ESPN's 25 Best Sports Movies

They don't have a list on the website yet, but I just watched it. What do you guys think (if you've seen it).

IMO there are probably too many new movies in it, ie Bend it Like Beckham. Is Tin Cup more of a sports movie or a romance that just happens to be sports oriented...

Some key ones that I never would have thought of, but definately deserve it...Major League...

A few I didn't even know were sports movies? Finding Forrester, Searching for Bobby Fisher (Honestly, Chess isn't a sport, every one of these 25 count downs has a BS one like this).

The main one that I am dissapointed did not make the list was Prefontaine, that is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen (ok I'm biased, but still). That surprised me, really. It could be that there were two movies made about him, but one was clearly really good compared to the other one. Also, no Rocky movies made it, two other boxing ones did, but I think Rocky was a pretty cool movie.

I didnt see it but if Bull Durham wasn't #1 then the list is wrong

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-30-2004 03:07 AM

Rocky didn't make it?

toxic rooster 06-30-2004 03:23 AM

If you think that list is shitty, try looking that the ESPN world football (soccer) club top 25

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-30-2004 03:26 AM

Yea I would care about that list if I knew about world cup soccer

Loose Cannon 06-30-2004 11:00 AM

No Prefontaine. Well that's bullshit. That movie is top 10 with me.

The Miz 06-30-2004 05:06 PM

If any Kevin Costner baseball movie makes it it's crap

Loose Cannon 06-30-2004 05:31 PM

yeah, Field of Dreams was crap. ok

Bad Company 06-30-2004 06:20 PM

Was Caddyshack in it? Cause if it wasn't :nono:

And Prefontaine was good, but Without Limits was better I rekon.

If Bull Durham isn't in it, the list automatically has NO credibility

Loose Cannon 06-30-2004 07:05 PM

and Field of Dreams.

BCWWF 06-30-2004 07:06 PM

Bull Durham was in it, it was top five I think.

1. Hoosiers
2. Raging Bull

BCWWF 06-30-2004 07:07 PM

6. The Natural
Chariots of Fire

#1-norm-fan 06-30-2004 07:09 PM

Yeah Field of Dreams was great. I wouldn't blow off the list right away if it wasn't top 25 though.

Loose Cannon 06-30-2004 07:12 PM

Field of Dreams, Eight Men Out, Pride of the Yankees = Best Baseball movies ever. I hated The Natural and Bull Durham was alright. Notice a simiarity between my three movies though

The Miz 06-30-2004 07:33 PM

Field of Dreams was garbage.

Eight Men Out is the best baseball movie ever

AlphaBean 06-30-2004 07:56 PM

Was The Program up there?

BCWWF 06-30-2004 08:50 PM

I wasn't too fond of the Natural either, but I think thats mainly because it was so old, we watched it in school, and I didn't relate to it.

What was The Program about? It sounds familiar, like it was on the list, but im not sure without knowing what movie it is.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-30-2004 11:54 PM

The Program was areally cheesey movie about college football

I still love it though

KILL EM ALL AND LET THE PARAMEDICS SORT EM OUT

Also, I'll give it up for Hooisers...that movie is sick

The Outlaw 07-01-2004 03:03 AM

The Program = :y:

Kapoutman 07-01-2004 03:07 AM

It needs the original Slap Shot.

BCWWF 07-01-2004 11:32 AM

I totally forgot about this one, but I honestly think the Mighty Ducks could fit this category. I don't know about elsewhere, but if you live in Minnesota you love that movie.

The Miz 07-01-2004 01:12 PM

Did they seriously leave He Got Game off that list? There's only 2 or 3 on there Id say are as close to as good as that one

Rob 07-01-2004 04:41 PM

Isn't that list a couple of years old?

BCWWF 07-02-2004 03:04 AM

If by old you mean Tuesday, then yes.

Rob 07-02-2004 04:50 PM

They did a similar list a couple o years back. Bill Simmons wrote the best article I've evr seen asking why The Karate Kid wasn't in it.

The Icon of Elisim 07-03-2004 08:51 PM

Maybe you are thinking of the Sports Illustrated list?

Rob 07-04-2004 09:56 AM

Maybe I'm not. Bill Simmons works for ESPN and it was him and his co workers who picked the list.

loopydate 07-04-2004 02:01 PM

The reason Rocky and some others didn't make the list is it was a top 25 of the last 25 years. Hence all the "recent" movies.
