N9ne, and if he's not the best rapper ever, he's easily top five, IMHO.

Eminem is amazing, though. Way better lyricist than Jay-Z, in response to that comment about him not being able to hold a candle to the guys on that list. Need proof? Go pick up Jay-Z's The Blueprint and listen to "Renegades". Eminem murders Jay-Z on his own album.

Honorable mention to Kanye West. He's clever as all hell.

Do you know what "lyrically" means?

lol I was thinking the same thing. The poll is shit so I choose not to take part.

SukkaChump 06-04-2004 10:20 PM

Nas all the way, i mean in the song "get yourself a gun" he claims he was crowned the best one, so.. it must be true *nodding*

If Em could carry that consistently through a whole album (or even a WHOLE SONG), then I would be impressed. So he can beat Jay in 16, Jay could beat him in 64 EASY.

The Infamous 06-04-2004 11:56 PM

The thing is wit the Em/Jay "Renegades" song. Its really not Jay's song. The original is Em and Royce Da 5'9. On Jay "Renegades" Em's lyrics are the same as the original . I dont see all this hatin on EM. The dude is pretty good I mean just cuz he's mainstream no one likes him. If anyone who doesnt like him heard anyone of the mixtape and before mainstream shit theyed know he's sick as fuck. And DS the poll is not bullshit those are the best rappers I could think of. But it is my fault I left off Mos Def, Common, and Talib. I am a fan of them but they arent diverse thats why I didnt mention them. They tend to be on the same stuff. Pac can go anywhere with his lyrics as can Em. Jay is usually looked upon for the shit he's known for and thats the singles. People dont really look into much else. "Meet The Parents" and "You Must Love Me" proved that Jay is diverse. BIG is so sick you have to put him on the list. Nas though I dont really like when he tries to go pop like he did wit "You Owe Me" because it just doesnt fit. But when he does its sick. And for Rakim he created the style most rappers use today. All the rappers on the poll credit him as an influence. I mean damn you guys are sayin the poll is shit like I tossed Chingy or 50 Cent on there. Im no fool I know my hip hop.

Does the word "diverse" happen to mean alcohol, hoes, and bling to you?

Dazz 06-05-2004 12:12 AM

I don't see why Eminem is there :nono: and I can't believe he has more votes then Pac. Pac is the best rapper their is IMO, great lyracist and his flow was off tha Heazy.

This is tough. They are all great in their own right.

And yes, Eminem STILL out-rapped Jay-Z on "Renegades". Even if it was originally for Royce.

Savio 06-05-2004 01:43 PM

Jay-z sucks....Eminems old stuff is good, but him today :\

No, no, no! Everything from Infinite to 8-Mile was good. He's had some good guest appearances, but overall he's been :| since then. I just think he's gotten lazy, but then again, if I had his money I would be lazy also.

Have you heard D-12 World? Or any of that stuff from Straight From Tha Lab? I think he's still got it.

And I do know what lyrically means, I just thought I wouldn't have to say that those people were lyrically sound. I thought it was implied by the thread. I was just explaining other things I liked about those rappers as well. I just don't consider Zach De La Roca a rapper, and I could've sworn this thread said "Best Rapper Of All Time(Lyrically)". Don't get me wrong, I loved Rage, but I never found a single album of theirs in the rap section.

Dazz 06-05-2004 03:44 PM

I know, but Wadding quoted my post so I couldn't be bothered to change it after it was quoted.

Straight from the Lab is good, he has some great lines in We As American's, but compared to Pac and Biggie he is nothing, even Jay Z has better lyrics, the stuff he raps about in 99 problems like the the police part is brilliant.

Seriously, just because Eminem outclassed Jay Z in Renegade, doesn't mean that overall he is a better rapper, Eminem tends to do his best stuff on other peoples albums IMO. Like Say My Name on Xzibits's Album, Hey Lady on Obie's album and Patiently waiting on Fiddy's album.

Anybody Thrilla 06-05-2004 04:24 PM

Well, I have this Eminem collection of a bunch of his old stuff and underground stuff. 5 discs. It's called "Eminem: The Lost Anthology 93-03", and there are some ridiculous lyrics on it. If you get the chance check out this song called "Hellbound". It's Em with two other guys (who I'm sorry to say I'd never heard of before that, but they're damn good). That's just one example. The 5 disc set is FULL of Eminem going lyrically apesh</>it.

I'm not bashing Jay-Z, I'm simply saying that if anybody thinks that he doesn't even deserve to be mentioned with some of the other guys is sorely mistaken. Everybody on that list is amazing. I'd still take Eminem over any of them, though.

The other guys on "Hellbound" are J-Black and Masta Ace.

I suggest you look up some of their stuff. They are really good.

And that was one of the first Eminem songs I heard also.

Dope sh</>it.

If anybody is interested in the Eminem collection that I bought, I got it here. It's bootleg as all hell, and I'm sure the guys behind it just downloaded all the stuff and put it together in a nice little order, and it's 40 bucks, but I wasn't disappointed.

Vega 06-05-2004 04:39 PM

Tupac, followed closely by Notorious BIG.

IMO.

Anybody Thrilla 06-05-2004 04:40 PM

Oh yeah, another thought I just had...where's 8 Ball through all this?

Esoteric 06-05-2004 04:46 PM

tupac and biggie if u r looking at a commerical stand point there are many other great ones such as slug from atmosphere and eyedea. also there is canibus who in my opinon is the most under rated rapper he held his own against em and ll. chino xl is also ill some of his lyrics r so raw and also witty that u can not help to like them. there are also honorable mentions that go to Nas who did beat Jay z in their beef and illmatic is the blueprint for hip hop. also to company flow
So if i was to vote for greatest rapper i would say 2pac cause he constanlty grew and in some ways he contradicted himself. He had the ability to flow party, gangsta, love, hate and that death shit. but the song that helped me to chose this has to be dear mama which always brings a tear to my eye when i here it. the passion and emotion that he shows his growth as an artist and elevated him in my opinion to a legend status

No, but really they need to go to other shit. If I wanted to do one where it acknowledge rappers who only rap about alcohol, hoes and bling Id have put Chingy, Cam'ron, Ludacris(although he's kinda sick) and every rapper from both the West and South coasts.
