The Stone Roses self-titled voted best British album of all time
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3823983.stm
"The Stone Roses' self-titled 1989 debut album has been voted the best British album of all time in a Sunday newspaper poll. The Observer Music Monthly poll of 100 musicians and critics voted the album ahead of The Beatles' Revolver (1966). " ----------------- I know we all love album polls. I just thought this was interesting because it's a good call for an all time greatest album, yet I wonder how many people here actually have it, or have listened to it. |
I've listened to the whole album. Not really my cup of tea but it's a good all round album.
Random useless knowledge if anyone knows much about Ian Brown, then they know that his guitarist is called Aziz. My band supported him and he is amazing live. Check out his stuff. |
I can't say I've heard it but I'm skeptical.
You were crying about not having any CDs to buy too. You can get it for pretty cheap.
Even if you don't consider it the greatest ever, it's still great. One of my favourites. The American version of the release has a couple of quality extra songs. |
I shall check it out, don't worry. Just for all the huge bands we've had since the 60s, I wouldn't really think of the stone roses as up there with them.
I own precisely 3 of those albums. Surprise, surprise, they're the Lep Zep ones...
Fools Gold rocks.
I have 15 of those albums, in your face Baird
I have one of them. :$
Where was Number of the Beast on that list?
Is there a full list up?
I'm one shy of a quarter of that list.
still surprised that the prodigy didn't manage to get on there
I'm utterly surprised at the lack of Queen. Some of their albums were total tripe, but others were incredible.
yeah, queen too actually
I'm DLing the Stone Roses album (or trying to...), but I don't really think I was impressed by 'em before.
Chances are you won't be impressed now just because a bunch of journos and indie singers hyped the album up a bit. Worth a try, however.
Personally, I always had it in my head that the Stone Roses were a medicore 80s band, until I actually bought the album second hand for about €5 and released it is fucking brilliant. If nothing else, I Am The Resurrection is the ultimate pub sing-along song. Also, Mask, what Progidy album would you have on any such list? I have Music for the Jilted Generation and...the one before that, and I wouldn't have either of them on any lists. |
Well, if I can't even remember the band, it makes me want to listen again, and make sure I'm not judging on a false impression.
I'll give them a shot, and I might be wrong. |
Music For The Jilted Generation is a great album.
I love the fact that some of the panel could have put there on albums on the list. :)
95. Dizzee Rascal, Boy In Da Corner??????
I doubt it. |
Cmon are they having a laugh, Even Mosely Shoals by Ocean Colour Scene was better.
No one ever heard of Aziz?
Lol, I'm trying to get some fame here guys. :) |
I have 4 or 5 of those (read: Beatles, Floyd)
Been one of my favourite albums for about 3 years now its great.
