Standing ovations in the theater?

What movies have you seen in the theater where the entire audience stood up and applauded at the end.

I can only remember it happening once and that was with 50 First Dates. The movie was quite good but :wtf:

Triple A 06-22-2004 04:23 AM

People started clapping at the end of Napoleon Dynamite. Not standing ovation, but an ovation.

Some other stuff too. I don't remember.

#1-norm-fan 06-22-2004 04:25 AM

I guess the term "standing ovation" isn't really what I mean...

The people are applauding the movie but also standing up to leave. Either way.

DegenerationY 06-22-2004 04:41 AM

Saving Private Ryan got a loud ovation after it was over.

Traffic too.

Shaggy 06-22-2004 09:14 AM

People stood and clapped for The Matrix reloaded and revolutions. It was sorta a mix stand and clap though because you had the people like me who were not that pleased.

but

When I saw The Mummy Returns and Spiderman everyone stood up and clapped at the end of it. Those had to be the big moments.

MrMeJW 06-22-2004 10:01 AM

Matrix Reloaded and Lord of the Rings: Two Towers

The Mask 06-22-2004 10:44 AM

fucking americans. who the fuck are you clapping to?

G 06-22-2004 10:45 AM

I've only seen a clap at the end of Spiderman.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-22-2004 11:22 AM

Freddy Vs Jason on opening day.... Yeah.

G 06-22-2004 11:25 AM

AareDub 06-22-2004 11:32 AM

All the LOTR movies and Spiderman. I don't understand it, people are fucking retarded. THEY CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

Hired Hitman 06-22-2004 12:43 PM

I've never actually clapped, but I have said things once a film is over, like "now that's a good movie", "great ending, can't wait for the next" etc.

Kane Knight 06-22-2004 01:42 PM

The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars movies. I think it's totally fucking stupid, but whatever.

The Miz 06-22-2004 02:56 PM

LOTR 1. The clapping was what woke me up. :'(

The Destroyer 06-22-2004 03:01 PM

Never. And if anyone ever did, I'd shoot them such a weird look...

Blue Demon 06-22-2004 03:06 PM

Bowling For Columbine people actually did have a standing ovation when I saw it

Boondock Saint 06-22-2004 03:42 PM

Star Wars Special Edition

Rob 06-22-2004 04:00 PM

Never seen that happen

Ogen 06-22-2004 04:03 PM

Thankfully never seen that happen must be an American thing like cowboy hats and XXXXL "pants"

MrMeJW 06-22-2004 06:38 PM

Star Wars? Lord of the Rings?

I blame the nerds!

Funky Fly 06-22-2004 07:35 PM

Never happened at any movie I went to see. :wtf:

And it IS fucking retarded.

The Mask 06-22-2004 07:41 PM

The only thing I've ever really seen of note is at the end of the pianist, first time I saw it. Everyone just sat there in silence til the end of the credits.

Ninti the Mad 06-22-2004 07:45 PM

LOTR

Tornado 06-22-2004 07:55 PM

Only "movie" i've ever seen get a standing ovation is the Terminator 2 3-D show at Universal Studios...kinda understandable as it's a great show, and the people who run it could hear the applause...

ilt_undertaker 06-22-2004 11:07 PM

Everyone in the theatre stood up and clapped at the end of Freddy V. Jason when they saw that Freddy was still alive.

FearedSanctity 06-23-2004 12:40 AM

Clapping for a movie is as retarded as talking/saying things to it. These people need to be slapped.

John la Rock 06-23-2004 01:03 AM

I've never seen an actual standing ovation but many people clapped after all 3 Lord of the RIngs, Spider-Man, Gladiator, and Troy for some stupid fucking reason

The Miz 06-23-2004 01:03 AM

Black people talk to movie screens

Kapoutman 06-23-2004 02:36 AM

I've never seen any movie get an ovation.

The Outlaw 06-23-2004 04:20 AM

What the fuck is this clapping shit?

Kid Robb 06-23-2004 08:05 AM

8 Mile on opening day

Genuinely because people were expecting Eminem not to be able to act.

Danny Electric 06-23-2004 08:07 AM

I've never seen someone clap in the cinema and like Destroyer if they did I'd give them a weird look.
I hate it when you get someone who has a really stuoid laugh and then everyone laughs and you can't hear the fucking film.

Here in Canada we don't applaud...even laughter isn't acceptable :shifty:. One time I was in Kentucky though and saw Independance Day and people applauded when it was over.

ColdwaVer 06-23-2004 02:56 PM

I'm Coldwaver, and I object to this message.

Well, at the beginning of Star Wars eps 1 & 2, and the whole LOTR trilogy, we all went nuts for the opening titles. Though this was probably because we had been waiting for hours in all cases.

You guys are the real backbone of Hollywood. Without you, nobody would ever see the movies. *bows down*

YOUR Hero 06-23-2004 11:36 PM

Quite a few movies, none I can remember off the top of my head right now.

yianni 06-24-2004 01:16 AM

Yeah it's happened to me once before but for the life of me I can't remember which movie it was where everyone did it. Might have been Titanic, can't remember cos it was back in the day. Recently though when I saw Kill Bill Vol. 2, everyone stayed in their seats through the whole credits roll at the end of the film. I'd never seen that before.
