JBL comments /Howard Stern on JBL
 

Howard Stern commented on the Bradshaw controversy and while he was commenting on it, he got several bits of information wrong. Stern went on to mention that wrestling is big in other places besides America and said obviously there are idiots everywhere who follow it (thanks Stern).

- He then started to tell the story and mention that Layfield wrestles under the name "Eddie Guerrero" and that he is a bad guy that riles up the crowd. He then described what he did in Germany and how it got him fired from CNBC as a financial analyst (which they joked about obviously). He then took up Layfield’s side and said that what he did was scripted because everything in wrestling is scripted (wrong again) and that he should not be held accountable because he is an actor who went by WWE's script. Stern was later told that he was wrestling Eddie Guerrero and that his name is Bradshaw.

- Obviously, the WWE did not tell Bradshaw to do what he did in Munich. It was his choice to do it. Had he been told to go out there and salute Hitler, Stern would have made a valid point.


Today's Washington Post has a story on John Bradshaw Layfield's Nazi salute in Munich this past weekend. It's a very good read with quotes from Bradshaw about the incident.

"They hung me out to dry," Layfield told The TV Column.

"I was playing a character. It's the same as Vin Diesel playing a Nazi."

Layfield insists he's not an anti-Semite and says he made the gestures to incite the German audience to root for his opponent, Eddie Guerrero, during the Munich match.

"I'm a bad guy [on WWE]. I'm supposed to incite the crowd. I've done [the Nazi gestures] for decades. I really didn't think anything of it -- I know how bad it is, I've lived [in Germany]. I've been to Dachau, seen those places where they exterminated millions of Jews."

I've been to Dachau, Belsen, Auschwitz and a bunch of other places.
I lived in Berlin for 2 years when the wall was still up.
I've lived in Germany for 8 years of my life.

As for Bradshaw,

If he'd been to those places, felt the atmosphere, seen the memorials, the graves, then under no circumstances would he be doing anything that could be remotely linked to the Nazi party.
Those visits were something I'll never ever forget as long as I live.
Obviously he has.
Next time he goes to visit somewhere, he should actually look, listen and learn, find out the lessons that can be learnt from those who went before, and respect what others can teach, instead of taking a couple of snaps and wearing the 'Ive been to Belsen' T-shirt.
The horrors that happened in these places should never be forgotten.

Arseholes like that who use it as an excuse to get people to cheer at a wrestling match, and then moan that he's been a scapegoat deserve to get fired, and more.

Anybody else think that JBL's days are numbered in the WWE.

His actions have given the WWE a bad reputation now throughout Germany and I wouldnt doubt elsewhere in the world. This can only have a negative effect on Vince's business and Im sure he's not going to like whats about to happen one bit.

there is a bit of difference from a gay wedding protest to a nazi protest. Especially if you have a whole country in an uproar over this. IMagine If Germany boycotted WWE. Its media do you think thats what vince wants? Millions of dollars lost over this? JUst to get some Media? I dont know if youve noticed or not but the WWE has had more than enough media to get over and popularized. Vince has The Rock getting media and everytime hes annouced its usally WWE's the Rock. Vince has WWE stores set up through out canada and America. He releases 1 to 2 games a year/ a dvd a month all in which are commercialy advertised. Vince wants positive media not negative media.

I will say this though...what if Chris Benoit or Chris Jericho did that. I know what it's like to be the heel in a match and your partner is down and you need to fill in some space with alot of boos. I think it is disgracful, however I don't think many of you know what it's like being in character and wrestling with your adrenaline rushing and everyone watching you...sometimes you do things without thinking...I think he should be repremanded...and this will taint his career...however I would ask that we think about him as a person and not as a boring wrestler...somehow I think if Lance Storm had done this we might be able to forgive him a bit quicker.

Again I am not sticking up for him or saying what he did was right or even excusable...just posing as the Devil's advicate I guess.

Problem is, this is certainly the sort of thing that crosses the line from "heel" into "ratings killer." The question is, will it? Or will it draw more attention to the WWE?

They would be just as horrible as Bradshaw if they did it. Kurt Angle could do it. BRET HART HIMSELF could do it and it wouldn't be any different. It might even be worse, because we have high respect for these guys, and it'd plummet faster than my IQ during a Dark Kane post if they did such heinous actions.

Bradshaw's such an idiot... his excuses for this act are like his scripted excuses when he gave Mrs. Guerrero a heart attack: blatantly shallow and completely stupid. I doubt he's even sorry.

One of the things that I don't think I got across earlier:

Bradshaw did what he did and he did it in bad taste.
Now regardless of whether he was told to do it, he's done it before, or whatever.
What really pissed me off reading that article was that he refuses to take responsibility for his actions.
He just whines and bitches about how he's a scapegoat.
Time to grow up John Layfield!

If you want to be a big boy, you've got to be responsible for your actions, and you ain't holding up your hands and saying sorry.

As we reported yesterday, CNBC cancelled all relationships between John Bradshaw Layfield due to his incorporating Nazi mannerisms into his ring work during a match on 6/5 against Eddie Guerrero in Munich, Germany (which, it should again be noted is illegal to do in that country).

WWE management apparently found out about the news regarding CNBC and JBL yesterday afternoon at the Smackdown! tapings. Vince McMahon was said to have been very angry about it. He surprisingly wasn't angry at Bradshaw for doing it, but was angry at CNBC for reacting so “heavy-handedly” to Bradshaw's behaviour. Acording to sources within WWE, Bradshaw won't be “dealt with” by the company. In other words, WWE have no plans to punish him. However, as we posted here yesterday, WWE.com posted a statement regarding the incident. In fact, there was a feeling among a number of employees that the only reason that the statement was even put up on the company website was because WWE was trying to keep Bradshaw from being let go by CNBC, but I can only say that is just people’s opinion at this time.

Speaking of Bradshaw, it should be noted that CNBC received thousands of calls and emails from people calling for them to take action over what Bradshaw did. They were really left with no choice but to let him go, especially when you consider what he did broke German law (not to mention the laws of common sense and decency).

I'll be on the lookout for Fire JBL signs at Bad Blood, and I hope there's thousands of them!
