Watched some CFL today
They were broadcasting the TSN coverage on NESN
Its football - reminded me how much I miss watching it. So whats the deal with it? Good teams? Players? I am guessing they are going to show it a lot more so I will start to follow it |
Announcers with Candian accents was really annoying tho
|
if you get the game tomorrow watch it, Winnipeg against Hamilton
|
I get enough football during the NFL season, I don't like how they try to shove NFL Europe, Arena Football, XFL, etc down our throats, because when it all comes down to it we don't want to see less than the best. We get the NFL, the best of the NCAA, the best of prep. Just like they wouldn't get away showing AAA baseball on TV, I wish they wouldn't show us NFL Europe. Arena is ok because its different, but honestly, you have to be a real hardcore fan of the game to watch that crap.

i would say the cfl is more passing oriented with more finnesse and flashier whearas the nfl is probably more of a power game. the BC lions will probably be a fun team to watch, same with alloutettes probably. not sure what other teams are expected to do well this year. nice to see a yank have an open mind towards the league. </font> |
passing game for sure. Only 3 downs and wider and longer field. Ottawa is 2-0 right now.
|
I saw Ottawa vs Toronto game on yesterday
So who are some of the "star" players |

It wasn't bad...if I knew more about the players/teams I am sure I would like it a lot better I don't know how often they are showing the games stuff though |
I've never been able to watch a CFL game.
I have watched Arena Football (apparently the bay area's team is in the championship game) and NFL Europe. While they're not the best quality, it's still entertaining as hell. If only I got CFL too :( I'm a friggin sports nut. |

The reason he probably caught the ball is cause the CFL has a no yards penalty, it works with the no fair catch rule. If a player on the opposing team is within 5 yards of a player when he catches a penalty he gets a 5 yard penalty so they'll usually always catch the ball on a punt. |
did you see any games when Sacramento had a team in the CFL DegenY?
|
Yea they said something about him trying to get a no yards penalty
Personally I think the fair catch rule is one of the best rules. I'm not a big fan of a 5 yard halo at all, it doesn't allow guys to sprit all out and try to hit somebody. I like how with the fair catch you know you are either going all out or you aren't. There is no grey area. Are most of the guys in the CFL American college football players or Candian? |
I think each team has to have atleast 8 canadians on the teams and the rest can be imports, mostly young guys who didn't get drafted in the NFL or couldn't make the NFL so they come up here to work on there game. Toronto has a reciever that was Jacksonvilles first round pick in 2001 I think it was.

A game was on again today...only saw like 1 play tho becuase I was just walking out the door
Hopefully they show more of them...Missing football big time right now :( |
I heard some channel in the states picked up the CFL and they're gonna show a bunch this year, one sec.. I'll find the article.

For New England, games can be seen each week on the New England Sports Network.

The Montreal Alouettes are no doubt taking this league by storm again. If the giants jesse palmer doesn't play in the NFL, the als have dibs on him. |
I am hearing that Palmer is actaully doing better then Kurt Warner right now
Warner is a bum |
The NFL and CFL have a deal now too. Actually they've had it for a few years. The CFL is like a minor league for the NFL. Not exactly sure how it works as I'm not real big on football the last few years.
|
Really?
I never heard anything likethat...I always figured NFL Europe was like the NFL's "minor league" since the most of the guys over there are under contract with NFL teams |
the agreement between the cfl that is when a player becomes a "restricted" free agent or goes into an option year on his contract they can go to the nfl and it's just too bad for the team. It got that way when the CFL was lacking money when smith was the Commish up here. So the NFL bailed the cfl gave them something like 25 million or something to get them back on there feet and basically made an agreement that certain teams in the CFL will never go bankrupt because the NFL will bail them out.
|
Seems like Cheebs knows more about it. Like I was saying, I'm still on a ":n:" trend with football.
Cycles like that with me. |
Makes sense. NFL probably figures if the CFL is going strong in Canada then Candians will show more intrest in the NFL aswell
|
yup, but I think it ends up working the wrong way for the CFL cause guys who are playing well up here sign with NFL teams and only end up being 2nd stringers down there so now that talent which is good in the CFL isn't being used at all and it almost brings the level of play in the CFL down. Of course it also lets other players step up but by the time they're up that high, they head to the NFL cause they can't make near as much money up here.
|
Either way though that would happen. Wether or not the NFL was involded with the CFL
