Yeah, the topic title speaks for itself. Remember, only one choice.

For me:

1986 World Series, Game 6 - Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets, Boston leading the series 3 games to 2

Bottom of the inning, 2 outs, 3-2 count, tie game at 5-5

Mookie Wilson up at the plate, Ray Knight on 2nd base, Bob Stanley pitching

Wilson hits a short grounder to first, should be an easy out for Boston 1st baseman Bill Buckner. But the ball goes through his legs and into right field, Knight charges home and the Mets win after the comeback of the century (Boston had the 5-3 lead going into the inning until the Mets rallied 2 outs into the inning).

A video of the play can be downloaded when you go to this site: http://www.rndng3rd.com/mets/seasons/1986.html

Sylvain Wiltord's title clincher goal for Arsenal in 2001/2002 sticks out as far as football goes.

As far as Aussie football goes, Jason Akermanis' goal in the 2002 Grand Final was a deadset ripper, and it's my favourite Aussie football memory.

lol. Anyway, mine is when Don Mattingly's first ever post season home run against the Seattle Mariners. The Stadium went ballistic and Mattingly had finally reached the playoffs for the first time in his career.

havlicek stole the ball

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-01-2004 02:21 AM

Fuck you Big Vito

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-01-2004 02:25 AM

Anyways, probably the end of the Patriots 1st Superbowl Victory

Just to think that gibson could barely walk to the plate and then hit a home run over the most dominant closer in baseball after looking silly the first few pitches still just amazes me.

BCWWF 07-01-2004 03:25 AM

For me personally it would be Kirby Puckett's "We'll see you tomorrow night" Home Run in the 1991 World Series

The Outlaw 07-01-2004 04:01 AM

Of course it would BCWWF. :)

First choice would be what The Miz said.

Bill Buckner LOL

Honorable mention would be Otis Nixon leaping onto the center field wall. I can't remember if it was a playoff or world series game, though. I was pretty young, and I remember being in awe.

Kapoutman 07-01-2004 04:10 AM

I'd go with the Canadian victory in the Olympic hockey tournament in 2002.

The Outlaw 07-01-2004 04:53 AM

Also DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES

Doink 07-01-2004 05:25 AM

Champions League Final 1999

Cactus Sid 07-01-2004 07:44 AM

Oh Wait

yianni 07-01-2004 08:33 AM

These are my favorite ones:

Aussie rules (when I was a big fan of it) - would have been Fraser Browne's tackle on Dean Wallis in the '99 Preliminary final where Carlton won by a point over a more dominant Essendon team.

Local football - 2 goals in 1 minute from South Melbourne (0-1 to 2-1) to beat Perth Glory about 4 years ago.

In international football, 2 favorite memories
1. Kevin Muscat's penalty for 1-0 against Uruguay in the 2001 World Cup Qualifier at the MCG and 90,000 people going nuts when he scored, with flares going off everywhere. Pity they beat us 3-0 in the return leg. :(

2. A recent one, Greece beating France 1-0.

Michael Vick OT Win against the Vikings

Braves actually winning the World Series in 1995

BCWWF 07-01-2004 12:30 PM

Lol, I remember that game, Michael Vick single handedly won the game. Its hard to stress it, but it was honestly a one man win.

91 07-01-2004 12:54 PM

Oh god, I could be here all day. In no specific order...

1. Allan Nielsens winner for Spurs in the 1999 league cup final. Totally innocuous match against Leicester, I was on the brink of dozing off it was so bad, then out nowhere in stoppage time all the Leicester players decide to fall over and the ball bounces of Nielsens head and rolls in and just like that, Spurs have actually won a trophy.

2. Nayim, from the halfway line. Comedic mirth at its best.

3. David Beckhams equaliser against Greece to get us in the World Cup. THANK F</>UCK!

4. Alfonsos winner for Spain against Yugoslavia. All great games need a last minute goal to be truly great and this was the perfect end to the greatest game of football I've ever seen.

5. Perhaps one of my all time favourites, and it's not football. 1992 German Grand Prix. Nigel Mansell leads on the last lap but is clearly experiencing problems. Ayrton Senna in second is closing and Ricardo Patrese in third is closing even faster and looks like he might catch and pass both men. Needing to get past Senna, he makes one final dive past him and in the process overdoes it and spins into the wall, practically handing Mansell the title. Mansell holds on meanwhile and Murray Walker almost wets himself.

Gonzo 07-01-2004 02:32 PM

Well there are plenty great sports moments, but I am going to say the one that was the best for me in my lifetime.

The Giants 41-0 shalacking of the Vikings in the NFC Championship game in 2000. Then we promptly got our asses handed to us in the Superbowl by those dirty Ravens.

LK 07-01-2004 02:51 PM

1) 1999 Champions League Final when Solskjaer scored the winner in the last minute.

2) Just recently at the end of the season when David Zdrilic scored the winner for Aberdeen against Celtic at Parkhead to end their unbeaten run in the league.

:'(

For me there's the Germany 1-5 England game, score speaks for itself , and Leicester's coca cola cup win against Boro seeing as we'd just come up, were tipped to go back down and to get a top half finish and win a cup final against Middlesbrough's squad of guys like Juninho (during his best spell) and Ravanelli was great, after Ravanelli's goal in extra time i was just originally happy when Heskey equalised.

Both of them are probably beaten by the 1993/94 play off final win, firstly because it was the first match i had ever been to, then to beat our rivals to get into the premiership having lost in the final for the 2 previous years was gold.

The 93 final against Swindon was a true classic though.

Wengerland 07-01-2004 03:11 PM

Yeah, can't really remember it that well, apart from the comeback and result. :(

the entire Boston College/Miami game with Flutie's hail mary

DaveWadding 07-02-2004 05:04 AM

I loved the OSU/Miami game in the Fiesta Bowl last year.

Jordan's shot over Ehlo in the 89 Finals.

Gar Heard's Moonshot in the 76 Western Conference finals.

Yeah. And you know what? If they win again on Sunday night I'll change it YET AGAIN.

Cactus Sid 07-02-2004 08:33 AM

Also, my ACTUAL favourite sporting moment was a tie between the 2001 Uefa Cup Final and the 2001 FA Cup Final.

.

:foc: i am not a scouser  :foc: what you have just out is the main reason i hate heskey as the fat fuck fell over and the ball rebounded off a roll of his fat and into the net in the last minute of extra time! GRRRRRRRRRRR!

:y: :) at england beating the scum 5 - 1 at their ground

DaveWadding 07-02-2004 12:40 PM

OH, Unit's perfect game and the Gonzalez bloop single that won the WS in 01 for me too.
