Biggest dissapointments

Movies that you walked into the theatre (or watched at home) thinking would be great but were total let-downs

Eyes Wide Shut
The Godfather, Part III
The Straight Story
Kill Bill, Vol. 1
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Hudsucker Proxy
Barry Lyndon
Forrest Gump
The Untouchables

91 06-21-2004 01:55 PM

Taxi Driver and The Omen. Again.

Danny Electric 06-21-2004 01:59 PM

The Lord Of The Ring films
Star Wars episode 1 and 2
Daredevil
League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Exorcist

OssMan 06-21-2004 02:10 PM

Hulk

AareDub 06-21-2004 04:41 PM

A.I. Artificial Intelligence

Boondock Saint 06-21-2004 09:08 PM

A.I.
Hulk (didn't have high hopes for it really but still)
Pitch Black
Matrix Reloaded (after that, I didn't care about 3)
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (not bad, but not as good as I was hoping)
Men In Black II
City of God
Kids
The Lost World
2001: A Space Odyssey
Magnolia
Windtalkers
Cabin Fever
Texas Chainsaw Masscare 2003
Jackie Brown

HeartBreakMan2k 06-21-2004 09:12 PM

Pearl Harbor. I had just saw Enemy at the Gates (which i thought was great) and everyone was billing Pearl Harbor to be the greatest movie of all time, I thought it kind of sucked.

Boondock Saint 06-21-2004 09:29 PM

Yeah another vote to Pearl Harbor. And speaking of Micheal Bay, Bad Boys II as well.

loopydate 06-21-2004 11:04 PM

Hulk
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Vanilla Sky
Daredevil (though my hopes weren't as high as for "Hulk." Especially since they cast Affleck as Murdoch)

Boomer 06-21-2004 11:57 PM

Animatrix

Vega 06-22-2004 12:25 AM

Punch Drunk Love

The Miz 06-22-2004 12:39 AM

Yeah A.I. is another one

Triple A 06-22-2004 12:42 AM

The Usual Suspects
Repulsion

A bunch more probably. Too lazy to think.

#1-norm-fan 06-22-2004 05:19 AM

Vanilla Sky
The Exorcist
Scary Movie
Not Another Teen Movie
Con Air
Eraserhead
Signs

The Mask 06-22-2004 06:30 AM

I enjoyed punch drunk love when I saw it, but that was before everyone was talking about it. I didn't see what was so hugely amazing about it, but that's just me.

LOTR stuff was pretty crap.
Star wars films are horrible.
Matrix reloaded was boring.

DaveWadding 06-22-2004 08:26 AM

Scarface.

Shaggy 06-22-2004 10:16 AM

Hulk
Signs
Matrix Reloaded
Freddy Got Fingered
Malubus Most Wanted
Blair Witch Project
Jurassic Park 3

MrMeJW 06-22-2004 07:40 PM

A.I.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Spiderman
Signs

I paid to see these movies in the theater and walked out early.

Boondock Saint 06-22-2004 08:14 PM

Ya, Blair Witch as well. Heard good early buzz about it. Then it ended and I was like :wtf:

#1-norm-fan 06-22-2004 09:19 PM

I liked The Blair Witch Project. :-\

John la Rock 06-22-2004 10:12 PM

Troy
The Godfather Part III
A.I. - Artificial Intelligence
Once apon a time in America
Hulk
Daredevil
Matrix Revolutions
Pearl Harbour

I agree

Boondock Saint 06-23-2004 05:58 AM

Add Mulholland Drive to my list.

Kid Robb 06-23-2004 09:02 AM

Bowling For Columbine

For all I'd heard it was cracked up to be, I thought it was relatively tame :-\

TheNamelessOne 06-23-2004 01:48 PM

Matrix Revolutions
The Usual Suspects (After someone told me what happened in the end, I didn't find it that much of a good plot twist)
Red Dragon
Donnie Darko
Monsters Inc.

ColdwaVer 06-23-2004 03:52 PM

Spiderman. It was good and I did enjoy it, but I couldn't help but feel that someone had swallowed the first ten years of Spiderman mythos and vomited it onto film. And it certainly did not live up to the hype.

And I get the distinct feeling that part 2 is going to be more of the same.

John la Rock 06-23-2004 07:22 PM

I think Spiderman 2 is going to be much better than # 1. Like the comics and television shows Spiderman just gets better and better.

Although I agree that # 1 was a bit overrated

ColdwaVer 06-23-2004 09:09 PM

I dunno, it's only the second movie and they're already heaving the "Peter Parker: Spiderman no more" crap around.
They need to quit dicking around and get to Venom already.

Oh, yeah. That's what the average moviegoer wants to see.

"Hey, remember that regular, everyday New York kid who got super powers in the last movie. Well, this time, he's joining all the other superheroes in a war in outer space. Yeah, and he comes back with this alien symbiote that he thinks is just a cool costume. Then, he ditches it and it joins with one of Peter's enemies. He's cool! And he's CGI!"

Use Doc Ock, Electro, Rhino, and some of his earthly enemies for this one and the next. Then, maybe by the time SM4 or 5 comes around, people will be ready for Venom and Carnage.

samichna 06-23-2004 11:52 PM

Almost Famous

I had heard really good things about it, and just watched it for the first time a couple of months ago. I mean it's a decent flick, but nothing spectacular. :-\!

yianni 06-24-2004 02:43 AM

Blair Witch Project. Utter load of balls. :n:

Savio 06-24-2004 02:46 AM

Star wars episode 2.

Frank Grimes Jnr 06-24-2004 03:43 AM

Spiderman
Shrek
The Sixth Sense
Bruce Almighty

Guest #1 06-27-2004 07:18 PM

I would agree with Mulholland Drive, and I might get some flack for this, but I was a bit disappointed in Goodfellows, not that it was a bad film, but I'd saved it and there was so much hype and good reviews I figure I had it on a pedestal before I watched it, plus so many people were comparing it to Godfather, which I think is unreasonable and kind of unfair.

soconnor 06-27-2004 07:20 PM

Lost in Translation

Where's the fucking plot, at least American Beauty had a plastic bag to entertain

Champion of Europa 06-28-2004 07:19 PM

The Star Wars Movies. Every last one of them blew.

#1-norm-fan 06-28-2004 07:35 PM

I forgot about Scarface. May be the most over-rated movie I've ever seen. Apparently black people like it though since literally EVERY rapper who has ever been on that show Cribs flaunts their copy of it in the DVD collection.

blueskies 07-01-2004 06:41 AM

Underworld, Once Upon A Time In Mexico,

It's the idea that Tony Montana came from the gutter and "lived the American dream" and people who start in the gutter see Scarface and idolize the Tony Montana character because they relate to him.

Don't get me wrong, Pacino owned that movie, the way he did the character was brilliant...but the movie around him was "eh" minus the very last scene.
